About Stella and Chewy’s

In 1997, Marie Moody adopted a dog named Stella from a local animal shelter. She soon decided that Stella needed a companion and adopted a sick pup named Chewy, who joined the family and helped forge the company’s history. On the advice of a veterinarian, Marie began feeding Chewy a raw diet to help with his health issues. He quickly recovered, and both he and Stella thrived on their new food. The experience led Marie to pursue her passion for pet nutrition and start her own business—Stella & Chewy’s.

Is the similar to feeding raw without the mess?
Answer by ChewyFeb 01, 2018
Frozen ingredients are placed in a vacuum chamber where temperatures remain below freezing. Pressure and temperatures will change during the process causing the moisture (ice crystals) to vaporize rather than evaporate. This particular process will prevent the moisture from turning into a liquid before it's removed. Freeze dried diets are the closest to a raw diet and don't require to be rehydrated but they can be (upon pet's preference).

How long i can keep rehydrated food in the freezer?
Answer by ChewyOct 17, 2017
The product is safe until the expiration date, but freshest within the first few weeks of opening. Refrigeration is an option if you choose to extend the freshness.

Poor quality control

I’ve had this item on auto ship for about 2 years and added a patty to my dogs meals for extra protein. I would occasionally get a batch that was harder than usual but my last 2 batches were hard as a rock. I could barely break them myself and had to soften with water in order for my dogs to eat them. I will no longer be purchasing.

Did something change?

My dog has been eating the chicken and the beef all her 7 years of life. Now, stomach aches, diarrhea, and inflamed intestines? Is it the food? After bloody and slimy diarrhea I stopped feeding it and gave her a homemade for 2 weeks - she got better. Went back slowly to working in this S&C food again (only half a serving at each meal) and it was back to stomach aches. I am not saying it is 100% the food -- maybe she is just getting older now and it's too rich for her? Not sure. The food is not consistent though, so I have to wonder about ingredients. Sometimes crumbly and falls apart, other times hard as a rock. If the ingredients were EXACTLY the same every time, it would be consistent. Just posting this in case anyone else is experiencing the same.

chicken dinner patties

I have had really good luck with these dinner patties until I got the Chickenpatties. My little havanese will not eat the Chicken patties. He likes the surf and turf flavor and liked the chicken flavor in the puppy patties but dislikes these dinner patties. They also seemed unusually dry like saw dust almost. Now I have a big bag of chicken patties that he won't eat. I recommend this product but not this flavor.

Poor packing

Let me start by saying, my dogs love this product. However, the packaging is inadequate. By the time it reaches me many of the patties have turned to dust. Keep in mind this food is pricey so for a fourth of it to be powder is disappointing. Chewy, you need to find a solution. Rant over

price up, quality down

The quality has gone way down & the price has gone way up. My 2dogs (IG & spaniel) loved all flavours 4yrs ago— however, every year the quality declines. Bags come ripped open; ½ patties are in dust; they’re hard as a rock; won’t break in half without using a carving knife; & my 2 dogs don’t like it anymore.

Pattties have been harder than usual

My dogs love this brand and I have been buying it for years. Lately when I get it from here it’s like the bag wasn’t fully sealed and the patties are hard. I found it in a local pet store and it is a lot more fresh and easy to crumble.

My Dogs love these!

I bought these for my mini dachshund who is a senior dog, he loooves these begs for it every morning and evening. I rehydrate the patties to help with the dryness and add a little hydration. My pitbull is also a fan of these patties! Currently tried chicken flavor, recently ordered in other flavors to try.

Dinner Patties

These didn't work out for my dog, they gave him the runs, doesn't mean it's not a good food but I still have some I can't use.

Good but not great

This product usually is fantastic but this bag just isn’t the same quality as in the past.
