    they liked it!! except one

Had trouble with first serving. Needed to mash it up with fork. Then, three of the five ate it. Then, changed flavor to duck and four ate it. Also, Stella and Chewy's was kind enough to talk with me on the phone to help me understand what I need to do to continue a good experience and all is well. Still Had trouble with first serving. Still having one cat who has problems with food, but will keep working on it. Chewy.com has been the absolute best in helping me make this transition to proper food for my cats, as I have been ill for years but this last six months we are all getting better. I recommend this product as they have small sizes you can try. Mash it with a fork if your cat(s) are resisting, and you can use the dry morsels crumbled as treats instead of the potato chip temptations some cats get hooked on. You will be amazed if you are transitioning from a cheap high carb food to high protein. You will see a change in their coat, eyes, and even their disposition gets better with less sleeping and more harmony among the little family. It is amazing. Great product and Chewy.com is the best. … more

    Sometimes yes, sometimes no

I have been using this product for quite a while now. One thing I have noticed is the discrepancies between production runs. S&C says they produce in small batches and the recipe never changes. However I often find differences among different batch numbers. I order 6 or more bags at a time and always I have been using this product for quite a while now. One thing I have noticed is the discrepancies between production runs. S&C says they produce in small batches and the recipe never changes. However I often find differences among different batch numbers. I order 6 or more bags at a time and always get bags with differing numbers. The problem I am finding is that occasionally the cats, and there are 5 of them only one of who is finicky, refuse to eat a bag or two because of the differences. There will be large inconsistencies in smell that even I can tell, texture, dryness, hardness making it almost impossible to crush the nuggets and oilyness making the nuggets feel very greasy. Makes me wonder if the batch was freeze dried sufficiently. I wonder each time I open a new bag if they will eat it or not. I have been doing research lately to find something new that is more consistent. Right now I am experimenting with Instinct. Steve, the finicky one refused it tonight. I have also been making my own raw. However grinding bone is a chore and I am concerned about not getting exact ingredient amounts, especially nutrients. So far chick chick is the one product they all agree on. I just wish S&C would get on the ball. … more

Well, silly me. I didn't read the bag and tried to feed this to my cats dry. Then we tried tepid water. Then we tried warm water. Meh. They weren't impressed.

I love this brand but unfortunately, my cat hated this food. I'd recommend because i trust the brand, but cats can be picky.

  • Huge Ingredient Discrepancy

    By on

I kept relying on Chewys own Ingredient list vs reading the actual package. Big mistake. With ALL these Stella & Chewy Freeze Dried Cat foods (have not checked the dog food) there are discrepancies on the ingredients - between the bag sizes AND what Chewy lists as the ingredients. That's NOT GOOD. Check a 3.5 oz bag back label, vs 9oz, 12oz and 18oz of the SAME PRODUCT. Some show Pea fiber and Menadione Sodium Bisulfate Complex (Source Of Vitamin K) - while others don't list pea fiber or the artificial Vit K. One shows Parsley (in Chewy's description) - while the bag label they uploaded does NOT correspond. This is not comforting and I will address it with Chewy customer service, but I kept relying on Chewys own Ingredient list vs reading the actual package. Big mistake. This needs to get straightened out. … more

  • My cat completely ignored this both dry and wet

    By on

My cat absolutely loves dry food, but unfortunately this product was completely ignored by him. I'm not sure if it's freeze dried food in general that doesn't appeal to him, or if this food is just full of so much filler that it doesn't smell yummy. He would get all excited to hear the bag but then sniff and immediately look up at me like, "Where is it?" Normally he at least tries new food I give him. I've had times before where he's tasted something and then refused to eat more of it. But he's never before completely ignored food, and I can't imagine he'd ever ignore crunchy food until I got him this. I tried wetting it as instructed and giving it to him: same reaction. We ordered this freeze dried cat food, because of the great reviews, but our three cats wouldn't eat it. We ended up taking it to the Humane Society.

  • Not a favorite

    By on Top 25 Contributor

I bought this because of all the good reviews, and I recommend it because it has great ingredients. It is NOT, however, a favorite with any of my 4 cats, nor do they care for any of the other Stella and CHewy flavors. I'm thinking its because they really Like Wysong Archetype chicken and Primal Turkey, and to their tastebuds, I guess nothing else compares
