About Taste of the Wild Dog Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Does the food product have GMO ingredients?
Answer by ChewyOct 25, 2017
This formula has GMO ingredients.

How many cups are in a 28lb bag?
Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2019
There's approximately 4 cups of kibble in every one pound of food. The 5-pound bag holds 20 cups of food, the 14-pound bag holds 56 cups and the 28-pound bag holds 112 cups.

Do you get any ingredients from china?
Answer by ChewyMar 29, 2019
Taste of the Wild does use some ingredients that are not USA sourced like lamb from New Zealand, lamb meal and venison from Australia, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to their formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China. Their choice is to either include these ingredients or manufacture our foods without them, which would not be in the best interest of your pet.

Answer by ChewyJun 10, 2021
This variety contains approximately 1.9% Calcium content on an as fed basis (2.1% on a dry matter basis).

Not a Favorite

Chewys offers great customer service! Unfortunately our dog, Luna, was not a big fan of this food. We mixed it with other food and she ate it then. Nothing against the food or service.

Completely disappointed in this food!

This food for one was more dust and broken pieces than kibble, and my boys would not even think about touching it and I tried everything to entice them to eat it.

Instant love !

Took our dogs to the vet recently and the doctor recommended us to try a better food for our senior dogs. She said to go with this brand but stay away from seafood products. So we decided to try out taste of the wild. They loved it instantly! It was a hit for all 3 dogs!! Will be buying again.

Taste is awful

I probably am among the few customers that taste what is going into their dog's mouth. The Taste of the Wild that I ordered tasted like sawdust to me. My dog did not even taste it.

Infested with bugs

I have used this product for 6+ years. It arrived infested with sugar ants. Not native to my area. Will not be using this service ever again.

Dogs are thriving

Our 2 dogs are doing well on this food. It's a little pricey but we want our senior dogs around as long as possible.

Bo has been doing well with this food for the 2.5 years I've had him!

My dog, Bojangles - Bo for short - has been eating Taste of the Wild Southwest and also one of their other kinds as well, mixed in, for 2.5 years and loves it. He's healthy and seems to do well with it. It's hard to find decent dog food these days, but I think Taste of the Wild is a good one and my Vet seems to agree. I recommend trying it. I'd order from Chewy.com - wonderful company and customer service!

Tasted of the wild

I've been feeding taste of the wild to my 13-year-old Rottweiler from day one I've never had any issues and he loves this food.

So much dusty crumbles

I have been feeling this brand for years. I like to switch up the flavor for them sometimes. This one has so much of the dusty crumbles. You know like the stuff at the very bottom of the bag? There is a ton of it all through the food. The pups aren’t crazy about it either.

Missed opportunity for great support

Before reactivating my recurring dog food order, I changed the payment method and the shipping address. I was very careful to have stopped the shipments when I moved and only restarted them once I had a permanent address. For some reason my payment method was declined so I was asked to enter in new information which I did. I think that is when the old address auto populated. As soon as I got the confirmation email I called and then emailed to let you all now about the mistake. Two orders shipped simultaneously and one got shipped correctly to Texas and the other shipped incorrectly to UT. There was nothing overtly mean about the support but there also didn’t seem to be much urgency about getting the issue resolved or finding a solution to a loyal clients situation. There was no proper ownership of the mistake. I like chewy a lot but I wish someone would have looked into the details more and been more proactive in helping me out in my specific circumstances.
