Surolan Otic Suspension for Dogs is prescribed by your vet to relieve and treat ear infections and dermatitis in dogs. It soothes itching while it treats infections caused by yeast, fungi and gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

The ingredients in Surolan are a combination of antifungal, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory agents including polymyxin B, miconazole, and prednisolone to help treat otitis externa.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects may include a stinging sensation, especially on the open or broken skin and an oyster-like or garlic breath and taste in the mouth. If allergic to this medication, some of the signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, diarrhea or vomiting. Please contact your veterinarian if any of the above allergic-reactions occur. Other side effects and reactions may occur.

Drug & Food Interactions

Surolan is contraindicated in dogs with suspected or known hypersensitivity to miconazole nitrate, polymyxin B sulfate, or prednisolone acetate. Do not use in dogs with known perforated tympanum. Do not use with drugs known to induce ototoxicity.

Before instilling any medication into the ear, examine the external ear canal thoroughly to be certain the tympanic membranes are not ruptured. If overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria or fungi occurs, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted. Long-term use of topical otic corticosteroids has been associated with adrenocortical suppression and iatrogenic hypoadrenalcorticism in dogs. The safe use of Surolan in dogs used for breeding purposes, during pregnancy, or in lactating dogs has not been evaluated.

What Causes Otitis Externa In Dogs?

Otitis externa is inflammation of the outer ear. Sometimes otitis externa in dogs is caused by allergies. In other cases, otitis externa can be the result of bacteria and/or yeast in the ear. Ear mites, growing hair, trapped water or a foreign body inside the ear can all influence how likely a dog is to get otitis externa. Frequent bathing, swimming and incorrect cleaning methods can also contribute to the infection.

    Constant Ear Infections

    By on

My lab just turned one, she has had four ear infections and they just kept coming back for one ear especially. Because of that our vet recommended this medicine to see if it would make a difference. So far we are almost done with this medication and after 10 days of use our vet already says her ear looks fantastic! We will stick to this medicine for now on.

My dog had three forms of bacteria in her ears. Vet suggested this and so far so good. We are 2 weeks in and it seems to be working. She will probably be on this for 6 weeks total. Life with a lab!
