Description

The YardTrainer 350 combines the simplicity of a basic e-collar training system with the versatility and ruggedness of a more advanced sporting dog trainer. With up to 300 yards of range, the compact SD-350 is more than adequate for basic training while also giving you the confidence to fix control problems at a distance. The transmitter allows instant correction-level adjustments – eight levels in both continuous and momentary modes – while a tone feature allows constant communication. The SD-350 is a true all-weather system, with a completely waterproof transmitter and collar receiver that feature SportDOG Brand’s exclusive DryTek technology. Long-life NiMH rechargeable batteries are convenient and provide up to 40 hours of use between charges, and a low-battery indicator ensures you’re never left with a dead e-collar or transmitter.

Instructions

Not for use with aggressive dogs. Do not use this product if your dog is aggressive, or if your dog is prone to aggressive behavior. Aggressive dogs can cause severe injury and even death to their owner and others. If you are unsure whether this product is appropriate for your dog, please consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer.

Proper fit of the collar is important. A collar worn for too long, or made too tight on the dog’s neck may cause skin damage. This is called bed sores; it is also called decubitus ulcers or pressure necrosis.

  • Avoid leaving the collar on the dog for more than 12 hours per day.
  • When possible, reposition the collar on the dog’s neck every 1 to 2 hours.
  • Check the fit to prevent excessive pressure; follow the instructions in this manual.
  • Never connect a lead/leash to the electronic collar; it will cause excessive pressure on the contacts.
  • When using a separate collar for a lead/leash, don’t put pressure on the electronic collar.
  • Wash the dog’s neck area and the contacts of the collar weekly with a damp cloth.
  • Examine the contact area daily for signs of a rash or a sore.
  • You may need to trim the hair in the area of the Contact Points or switch to the longer Contact Points to ensure consistent contact. Never shave the dog’s neck; this may lead to a rash or infection.
  • You should not make the collar any tighter than is required for good contact. A collar that is too tight will increase the risk of pressure necrosis in the contact area.
  • If a rash or sore is found, discontinue use of the collar until the skin has healed.
  • If the condition persists beyond 48 hours, see your veterinarian.

Battery Maintenance

When storing the unit for long periods, remember to regularly give the battery a full charge (12 hours). This should be done once every 4 to 6 weeks.

To maximize battery life, after initial charge, it is not recommended to leave the battery plugged in for more than 12 hours. If your equipment has not been charged for an extended period, you may experience a decrease in battery life the first few uses. Afterwards, the battery life will return to previous capacity levels.

You should expect hundreds of recharge cycles from your battery. However, all rechargeable batteries lose capacity over time relative to the number of recharge cycles they experience. This is normal. The battery should last for a period of 3-5 years.

Troubleshooting

My dog is not responding when I press a button.

  • Check to see if the Collar Receiver has been turned on and the Indicator Light is flashing.
  • If your range has reduced from the first time you have used it, please check to see if the battery is low in either the Remote Transmitter or Collar Receiver.
  • Many factors can impact the range you have with the YardTrainer 350. For a list of these factors, please refer to “How the System Works.”
  • You can verify the Collar Receiver is delivering static stimulation to your dog by placing the test light, enclosed in your kit, on the Collar Receiver. Please refer to the “Test Light Instructions” section for details.
  • Increase the Intensity Dial. Refer to “Find the Best Intensity Level for Your Dog” for more information.
  • Make sure the Collar Receiver’s Contact Points are placed snugly against your dog’s skin. Refer to “Fit the Collar Receiver” for more information.
  • You may need to switch to the longer Contact Points included with \ your system or trim the hair beneath the Contact Points.
  • If you notice your operating time dropping to about half the original time, your Collar Receiver battery needs to be replaced.

The Collar Receiver will not turn on.

Make sure the Collar Receiver has been charged. For the initial charge, be sure to charge it for 24 hours. Future charges only take 12 hours.

The Collar Receiver is not responding to the Remote Transmitter.

  • Make sure the Remote Transmitter has been charged. For the initial charge, be sure to charge it for 24 hours. Future charges only take 12 hours.
  • Verify the Collar Receiver has been turned on and the Indicator Light is flashing. Refer to “Turning the Collar Receiver On and Off.”
  • Refer to “Match the Collar Receiver and Remote Transmitter.”
FAQ

Is the static stimulation safe for my dog? While Continuous and/or Momentary static stimulation may be unpleasant, it is harmless to your dog. Electronic training devices require interaction and training from the owner to achieve desired results.

