Wonderful food as long as it's rehydrated

    By on

I have the Absolutely Rabbit, Chick-Chick-Chicken, and Duck-Duck-Goose freeze-dried raw cat foods. I combine a couple pieces of all three kinds together, breaking the dry pieces apart, and rehydrating before feeding. My cat gobbles it up and he seems healthier and his coat is shiny. Personally, I do not recommend feeding this food dry as it truly absorbs a lot of water and my cat, quite simply, doesn't drink enough water on his own. I saw dehydration problems in my cat when I just tried adding this food dry to other food.

    Amazing results

    By on

This catfood is amazing. I have a 16 year old cat that had pretty much given up eating. I'd been supplementing with the tube nutrition because he refused to eat anything but cat treats. He'd lost so much weight I was afraid he would starve himself to death...after trying tons of different foods, I read about this food on a blog and figured I'd try it too. It worked, he loves it! He's gaining weight and begs for this food everytime I go near the kitchen. I'm so glad I found this, it has saved Kimba's life.

Finally a Rabbit Meat Food Our Cats Like!

    By on

One of our senior kitties has pancreatitis and we'd just about given up trying to find a high quality different protein, like rabbit, that he would eat. We discovered that he would only eat it dry and now our other two cats are eating it too! The kitty with pancreatitis is feeling better much to our relief.

A BIG hit with the kitties

    By on

We have 4 indoor, 2 year old cats and they all seem to enjoy this food. I rehydrate the nuggets so they are moist but one cat likes the dry nuggets as a treat. The food is easy to store, doesn't smell like the wet, canned food, and can be left in the bag (it's resealable!).

    Good, but pricey

    By on

My cat with allergies has been only eating rabbit as a protein for years. The vet had put him on a prescription diet wet food. He happily ate it for several years and then all of the sudden he refused to eat another bite. Desperate to find a food that did not have chicken or fish, I tried all the different rabbit based LID foods I could find. He didn't like any of them. Then I came across the Stella and Chewy and decided it couldn't hurt to try. He loves it. I do rehydrate which is kind of a pain to mash up the food, but it's worth the effor to get more water in his diet.

    Bad batch or new recipe?

    By on

My cat normally loves this food. She has IBD and it's one of few foods she can tolerate. But the last bag that I ordered is off. It smells funny and looks lighter in color. The morsels are less uniform in size and shape too. Some morsels are very misshapen. My cat won't touch it. The bag was vacuum sealed and the expiration date is good, so either something went wrong when making the batch or they changed the recipe. It's too bad because my cat has limited food choices and she's also a very picky eater. I really hope they didn't change anything and it's just this last bag.

Better for straight feeding vs. re-hydrating

    By on

I have a cat with IBD and allergies. Finding food for her is both tricky and expensive. Luckily, 100% rabbit works for her. In addition to canned rabbit (Instinct Limited Ingredient) I wanted to give her some variety. The kibble version of the Instinct rabbit did not work, so I tried the dehydrated route. She loves these morsels and it works for her! I use it as treats and as a "side" for her canned meals. (Side note: my 2nd cat likes it too!). The size and density of the "morsels" makes it too hard to crumble in order to re-hydrate, but luckily my cats actually prefer "as is."

    Great topper- loved by all!

    By on

I use these as a topper or treat for both cats and dogs. No one turns them down. Haven’t used them as a meal because that would be an expensive way to feed. I have one cat on a limited ingredient rabbit diet and doesn’t have any issues with these.

Picky cat was not a fan.

    By on

I have the worlds pickiest foster kitty at the moment. This is the only brand and type of food she will eat. She loved the chicken and the duck. But wouldn’t even try the rabbit. She just smelled it and walked off.

    Bad batches and quality control

    By on

I called Stella & Chewy they claim that inconsistency happens from different sources but they should work this out. They had some that were hard to rehydrate and some that smelled like poop. When the batch is good its easy to rehydrate and smells a little gamey but not like death and poop.
