For us, better than the other brand!
When our 45 pound Lab puppy Charlotte was spayed, I asked the Vet's office whether it would be OK to replace the cone with a onesie. They said we would need to watch her closely, but agreed a onesie can be a safe and effective alternative. That morning I ordered two of them, the Wonder Suit by Surgi Snuggly and the one from the other brand, Suitical. They arrived the next afternoon, thanks Chewey! Reviews for the Suitical said they run on the larger side, so I ordered the medium. Reviews for the Surgi Snuggly said the opposite, so I ordered a large. The medium Suitical was actually too large, and was loose and saggy in the belly area that most needs protection. In contrast, the large Surgi Snuggly was a perfect fit!. I love that the wrap around straps are secured with Velcro on the back, so the suit can be adjusted nice and snug around the surgical site. Clearly a better design, in my opinion. Charlotte is so much happier now than she was in the cone and her wound is well protected in a nice and snug Snuggly! Easy to use, perfect fit, very pleased with this purchase!
Ebby’s Super Suit
This is the best purchase we could have made! Thank you for creating an awesome super suit! We bought a small long in this surgi snuggy for our 7.5 lb Morkie Poo for her spay surgery at 6 months. We only pulled the straps through for the first night. After that it was long enough to leave undone and straps fold up into the velcro pocket. The long version of the snuggy fit over her long incision. So the most she did days later was try to take the straps out of the pocket and pull her self along which was just funny. She is doing fantastic and the snuggy comes off on the 15th day for a wash and to see if she will be good to go. Any larger than 7.5 lbs and you might consider a medium long. And the fabric is so nice and breathable she didn’t seem to get hot. It’s a hard surgery recovery for the first few days for any puppy. And this product really helps! So I hope this review helps many pet parents.
did not work for us but fit my border collie perfectly
i think this is a super smart idea, but i ended up having to buy a soft cone instead because my puppy licked through this material and it would get wet and we would have to remove it immediately, the vet also told us that open air was better for his healing than this kind of suit. i ordered a size large and my a tiny border collie who is 32 lbs. he has a long body but is slim! l fit him well but we only used it on him twice since he would not stop licking the are and getting it wet. great idea, and which it could come water proofed!
Great alternative to 'The Cone Of Shame'
The plastic cone was just not a good option for our Miniature Poodle that had back surgery for a ruptured disc. With a long 8" scar down the middle of his back, he wasn't really interested in getting to the incision area very often - but would attempt like any animal would. The plastic cone was just miserable for a dog being crated for some 6 weeks for healing time - and in/outs of the crate - bumping into the door, discomfort for the little guy was just unacceptable. Enter the Surgi Snuggly ! What a great option. A little difficult getting it on since it does fit 'snuggly' - so check sizes and measure correctly ! Once on - kept our Charlie comfortable with no cone and seemed to completely eliminate his interest in even getting to his incision site. Easy to undo the straps and flip up the back so he could do 'his business - pee or poop' - then easy to velcro back into place. He rested and slept so much better than with a cone on. The fabric is extremely breathable and his incision site healed just perfectly with the suit on. His surgeon was very pleased with his surgery site healing so the Surgi Snuggly didn't affect anything with the healing process. (didn't hurt that the colors made him look like a 'Super Dog' :-)
How many ways can I love this
Seriously, these rock. You do have to do a really good job measuring though, because they fit like a scuba suit. First we used on on my nursing momma when she was weaning puppies, then on the same girl when she was spayed to protect her incision. So worth it to not have the stupid cone!!! Washes well. We have 2 so I can rotate one in the wash while she wears the other. Well worth it.
suit does not cover surgical area AT ALL
This suit is NOT SUITABLE for use after spay surgery. It fit my dog's body perfectly, so it was not a case of me buying the incorrect size, but the design of the suit does not cover the ONE BODY PART that needed covering!
I have a poodle border collie mix, 6 months old, 38 pounds. I followed the sizing advice and ordered a “large long”, and it BARELY fits her. She is very squeezed in there. I don’t know whether it is supposed to fit this snugly, but I am concerned it’s going to be very irritating to her back legs in particular, as much as the fabric is pulling. I just hope it will serve to get us through the recovery from her spay surgery right now, but it will sure never fit her in the future, if she gains even an OUNCE. She wasn’t real thrilled about it having to go over her head, either. I hope it safely keeps her from getting at her stitches. Pretty expensive for a one-time use (because of the crazy sizing). So, order at least one size larger than they tell you!
Fun and functional
Bamba was so relieved to get to spend his post surgery time in this cute onesie rather than dealing with the cone. He is a 55 lb goldendoodle and the large long fit him great. The suit was easy to take on and off and dried quickly when washed.
My dog had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her left side. Due to the size of the tumor, the wound had to be closed in stages after surgery. So, my dog had an open wound on her side for about 3 weeks. I could not have made it through that period without this Surgi Snuggly. It kept all the bandages in place (for the most part) as well as kept the wound covered and safe. It was also easy to wash. It eliminated any fear of my dog getting to the wound especially when I was not home and she did not have to wear a surgical cone post-surgery. Great product! I should note, I did not use the lower part of the Snuggly that covers the back tail area as that was not needed for my dog so, I can’t review how that worked. I kept the lower part rolled up. My one recommendation for this product is that it be helpful if a version was made without the lower back part. I did find I had to keep rolling that part up and re-tucking in the Velcro flap provided, which was really a very minor inconvenient.
Might Work for Some Dogs
The designer of this product is a genius. It totally covers the underside of your pet so they cannot "physically" come in contact with, for example, stitches from neutering. My 80lb German Shepherd had no trouble becoming accustomed to having the suit on. It's so simple to detach the back end and roll things up out of the way for their bathroom needs. The PROBLEM is that it's very common for animals to lick a wound. After two days I had to stop using the suit as there was a constant big wet patch over the incision area, which of course is not advantageous for healing. If your pet by chance didn't try licking their stitches through the suit then I imagine you'd love this product. For me it was a total waste of $38.95 and delayed the healing by at least two days. I ended up using the Vet's cone after all.
