It's good for my young rat but too thin, not enough sturdy wire for my older one. It's not made for rats so I'm not judging it based on that--it'd be great for small birds. It's still a fine climb/fall breaker for inside the cage, but I'd probably stick to using this for who it's meant for(birds) though mice might have a fun time with it.
