Not for use with aggressive dogs. Do not use this product if your dog is aggressive or if your dog is prone to aggressive behavior. Aggressive dogs can cause severe injury and even death to their owner and others. If you are unsure whether this product is appropriate for your dog, please consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer.
Proper fit of the collar is important. A collar worn for too long or made too tight on the dog’s neck may cause skin damage. This is called bed sores; it is also called decubitus ulcers or pressure necrosis.
- Avoid leaving the collar on the dog for more than 12 hours per day.
- When possible, reposition the collar on the dog’s neck every one to two hours.
- Check the fit to prevent excessive pressure; follow the instructions in this manual.
- Never connect a lead/leash, tags, or other items to the collar; it will cause excessive pressure on the Contact Points.
- When using a separate collar for a lead/leash and/or tags, don’t put pressure on the electronic collar.
- Before playing with your dog, remove the collar. The activity may cause your dog to bark, which could lead to him associating the play with the correction.
- Wash the dog’s neck area and the Contact Points of the collar weekly with a damp cloth. Turn the unit off before touching the Contact Points. Ensure the dog’s neck is thoroughly dry before replacing the collar.
- Examine the contact area daily for signs of a rash or a sore.
- If a rash or sore is found, discontinue use of the collar until the skin has healed.
- If the condition persists beyond 48 hours, see your veterinarian.
- You may need to trim the hair in the area of the Contact Points or switch to the longer Contact Points to ensure consistent contact. Never shave the dog’s neck; this may lead to a rash or infection.
- You should not make the collar any tighter than is required for good contact. A collar that is too tight will increase the risk of pressure necrosis in the contact area.
Training Tips
The SBC-R offers 10 levels of static stimulation, as well as 3 programmable modes: Temperament Learning, Progressive Correction, and User-Selected.
-
Temperament Learning Mode: The correction starts at the lowest level, and increases to the next level each time your dog barks within 30 seconds of the previous bark. The collar remembers the correction level needed to stop your dog’s barking. The next time your dog starts barking, the correction will start at the last/highest level used. The static stimulation level will be reduced by 30 seconds after your dog stops barking.
-
Progressive Correction Mode: The correction starts at the lowest level, and increases to the next level each time your dog barks within 30 seconds of the previous bark. If your dog doesn't bark again within 30 seconds, the correction will reset to the lowest level.
-
User-Selected Mode: You manually choose the correction level. If your dog barks, the collar will correct him at the level you’ve selected until he stops barking.
As a built-in safety feature, if your dog barks 15 times or more within an 80 second period, the SBC-R will stop issuing static stimulation for 30 seconds, and then resume normal operation.
Size | Neck Size | Collar Width | Recommended Pet Weight |
---|---|---|---|
One-Size | 5 - 22 inches | 3/4 inch | Over 8 lbs |
Will another dog’s bark set off the Bark Control Collar? No.
Is the Bark Control Collar safe and humane? Yes. The Bark Control Collar is designed to get your dog’s attention, not to punish him. However, the initial static stimulation may startle your dog.
Will the Bark Control Collar work for my dog? The Bark Control Collar is safe and effective for all breeds and sizes of dogs, though it may be too large for dogs under 8 lbs. to wear comfortably. The system should only be used with dogs who are over six months of age. If your dog is injured or its mobility is otherwise impaired, contact your veterinarian or professional trainer before use.
Is it possible for my dog to learn not to bark only when the Bark Control Collar is on? Yes. This is best accomplished by placing the Bark Control Collar on your dog only in situations where you never want him to bark, and never placing the Bark Control Collar on your dog in situations where you find it acceptable for him to bark.
I have more than one dog, but only one dog with a barking problem. Will it cause problems between the dogs if I keep them together? It should not be a problem, especially if you follow the procedures described in this Guide.
Is the Bark Control Collar waterproof? Yes. It is waterproof and submersible to 10 ft.
Can I attach a lead/leash to the Bark Control Collar? No. This can result in pulling the Contact Points too tightly against your dog’s neck. Attach a lead/leash to a separate, non-metallic collar, making sure the extra collar does not put pressure on the Contact Points.
Can I leave The Bark Control Collar on my dog all the time? No. Never leave the Bark Control Collar on for more than 12 consecutive hours.
What do I do if my dog’s neck becomes red and irritated? This condition is due to the Contact Points irritating the skin. Discontinue use of the Bark Control Collar for a few days. If the condition persists beyond 48 hours, see your veterinarian. Once the skin returns to normal, resume use, and monitor the skin condition closely.

