About Taste of the Wild Cat Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be cheetahs or lions, but today's domestic cats share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium fish and meats like smoke-flavored salmon, trout, ocean fish, roasted venison and chicken. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pet feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a cat's GI tract. The proprietary Viables probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your cat gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your kitty will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your little wildcat just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from smoke-flavored salmon or ocean fish, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Answer by ChewyMar 03, 2018
Taste of the Wild has five manufacturing facilities, all located in the United States: two in California, one in Missouri, one in South Carolina and one in Arkansas. Taste of the Wild uses some ingredients that are not USA sourced. The lamb from New Zealand, lamb meal and venison from Australia, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to the formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China.

About how many cups is in the 14-lb bag?
Answer by ChewyFeb 11, 2019
The 5 pound bag contains 20 cups and the 14 pound bag contains 56 cups of kibble.

What percentage of the protein is from meat?
Answer by ChewyJan 22, 2020
Due to the pet food industry being a very competitive business, companies want to keep their recipes proprietary at the risk of them being copied by others. The percentage of protein from an animal source is considered proprietary information. The overall protein in this formula is 42% min. The first two ingredients are Chicken meal, peas, therefore making up a majority of the protein content in this formula.

Good with one caveat

I was looking for a healthy dry food that my cat would actually eat. It seems like all dry food is either really junky and tasty for cats, or really high-quality and the cats hate it. He will eat this but unfortunately it makes his poop smell extremely strong and vile. It seems like other people have had this issue too. My cat likes it OK, but I will probably have to try another food just for the poop issue.

My cat loves this!

I was looking for a new food for my 9 month old cat who I believed wasn’t getting enough protein from old food and I chose this due to the protein and nutrient count. I was worried because her other food, she had been eating since she was a couple months old, but as soon as I sat this bag down she was trying to chew through it! She loves it, no upset tummy either. I do feed a little more than the recommended daily due to it being so low and she is still at a healthy 6 pounds.

Mixed feelings

I try new food once in a while cause my cats seem to get tired of same o food all the time. Sometimes it’s hard to please a them all. This one was two thumbs for all! What my complaint is that it was very crummy. Had so much powder crumbs! Cats don’t seem to mind but I don’t like it! Not sure if that’s how it always is. Might give it another chance.

READ THE LABEL

Don't be deceived. The first ingredient is CHICKEN meal. Venison is 6th down the line of ingredients and salmon is 7th, ending with fish meal. Unfortunately I didn't read the label before ordering and serving, now my allergic to chicken cat may be miserable with itching soon.

Cats love this food

So happy to find a good quality cat food, without the usual fillers and chicken by products, at a reasonable price. My boy Nick, who is allergic to most cat foods, has no issues with this and definitely loves the taste.

Warning: May stimulate cat diving

We had a feline adopt us in December. As we advertised for his old family to find him, we got by on small bags of food. We finally accepted that he was ours and looked for a food we could commit to. He seemed unimpressed by all the options so far but I filed that under "cat quirks." Since we get our dog food through Chewy, it made sense to add on the cat food as well. Honestly, I blindly chose this brand based on ingredients and price per pound. The reviews about cats refusing to eat it had me a little worried especially since our guy was already being a bit picky. Ummm...not an issue with this food. He JUMPED on the box as soon as it was delivered and was fully invested in the unboxing. I had to pour the food around and over his head as I transferred the kibble to jars for storage. He buried his head into each jar to scarf down as many bites as he could before I could locate and secure the lid. Granted, we haven't had him long but we've still been through 3 or 4 brands and I've not seen him this excited about food yet. While I can't speak on the long term results of the product, we are on a good start so far.

Its all he eats

I feed my cat this because this is what they fed him at the shelter. He doesn't want anything else. Fancy dry, any kind of wet, even most treats, nope. He just wants this. He's a healthy boy with a beautiful coat, so I see no reason to try changing his diet anytime soon.

This stuff is wonderful. All of the cays love it! Great for their eyes, coat and digestion. I even give it to my 15 year old Bengal!

Caused diarrhea

I purchased because vet recommended novel protein diet. My cat is on meds for diabetes and hyperthyroidism, buy was still losing some fur so wanted to try venison diet. This food caused chronic diarrhea in my cat (and I switched foods over gradually)...he's never been prone to GI upset before, so I felt terrible for him. The poop also smelled like absolute death. I would be careful with this diet for senior pets. I now have him on prescription Biome food, and that has fixed the damage that this food caused.
