Serve as is or rehydrate by adding cool or warm water. If your dog does not drink plenty of water at mealtime, we recommend rehydrating. To rehydrate, crumble and add 1/4 cup of water for every two patties. When feeding dry, always make sure your dog drinks ample fresh water at mealtime.

- Days 1 - 3 : 25% Stella & Chewy's + 75% previous diet

How do I begin introducing a raw diet to my pet?
Congratulations on your decision to make the switch! When transitioning from a cooked food such as kibble, you should go slowly, typically transitioning over 7-10 days. Most people start with the following guideline and then adjust the timeframe as needed:
- Days 1-3: 25% Stella & Chewy's along with 75% current diet
- Days 4-6: 50% Stella & Chewy' along with 50% current diet
- Days 7-9: 75% Stella & Chewy's along with 25% current diet
- Days 10-Forward: 100% Stella & Chewy's
It's important to remember that some digestive upset is normal during a transition this typically shows up in diarrhea, constipation or (very rarely) vomiting. This will eventually subside as your pet adjusts to the new food.
Is Stella & Chewy's appropriate for puppies?
Yes! Stella & Chewy's dinners for dogs are designed to be complete and balanced for all life stages this means they're great for puppies, too! They do meet AAFCO standards for complete and balanced nutrition across all life stages. You will, however, want to introduce them slowly a typical transition takes about 7-10 days. Puppies do need more food than adults at the same weight. Feed up to twice the amount recommended on feeding guidelines. We also offer a puppy-specific lineup of Freeze-Dried Dinner Patties!
Where are Stella & Chewy's ingredients sourced?
All Stella & Chewy's ingredients are responsibly sourced from farmers and ranchers we know and trust.
- The meats, poultry, fish are antibiotic-free and have no added hormones.
- Beef, Lamb and Venison are sourced from North America, Australia and New Zealand. They are grass-fed.
- Chicken, Duck, Goose and Turkey are sourced from North America and Europe. They're cage-free.
- The fish is North American, wild-caught.
- The rabbit is from Western Europe and/or North America.
- All fruits and vegetables are 100% organic. They are all sourced from North and South America based on seasonal availability.
- The vitamin and mineral mix we use our products is formulated for us in the United States the individual components are from the US and Western Europe with Taurine from Japan.
What are the sharp things I'm finding in the freeze-dried foods? Aren't they harmful?
Stella & Chewy's adds raw ground bone to all dinners as it's an essential part of a raw diet. The bone is safe and highly digestible when raw. The bone is ground with a 3/16 grind plate this means the bone could appear up to approximately 1/4-in size. The bone in the diet is ground to that size because of the health benefits it provides. A carnivore's teeth and body are designed to consume bone especially raw bone, like the bone used in each S&C meal. If it's ground to a powder, it doesn't have as many of the benefits. While it may feel sharper to our fingers, a carnivore's body is designed to consume and process the bone effectively and safely, as long as it's never cooked, heated, or microwaved.
What food safety procedures does Stella & Chewy's follow?
Stella & Chewy's has a patented food safety procedure to ensure the safety of every product. The most powerful step in this procedure is the high-pressure processing (HPP) step this is a cold-water pressure process that effectively eliminates harmful bacteria from the food. This process is used on all products, regardless of the protein. As food-borne bacteria can be present in any type of meat, Stella & Chewy's feel that incurring the extra cost of HPP for all products is the responsible thing to do. This way pet parents can rest assured that they're always bring a safe food into their home. Additionally, HPP is the only reliable method for maintaining the wonderful raw nutrition of our products while still removing harmful pathogens.
All batches of food are sent to a 3rd party testing facility to be tested for both Salmonella and E.coli and Listeria no food ever leaves the plant without negative test results in hand. These test results are posted on stellaandchewys.com. Stella & Chewy's is highly committed to creating the most nutritious, safe, and delicious product on the market.
How do you prepare Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried foods for dogs?
Freeze-dried Dinners and Mixers for dogs can be fed dry or rehydrated prior to feeding. If you choose to use the products dry, please be sure your pet is drinking plenty of water at mealtime. If your pet isn't a big drinker, or you're afraid that they may not get enough water, then rehydrate the food with cool or warm (never hot) water prior to feeding. If fed dry, the food can sit out for up to 12 hours prior to discarding. If fed rehydrated, the food can sit out for up to 2 hours.
Can I feed my pet more than one flavor of Stella & Chewy's?
We do suggest rotating proteins every 2-6 weeks. This means you would feed one flavor consistently for 2-6 weeks, then switch to another flavor for 2-6 weeks, etc. This is a great way to give your dog variety and to help keep protein-based allergies at bay.
Can the Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried foods be cooked or heated?
Stella & Chewy's products cannot be cooked, heated or microwaved. Doing so removes much of the nutrition. Additionally, we add raw, ground bone to our products as it's an essential part of a raw diet. Raw bone is incredibly safe however when bone cooks, it can become brittle and can splinter. Cooked bone is never safe for animals.
What is the shelf life on Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried products?
Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried foods have an expiration date of 18 months past the date of production. It is suggested to use our products by this date, or within a few days after. Much past that and we would recommend discarding the bag. Freezing or refrigerating would not extend the listed shelf life.
How many patties or scoops are in each bag of Stella & Chewy's?
All of Stella & Chewy's products are packaged by weight, not by patty count - this means that the number of patties per bag can vary somewhat.
Are the cat and dog products the same and can they be used interchangeably?
It's a question we hear a lot and we always suggest using the Stella & Chewy's product that was designed specifically for your cat or dog. Our dinners for dogs are not harmful to a cat, but they don't offer the balanced nutritional requirements of a cat either. You could occasionally offer the dog food to your cat, but wouldn't you prefer to give them the nutrients their furry little bodies need?
Do I need to give my pet any supplements in addition to the Stella & Chewy's dinners?
Nope! Zip, zilch, nada. Stella & Chewy's dinners for dogs and cats are designed to be complete and balanced. As long as you're using the product appropriate for its species, our dinners don't require additional supplements.
Why do the patties sometimes look, smell or feel different?
Just like the food we eat; everything isn't always identical. Our products are made in small batches using natural ingredients. And while there's never any change in the formula or the ingredients we use, you may occasionally see lot variations between batches. The differences are safe and normal in a natural product like ours.
Is Stella & Chewy's suitable for diabetic cats or dogs?
Many pet parents have told us that their animals thrive on a raw diet because of the low carbohydrate content. But every animal is different, so we recommend consulting with your veterinarian to determine what is best suited for your pet.

