Feed 1 to 1.5 ounces daily per degu in a heavy, non-plastic dish. Fresh drinking water and unlimited high-fiber hay should always be available: timothy for adults, alfalfa for degus under 1 year of age. Supplement with fresh leafy greens & chopped vegetables. Degus are highly sensitive to sugar and should not be fed fruit. Offering seeds or nuts by hand as a treat is a great way to reward and bond with your pet, but should be fed sparingly. Discard uneaten food and clean dish before each feeding. If you have not fed Vita Prima before, introduce it gradually over a 10 to 14-day period to prevent digestive upset.
