Great for small birds...not so much for woodpeckers

By LadyKay on Feb 18, 2021

I bought this because squirrels and raccoons kept destroying or stealing my suet feeders. This feeder solved that problem - although raccoons are still able to stick their paws through the holes and clean the feeder out at night. Problem is that the only woodpecker that I’ve seen in it is the downy woodpecker. Red bellied woodpeckers ignore it...probably because of the mesh size. It’s great for small birds, though. I’ve seen wrens and chickadees on it. But will have to come up with some other solution for larger birds.

    Nice but not great

By ArtD on Feb 18, 2021

This is an attractive feeder and it is well made. It keeps squirrels out and also many of the birds. The opening for the birds to get in only allows for a small sparrow or smaller species. Is it worth it? Not sure. Only had one bird in two days

Not sure I’m happy with this bird feeder

By Litequeen on Jan 8, 2021

This works for squirrels, and big birds, but the little birds don’t seem to be using it either. We have tons of grackles and they just dominate the other suet feeder we have, so I bought this for the bluebirds and other small birds. Not sure if the bluebirds can fit into the feeder. I have seen a few small birds inside. I’m hoping there will be more maybe they just need to get used to the feeder. So I don’t think I can recommend this feeder. It is very well made.

    Bear Proof

    By Bedington7 on Dec 29, 2020

We had both an old suet feeder and this new feeder that the birds enjoyed. Because we left them hanging day and night the local bear took both feeders away. Found the old feeder with the door and suet missing. When we found this new feeder it was intact, suet untouched, with bear claw marks on the lid. Score: Birds - 1, Bear - 0, Squirrel - 0

    The birds love it!

By Linda on Dec 26, 2020

We bought this because the squirrels were emptying our bird feeder too quickly. This defeats their efforts completely! No more squirrels. At first the birds were a bit confused as they had been used to the old bird feeder. However, in no time they had figured it out and were flocking to it. It has been a delight to watch them!

    Better than advertised

By George on Jan 9, 2021

This feeder looks great in my yard. 100% better than those smaller green cages that never close property. And the squirrel-proof cage around the feeder also prevents larger birds from devouring the suet. The roof protects the suet from breaking apart during rain.

    Doesn't deter bigger birds

By NJcentral on Jan 11, 2021

The squirrels have already been deterred by the hot suet - but this was also advertised to deter bigger birds. Nope. They can still get at it with their long beaks. So that is a fail.

    not attractive

By TSBJS on Jan 13, 2021

the birds are afraid of it! I put it where I had the wire basket, and they will not use it. A few tried it, to begin with, and it's now been totally abanded.

    It's Great!

By Grimy on Jan 13, 2021

This suet feeder is keeping the squirrels from getting the suet very nicely! The birdies are able to eat their suet in peace now.