All the Benefits of
Raw Nutrition
Stella & Chewy's Freeze-Dried Raw Dinner Patties offer the easiest solution for pet parents to introduce raw food to their dog's mealtime routine. If you don't have time to prepare fresh raw foods or to wait for frozen food to thaw, freeze-dried is the best answer. With Stella & Chewy's Dinner Patties, your pup will enjoy a feast of meat, organ and bones just like his wild ancestors. And to meet all of your dog's nutritional needs, they're formulated with added vitamins and minerals, probiotics and antioxidants.
The Prey Model Diet
It's only natural that your dog craves real meat—his body is designed to eat a diet that relies heavily on it. Stella & Chewy's makes it easy to feed your domesticated canine friend this prey model diet. Each recipe has 90-95% meat, nutrient-rich organs and bone, and there are no added hormones or antibiotics. You can serve it as is, or crumble and rehydrate the patties. In just a matter of minutes, you'll have a wholesome, protein-rich dinner for your hungry pooch.
Raw Feeding Helps:

Minimal Processing,
Maximum Flavor
Heavy processing of ingredients can diminish the nutritional value. But with freeze-dried, the end product still retains its beneficial nutrients. Frozen raw patties go into a freeze-dryer to remove moisture without ever applying heat or letting them thaw. So they come out with all the flavor, vitamins, minerals, omegas and amino acids they went in with. Plus, you'll never have to keep it in the freezer or defrost it.

Innovative Food
Safety Technology
Food safety is always a concern, especially with raw foods. Stella & Chewy's takes every precaution with their SecureByNature food safety process that's recognized by the USDA and FDA. The ingredients undergo a special, 100% natural cold-press process that creates water pressure similar to that found near the ocean's floor. No harmful bacteria can survive, and there's no heat to damage nutrients and diminish flavor. Each batch is tested by an independent lab, and the results are even posted online for you to see.
Ethically Sourced Ingredients
Stella & Chewy's sources everything that goes into your pet's food from reputable suppliers that guarantee the integrity of the ingredients. Meat, poultry and fish are responsibly sourced from all over the world. The wholesome fruit and vegetables are certified organic, and nothing comes from China.

Everyday Rewards
At only three calories per delicious bite, Carnivore Crunch is the ideal take-along snack. No dog will turn his nose up at these freeze-dried treats that deliver 98% raw meat, fish or poultry along with nutrient-rich organs and ground bone. They're full of 40-52% protein with cage-free turkey, chicken and duck; wild-caught salmon and cod; and grass-fed beef. Pumpkin seeds are added for even more protein and a little fiber.