Works pretty well!
By AmberB on Dec 25, 2020
We bought this collar to assist with training our beagle/boxer mix pup to stop barking. By nature, she's a barker, and that beagle bark can be ear piercing. She was barking at everything and often kept us up at night while in her kennel. Since we've gotten this collar, it's been a life saver! No more loud barking. After a few shocks when she initially wore it, she modified her behavior. If she has it on, it doesn't even have to be turned on now. She knows. We also use it for our chihuahua mix when needed, and it works well on him, too. Again, if he's wearing it, we don't even have to have it on. We are ordering a larger size for our husky/German shepherd mix as when he goes outside We bought this collar to assist with training our beagle/boxer mix pup to stop barking. We are ordering a larger size for our husky/German shepherd mix as when he goes outside he likes to bark at our neighbors, so I think this will be a great tool for him as well. There is one downside. My beagle/boxer mix has learned how to 'get around' being shocked in the middle of the night when we do leave it on. She won't bark. But she will do these high pitch squeals to get our attention, and her throat doesn't vibrate when she does that - so she doesn't get shocked. She's too smart for her own good. … more

Ineffective
By Bummed on Jan 10, 2021
We had such high hopes for these collars for our 5 year old male Yellow Lab & 5 year old female German Shephard. They weren't a deterrent more than the initial surprise of the static delivery. We tried all levels at different times, both sets of prongs, and even just let it ride for a while but no barrier. We even resorted to leaving on the manual level of 10 and the barrage of barking never desisted. We gave it a try for 3 weeks with no positive results. Time to return.

Not Effective
By Lindsey on Dec 16, 2020
I have a little, ornery Pomeranian and I got this collar to keep him from barking throughout the day and driving my neighbors crazy. Yes, he has some fluff, but I clear away the fur from his neck and make sure the probes are making contact with his skin. Well, he barks. And barks. And barks. I have tried all the different settings and not one of them has prevented him from barking. Yes, it is turned on. Yes, it is charged. Yes, I’ve checked to make sure it hasn’t loosened too much or become too tight. It just doesn’t seem to work. I’m disappointed, my girlfriend is disappointed, and I guarantee my neighbors are disappointed. Still. no more barks
By krook on Dec 3, 2020 Top 1000 Contributor
We do not use this daily. Our bully mix only really barks when he is in a new place and unsure of his surroundings (at cabin up north or other vacations that we take the dogs with). We expect a bark or two, but being a bully breed, he can get hyper focused on something and it is nearly impossible to regain attention. We ONLY have it on him when he is outside and not playing with another dog. He is a vocal player and I don’t want to punish him for playing. I set this on the manual lowest setting and it does the trick. It stops him from getting hyper focused and bring him back to me.

Completely ineffective
By Amber on Jan 13, 2021
I bought 2 of these at once for my 2 dogs because I have a 4 month old who they wake up constantly with their barking. It's like they're not even wearing a collar at all. They bark right through it. Must feel like a tickle to them. Will be returning both. Please save your money.

Does not work
By Milo on Dec 11, 2020
I tried two of these. The first one did not work. My dog barked right though it. They sent a second one and did not work too. He barked right though it. I called the company that made the collar.. They told me how to check if it was working. Still did not work. Do not buy.

not worth it
By lili on Dec 4, 2020
Bought due to the many positive reviews. But it doesn’t affect my golden. He barks right thru it. Pretty pricy to not work even with the levels upped. I thought maybe his long fur was in way, so I shave him down. Still doesn’t worm.

Unreliable After Less Than 1 Month
By SquibblyDibbs3 on Sep 20, 2020 Top 250 Contributor
First of all, the “charger” is a plastic clip that you awkwardly clip onto the center of the interior of the Collar, between the prongs. It will be just a matter of time before that breaks/ wears out. I have used MANY diferent Bark Collars, and this is the most inconvenient charging system, kind of a hassle.. I love that this collar is waterproof (why wouldn’t it be?), and has a selection of many levels. The collar band is very long, appears durable.. About Preformance: This collar started out well, whenever I used it (on level 1 for my 88 lb dog), it kept him from barking incessantly while out in back yard. I charged it and used it according to the directions, however, it began to malfunction within less than a month! I thought it was, perhaps, the low level I started out using, but no...even with the level upped, it just stopped working. My dog barks at everything, leaves, birds, neighborhood noises...and he is surely NOT gaining any favor with my neighbors. What a HUGE waste of money ($100.). This collar needs to be REDESIGNED and FIXED. No, I cannot recommend this bark collar!! DO NOT BUY! … more

It does not work
By Otis on Sep 28, 2020
We have used several bark collars which you need to use a remote and I was excited about this one since it was automatic. BUT it doesnt work. It does nothing and my dog barks right through the collar no matter what setting you use. I do not recommend. If you are looking for a training collar then the Mini Educator is the best, but it is not automatic, you need to use a remote to stimulate the dog.