How old does a dog have to be before using the YardTrainer 350? Your dog should be able to learn basic obedience commands such as “Sit” or “Stay.” The Collar Receiver may be too large for dogs under 8 pounds.

Once my dog is trained and has been obeying my commands, will my dog have to continue to wear the Collar Receiver? Your dog may need to wear the Collar Receiver from time to time for reinforcement. Also, many hunters keep the Collar Receiver on their dogs while hunting for maximum control.

Is the Collar Receiver waterproof? Yes. If the rechargeable battery pack ever needs to be replaced, make sure the o-ring and o-ring groove are free from dirt and debris.

Can my Collar Receiver be used around salt water? Yes. However, if the Collar Receiver is used in or around salt water, it should be rinsed with fresh water following each use. Prior to rinsing, the rubber Charging Jack cover should be removed from the power plug socket and left out until the Collar Receiver has air dried.

Can I use the YardTrainer 350 with more than one dog? No. The YardTrainer 350 is a one-dog only system.

Can I use the YardTrainer 350 on aggressive dogs? We do not recommend any of our products to be used on aggressive dogs. We recommend you contact your local veterinarian or professional trainer to determine if your dog might be aggressive.

Will I get exactly 300 yards of range with the YardTrainer 350? The range you get with your YardTrainer 350 will vary according to terrain, weather, and vegetation as well as transmission from other radio devices. To get the maximum amount of range, please refer to the “How the System Works” section of this guide.

How long can I continuously deliver static stimulation to my dog? The maximum amount of time you can press the Continuous Static Stimulation Button and deliver static stimulation to your dog continuously is 9 seconds. After 9 seconds, the Remote Transmitter will “time-out”. The Continuous Static Stimulation Button must be released and pressed again.

What do I do if my dog’s neck becomes red and irritated? This condition is due to the Contact Points irritating the skin. Discontinue use of the Collar Receiver for a few days. If the condition persists beyond 48 hours, see your veterinarian. Once the skin returns to normal, resume use, and monitor the skin condition closely.

The Intensity Dial seems difficult to rotate. Is this normal? Yes. This prevents accidental changes in intensity and encourages an optimal waterproof seal. The knob will “break in” and be slightly easier to turn as you use it.

Can I attach a leash to the YardTrainer 350? DO NOT attach a leash to the YardTrainer 350. You may put a separate non-metallic collar on your dog’s neck and attach a leash. Be sure the extra collar does not interfere with the Contact Points.

Can I program my YardTrainer 350 to work with my other SportDOG Brand systems? No. The YardTrainer 350 is not compatible with any other SportDOG Brand systems.

    A problem solution

    By on

We have used this Sport Dog Training Collar for approximately one week. Our Yellow Lab just turned 7 months and was a real handful. She was either sleeping or going 150 MPH. No amount of "training" seemed to stick beyond learning to "sit" and walk on a leash. She would ignore being called and barked a lot for nothing. With the collar, she has calmed down quite a bit. We have only "zapped" her a couple of times. When she hears the beep, she immediately stops barking, jumping on people, barking at nothing or ignoring our calls to her. She is a loving dog that is "hyper" and the collar has helped to control that hyper activity.

This collar has been the perfect addition to rewarding good behaviors with training treats. My 5 month old German Shepherd very obedient in two weeks with very minimal correction needed. We are now ready and excited to start boundary training her around the perimeter of our property and we’re positively sure she’ll do very well.

Training our dog to stay in yard

    By on

We have a rescue Labrador about 13 months old. She jumps our fence and doesn’t like to come home when called. We have used this three times and our stubborn little girl is learning to come home when she is called and is also learning to stay on our ground. We know this will help prevent her from running out in the street and getting run over.

We loved that the sound alone corrects most behavior but in 1 case we used stimulus on 1 and it stopped the digging.we can now walk off leash.

Works great on my bull dog. Less buttons are easier to use. The lanyard is also nice.

love this Sport Dog yard trainer!

I was lucky to get my fist one as a gift from my Boss. I have had to replace the plug in charger because of a broken wire (be careful how you store it. don't wind tight and toss in basket). Eight years later the battery in the controller had to be replace. so I just bought a new one! love the product!

Never thought I would buy one.

I always thought they were a cruel way to train. I got a new dog that is a bully. He is not mean just likes to be pushy. He had all the other dogs afraid to run and play. This collar is fantastic. I kept the volume down and always let him hear me turn it on. In 3 days he is a changed dog. Super, super great buy.
