When cleaning the filter, unplug it. Do not use detergents or soap, as residues may harm fish.
Do not use sand in the aquarium when using the internal filter.
If the foam grid becomes clogged, remove and wash with water until debris is removed.
Replace filter cartridge every four weeks. To change the cartridge, unplug filter, remove and replace cartridge, and re-plug the filter.
If the motor is noisy, unplug the filter and remove it from aquarium. Remove the motor, open its cover, and flush gravel, leaves, or other debris with cool water. Replace the motor into the filter, mount the filter in the aquarium, and re-plug the unit.
It takes a few weeks for new aquarium water to be conditioned. You can use EasyBalanceTM to speed up conditioning. During the conditioning period, feed fish lightly and be sure all food is consumed.
When putting tap water into the aquarium, add AquaSafeTM water conditioner to neutralize harmful chlorine and chloramines.
Insert the filter cartridge and foam grid. (Note: the front of the foam grid is market "front" and should face the front of the internal filter.)
Hang the filter inside the aquarium and press the suction cup against the aquarium glass. Drape wire over the aquarium wall.
The lip of the internal filter should be above water level, and the bottom of the internal filter should be at least one inch above the aquarium gravel. When positioning plants and other items, leave approximately 1/2 inches of clearance around the filter.
Raise or lower the internal filter by adjusting the filter hanger. Rotate the filter hanger 90 degrees, remove it, and replace it in an alternate alignment hole. (In turtle tanks, the bottom of the internal filter should be submerged in at least 2 inches of water.)
If the filter hanger does not fit on the aquarium frame, it can be replaced with an extra suction cup (provided). When pressed firmly, the suction cup will fit snugly into the filter.
I have bought this filter twice already for my musk turtle, Borus. The first filter lasted about 8 months and finally died about two weeks ago, so I had to buy a new one. The filter works great though considering the price! The water is crystal clear and as long as I don't let the water go too low and change the filter frequently, I don't have any issues with it. The only reason that I out 4 stars instead of 5 is because the thing to hang it on the side of the aquarium isn't very strong and sometimes fall off (especially since my turtle likes to run into it at times lol). Other than that, I highly recommend it. It works just as well as the very expensive filters out there.
Incredible...for twenty minutes.

I decided on the 10i for a five gallon aquarium. At first, I was very impressed with how quiet the filter was. I didn't like the lack of grooves for the filter and scrubber to keep them in place like I've seen on other filters, but could get over that since the filter appeared to be extremely effective in removing debris from the water. About twenty minutes after setup and installation, the motor began to make the most awful grinding noise. It is extremely loud. For a product advertised as whisper quiet, I am extremely disappointed in the short lifespan. I didn't even get fish into the tank. As per the instructions that came with the filter, I did check the motor for obstructions and flushed I decided on the 10i for a five gallon aquarium. Not for 5 gallons

I have a 5 gallon tank for my betta and I got this filter to put in it thinking it would be small enough to not bother my fish. It is very large. It was as tall as my tank and about 2.5-3 inches in diameter, making it take up a lot of room in the tank. The current was effecting my betta swimming and getting in his way. Other than that it’s a nice filter, just wish it came smaller.
Don't waste your money on this junk

Filter worked for approximately two hours. I've bought 3 of these in the past two weeks. The longest one has worked is 12 hours. It's a shame, they are the perfect size/height for the turtle tank and you can create some neat waterfall landscapes around them - if only it would run for more than a day. Sadly, without filteration/areation for two weeks most of my fish died.
My favorite filter yet

I had to replace an old filter that had the typical small tube to suck up the water. I had no idea there were filters like this one that didn’t use the tube anymore and is so silent! My tank looks great. An super pleased.
Absolutely the best..

inexpensive filter on the market today. I've used this filter for a baby turtle set-up in 4 inches of water.. and one on either end of a 55 gallon tank ( 4 foot long ) that has under-gravel filter in the middle. The open top makes media changes a breeze!
And CHEWEY delivers right on time!!!

i 100% recommend! i struggled to keep my turtles tank clean for more than a week until i bought this filter. I changed his water when i received the filter, its about to be 2 weeks and it’s still good.. the water flow from the filter is great, it is a little noisy but not too bad. Only thing is you have to clean the bioscrubber with conditioned (Chlorine free) water if there is build-up... but overall i love it

The filter is very difficult to have at the proper level of the water in the tank AND for the life of me I can not get it to stop leaning forward.

I was leery of this filter when it arrived just because it’s so different than the usual filter. But it is super quiet and is working great in my 40 gallon tank.