About Stella & Chewy's
The story of Stella & Chewy's starts with two lucky rescue dogs named Stella and Chewy—and Chewy was a pretty sick pup. Their new pet parent, Marie Moody, started both of her new family members on a raw diet, and she watched them thrive. Eager to bring the same amazing prey model diet to other pets, Marie soon developed innovative food safety measures to create her own version of raw pet food—the Stella & Chewy's frozen and freeze-dried dinners and mixers that you know and love.

Run rabbit
By Vsh1 on Feb 15, 2021
The quality of the Stella and Chewy's product continues - and our 3 rescues enjoy and love this product. Changing to this type of diet has meant a much better handle on allergies and any tummy upsets (which have not occurred since changing to a raw/freeze-air dried diet)

They love it!

My dogs literally sit and wait for me to make this when I add it to their food. I have to make them slow down when they are eating it.

Great for dogs with protein allergies!
By Food on Oct 16, 2020
My pug is allergic to beef and chicken and possibly turkey and pork. I am so happy to see stella and chewy’s makes freeze-dried rabbit! We tend to break the patty up into treat size pieces and give her a bit every day when we are giving our other dogs beef and chicken treats.

So disappointed
By JAH1 on Oct 13, 2020
I have always found Chewy to have the freshest bags of Absolutely Rabbit dinner patties available anywhere! Unfortunately, the last few 14 oz bags I have received have just gotten harder and harder. I was thinking of changing over to either the venison or the duck, but after reading the reviews of others, this seems to be a Stella and Chewy's staleness issue. My dog is on a limited ingredient diet and Stella and Chewy's has always worked well for him. I am not sure what I am going to do now.

Only brand I will feed
By Mrsesp1 on Aug 10, 2020
My miniature schnauzer had been on so many diets as she is prone to pancreatitis. My vet said get her a bubbling water fountain as it will encourage her to drink more water and switch her to soft food. I wanted to make sure she would be getting all her nutrients so I bought a dog food cookbook and made her food for a while. I felt overwhelmed with that and my busy schedule so I needed to find an easier good option. After speaking with a holistic vet, a animal nutritionist and several other dog owners I was told switch to a raw diet. I couldn’t deal with all that so it was recommended we try Stella and. Chewy. Pepper was about 7-8 years old and was showing signs of aging. I was closely monitoring My miniature schnauzer had been on so many diets as she is prone to pancreatitis. The vet said whatever we are doing to keep it up as she is very impressed. I do give the occasional treats like green beans or blueberries etc. and we rotate proteins so she doesn’t get bored with a certain flavour but we will never feed anything else.Pricey yes maybe so but no more episodes of pancreatitis. You can feed quality and have a healthy, happy dog or feed lower quality and pay your vet more than necessary. … more

Finally No Skin Issues
By GracePhillips on Aug 15, 2020
I have a German Shepherd Dog, her name is Lexi, she is 6 years old and has had skin issues for her whole life! My husband and I have spent an enormous amount on Vet visits, Veterinarian Allergist, drugs, injections, and hundreds of different dog food brands. Cytopoint Injections were helpful but not 100%. My last straw was a Prescription Diet Royal Canin Skin Support, also slightly helpful, still with a red tummy and itchy skin. I have done hours of research on Skin Allergies and with Rabbit as a Novel Protein and loaded with Probiotics, I decided to try Stella and Chewy’s Absolutely Rabbit! Also feeding Royal Canin . Really Hard
By Jenyne on Aug 28, 2020
This is 1 of the first Stella & Chewys I’ve ever gotten that the whole bag was completely hard patty’s. I’ve had 1 or 2 patty’s in other bags hard before but this the entire bag was hard. I’m guessing it was supposed to be like that but I was afraid my Frenchie would choke on the hard patty’s.

Formula Change?
By Saydee on Aug 8, 2020
Have been giving this food to my Pup for over a year and it's been her #1 favorite, the food has been 5 stars, chewy.com has also been 5 stars! The last bag of rabbit patties we received were NOT the usual a soft and flakey patty like all the typical Stella and Chewy Patties, this batch has patties that are as hard as bricks.. Chewy.com is awesome, they immediately sent me a replacement, but when it arrived the patties were the same (hard as rocks). I feel bad about asking Chewy.com for refunds, so I emailed Stella and Chewy pet food company (they responded), and apparently they have made changes to the food to make the patties more solid so that they would not break so easily in the bag.
