What are the sharp things I'm finding in the freeze-dried foods? Aren't they harmful?
Stella & Chewy's adds raw ground bone to all dinners as it's an essential part of a raw diet. The bone is safe and highly digestible when raw. The bone is ground with a 3/16 grind plate this means the bone could appear up to approximately 1/4-in size. The bone in the diet is ground to that size because of the health benefits it provides. A carnivore's teeth and body are designed to consume bone especially raw bone, like the bone used in each S&C meal. If it's ground to a powder, it doesn't have as many of the benefits. While it may feel sharper to our fingers, a carnivore's body is designed to consume and process the bone effectively and safely, as long as it's never cooked, heated, or microwaved.
What food safety procedures does Stella & Chewy's follow?
Stella & Chewy's has a patented food safety procedure to ensure the safety of every product. The most powerful step in this procedure is the high-pressure processing (HPP) step this is a cold-water pressure process that effectively eliminates harmful bacteria from the food. This process is used on all products, regardless of the protein. As food-borne bacteria can be present in any type of meat, Stella & Chewy's feel that incurring the extra cost of HPP for all products is the responsible thing to do. This way pet parents can rest assured that they're always bring a safe food into their home. Additionally, HPP is the only reliable method for maintaining the wonderful raw nutrition of our products while still removing harmful pathogens.
All batches of food are sent to a 3rd party testing facility to be tested for both Salmonella and E.coli and Listeria no food ever leaves the plant without negative test results in hand. These test results are posted on stellaandchewys.com. Stella & Chewy's is highly committed to creating the most nutritious, safe, and delicious product on the market.
Can I feed my pet more than one flavor of Stella & Chewy's?
We do suggest rotating proteins every 2-6 weeks. This means you would feed one flavor consistently for 2-6 weeks, then switch to another flavor for 2-6 weeks, etc. This is a great way to give your dog variety and to help keep protein-based allergies at bay.
Can the Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried foods be cooked or heated?
Stella & Chewy's products cannot be cooked, heated or microwaved. Doing so removes much of the nutrition. Additionally, we add raw, ground bone to our products as it's an essential part of a raw diet. Raw bone is incredibly safe however when bone cooks, it can become brittle and can splinter. Cooked bone is never safe for animals.
What is the shelf life on Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried products?
Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried foods have an expiration date of 18 months past the date of production. It is suggested to use our products by this date, or within a few days after. Much past that and we would recommend discarding the bag. Freezing or refrigerating would not extend the listed shelf life.
Are the cat and dog products the same and can they be used interchangeably?
It's a question we hear a lot and we always suggest using the Stella & Chewy's product that was designed specifically for your cat or dog. Our dinners for dogs are not harmful to a cat, but they don't offer the balanced nutritional requirements of a cat either. You could occasionally offer the dog food to your cat, but wouldn't you prefer to give them the nutrients their furry little bodies need?
Is Stella & Chewy's suitable for diabetic cats or dogs?
Many pet parents have told us that their animals thrive on a raw diet because of the low carbohydrate content. But every animal is different, so we recommend consulting with your veterinarian to determine what is best suited for your pet.

Odie Approved and Dog mom appreciated!
By Tiff on Feb 13, 2021
We adopted Odie about 1.5 years ago now. From the get go he just didn't seem interested in eating..he loved treats though. I tried so many different kinds and he would eat a few bites and just let it sit there..so I would add wet food, cheese, crush his treats up into tiny pieces and always the same thing. It got to the point where I would have to sit next to him and hand feed him. Well as with anyone you love you get used to it I would wake up an hour early take him to do his chores and sit with him while he ate and then get ready for work. Then I came across the magical dinner dust. I sprinkle it on his food in the a.m. and he just gobbles it right up!! I've tried all the flavors and he loves We adopted Odie about 1.5 years ago now. Magical indeed!
By Laura on Feb 22, 2021
My greyhound Mona Lisa has always been the world's pickiest eater. At 14.5 yo, every pound lost is a problem, so we were willing to stand on our heads to get her to eat. We tried everything, including fresh bacon, stinky fish treats, gourmet wet food, ketchup, maple syrup, you name it. Magical Dinner Dust is the ONLY thing that she consistently eats. She's actually gained a couple of pounds. Just a sprinkle on top of her regular, boring dried kibble is all it takes. Miracle!

