For Adult dogs, feed Sport Dog Food either dry or moistened with water. Begin with the recommendations provided above and adjust to maintain body weight. We recommend feeding your dog at least twice a day. The feeding chart above is the total amount of food we recommend for the day. Divide the total by the number of feedings you will provide your dog.

Reproduction: Provide increasing amounts of food the latter half of gestation. The amount may be twice the normal intake. Feed to consumption during lactation.

Growth: Introduce dry food around the 5th week.

Always provide a source of clean fresh water. Feeding amounts listed are based on an 8 oz. standard measuring cup.

Sport Dog Food is complete and nutritionally balanced for dogs of all breeds and life stages. Keep in mind though, that our recipes are formulated for active, sporting, and working dogs which means that our formulas are more calorie-dense than your typical kibble.

If your dog is not a sporting breed but is still highly active, Sport Dog Food can provide the higher calorie content he needs to fulfill his energy requirements. If your dog is a normally active or under active breed, you should be careful to avoid overfeeding.

When changing from your current food to a Sport Dog Food formula, slowly incorporate into your dog's diet over 10-14 days.  We encourage gradually reducing current food while increasing Sport Dog Food amounts.  The amounts suggested may vary according to age, weight, temperament, activity level, breed, and surroundings.

Also keep in mind that the feeding amounts of all Sport Dog Food formulas is typically less than the average dog food on the market as our kcals per cup can be 15-25% more.

Please pay close attention to your feeding amounts.  Compare the kcals per cup to your current formula and do not overfeed.  Accidentally overfeeding is a common cause of loose stool and eventually weight gain.  Most customers have reported they are feeding much LESS than their previous formula.

Even though your dog might be eating the same protein as your previous formula, they may still need more time to gradually get used to what is NOT in our formulas. Especially the elimination of Beet Pulp, Tomato Pomace, Flax Seed and lower grade proteins like Pork.

Do Not Overfeed. Accidentally overfeeding is a common cause of loose stool and eventually weight gain.

Be sure to keep fresh water available at all times.

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog’s diet, we recommend that it be done gradually over a 10-14 day period.

Instructions

Sport Dog Food is naturally preserved. Keep dry kibble in a dark, dry area protected from extreme temperature swings and away from direct sunlight, Be sure to keep out of extreme heat. It is best to keep in original bag. If you use a container to store your food, please remember to wash sidewalls of any residual oil before you refill. The wrong storage container could cause a greasy film to build up on the container’s sides that will go rancid, cause the food to be distasteful and hasten food spoilage of any new food you add to the container.

Truly Unique Dog Food

Sport Dog Food formulas are made without peas, lentils or flax to minimize the risk of allergies and inflammatory disease. Their recipes include carefully chosen ingredients that promote good heart health, strong immunity and regular digestion, so your dog can always be the best at what he does.

Dogs Try to Eat This Right Out of the Bag!

    By on

Our 2 & 9-1/2 year old German Shepherds eat this formula & love it! We've been feeding this food for about a year now & are very pleased with the results. My dogs aren't itchy, or gassy. Their coats are glistening & their stools are perfect. I switched them over to this from Victor.

    Not for us

    By on

Our dogs, Luke (Beagle) and Lela (Australian Cattle Dog mix), are both seven years old. They like this food fine, but Luke is having minor stomach issues with it, and it makes Lela gassy. Up to now, Lela has always been able (and happy) to eat anything with no problem. Luke is poultry-sensitive, and I'm picky about certain ingredients, so I was happy to find Sport Dog Food. They have a few recipes that meet our criteria, and the dogs have been fine on the others we've tried. This one, however, is no-go for us.

    Sport Dog Dock Dog

I like the nutritional profile of this food. I was looking for a grain inclusive, high protein kibble that had no peas or legumes and something besides chicken. My pup loves it!

    Jumping for joy when fed!

    By on

My Chinook dogs absolutely LOVE this food! I have not had to add something "special" to there food to get them to eat it. I recommend it to anyone who has a picky eater or wants to have a formula that's pea free. I have a breeding dog and she will be having puppies hopefully this year. I plan on using the Sportdog Cub formula with her and puppies.

Great pea & lentil free food

    By on

We had one of our dogs allergy tested and he was sensitive to lentils/legumes, corn, and venison. Plus the FDA warning about grain free dog food because of peas and lentils (not sure what’s developed with that now, we have been buying this food for months), so a lentil free food was the obvious choice to switch to. This one is great even though my one dog is not very active, he hasn’t gained any weight. I’m happy with these ingredients and my 2 picky and spoiled dogs will eat it. When dock dog is out of stock I buy herding dog, they’re very similar.

    great food

    By on

We found this food while searching for a grain-inclusive, high quality food that would suit our new golden puppy and two diabetic senior dogs. A local golden breeder recommended this food for the rare superior ingredients/formulation. Our dogs are super happy (including one with chronic digestive issues). My only complaint is that it keeps going out of stock. I spoke to the company and they basically said the Cub and Dock are very similar so we had no trouble (changing food is quite tough for insulin shot regulation so we were worried). However, now both formulas are out of stock and despite Chewy and the company being great to work with, we had to get an off-the-shelf replacement. If this shortage continues we won't be able to stick with SportDog simply due to the insulin/digestive issues, but otherwise it is A+. One couch potato dog is getting a little plump though despite the "off season" feeding schedule so we need to figure that out. Overall, I did a TON of research and this is hands-down the winner. … more

Didn’t work well for my dogs

    By on

I was excited to try this food because I was looking for a high-quality food that wasn’t grain-free and did not contain peas or lentils. This is the second variety of this brand I have tried. One of my Dobermans likes it fine. The other has to be coaxed to eat it sometimes. It has made both dogs gassy and given them very soft stool that is hard to pick up, which really makes things more difficult when we take our daily walks. I wanted to love it, but I think I’m going to have to try something else. It just doesn’t seem to agree with them.

    Switching from grain free

    By on

I was searching for a quality food to switch my dogs from the grain-free food they were eating. With all the news of issues with grain-free food and dogs, and discussing it with my veterinarian for about two months, I decided to make the switch. Amex this new food in 1/4 of a cup at a time. I have three pitbulls who gets a cup of food twice a day. It was an easy transition for them, I didn't have to go as slow as some would think. No digestive issues, no extra gas, and they get really excited about it. They seem to love the taste. Will definitely be purchasing again.

Huge hit with my Golden, I love the nutritional profile

    By on

If you go to the Sport Dog Food website, you can look up thd FULL nutritional profile, including vitamins, minerals and trace minerals for every formula. I am impressed with how transparent this company is with their formulations. I am happy to see manganese that is above minimum standards, since this trace mineral is crucial for ligament health. The explanation of the use of dried potato in the Elite 2.0 is also provided. I am thrilled to find high quality animal protein, no splitting of ingredients, a quality legume-free formula that my dog handles well.