No More Food Strikes! Just a little does the trick, Economical!
By dwells on Feb 2, 2021
My 140lb Coonhound/Mastiff rescue used to demand a huge portion of Honest Kitchen dehydrated food as a topper. My Pughuahua got bored with that and decided to go on a hunger strike. I tried this in desperation. A light "dusting" of this magic powder has got both of them reminding me that it's time to eat. This is hugely economical because I use less than a teaspoon on both dog's bowls combined. It doesn't matter what kibble I'm serving, it now gets devoured by both of them. I've had the bag for over a month now and it is still looking pretty full. I'm going to try bacon flavor next. If your dog chokes on the inhaled powder, I'm talking about you, Pugs, use a spray bottle to mist the My 140lb Coonhound/Mastiff rescue used to demand a huge portion of Honest Kitchen dehydrated food as a topper. truly is magical!
By lii13 on Feb 20, 2021
Our recently adopted pittie mix decided she didn’t like her food anymore. Just suddenly, one day, would NOT eat her food as is. We tried some safe human mixers like broth, eggs, blueberries and she ate, but it took a lot of coaxing. About a cap-full of this magic dust mixed with her dry food and she gobbled this up. I would def recommend and will be trying other flavors as well

Maya Loves this Dust!
By Wildcat on Feb 3, 2021 Top 500 Contributor
Our 100 pound mix is healthy but shedding. She eats a good quality canned food and occasional kibble but her coat was not as it should be. Enter the Magical Dust and voila! In just two weeks more vibrancy, interest, a much shinier, thicker coat and NO shedding! Obviously even good foods lack vital nutrients. Its truly amazing how well this product worked. We know the advantage of raw food, etc. but we don't have the experience to do it right. This is a great product hands down.

The solution for a picky eater
By Emily on Feb 4, 2021
It's cheesy to be the one to say, "This really IS magical!" but, truly, this has been the only solution that makes our picky eater eat! We went through various rounds of trying different food, different mix-ins, different feeding schedules, and nothing worked until I found this Dinner Dust. I just sprinkle it on and voila, she eats! Absolutely would recommend this for anyone else trying to find the solution for a picky dog's peculiarities.

Lifesaver miracle worker
By corgifamily on Feb 8, 2021
My corgi pup kept turning her nose up at her food. Trail toppers and other add ones weren’t helping as she would just eat them and leave the food. I decided to give this a try and she ate her entire bowl of kibble. I couldn’t recommend this more! I barely had to use any sprinkled on top of her food! Don’t hesitate to give it a try!

Toppers are great!
By Marilyn on Feb 14, 2021
I've been thinking about food toppers for years and finally got into them. With 4 dogs 3 cats food costs real money. My dogs love this and other toppers especially when they decide to give up on their food. The topper seems to get them to eat their Science Diet.

This stuff is the bomb
By Molly on Feb 1, 2021
For the past 6 months since my little girl Pittie mix had hip surgery she would not eat dog food unless she was starving. Making her hamburgers, chicken and chicken livers was driving me nuts, changing dog food was not fun either. Tried the MAGIC DUST and the bowl actually is licked clean...:)

This is the best I've ever tried.
By Carrie on Jan 27, 2021
Just sprinkle a tiny bit over the kibble and your dog will think she has a feast! My pug didn't like kibble plain. I just shook the bag over the food the way I'd salt my own food, just a little sprinkle, and that did it. The directions to add spoonfuls? Totally unnecessary. Go lightly and it will work wonders.
