Instructions

Maintaining the filter & pump:

  1. The filter cartridge should be replaced every two weeks (or as needed). To change cartridge, unplug the Air Pump to stop the water flow, remove and replace the cartridge, then re-plug the Air Pump.
  2. Remove the filter cartridge when medicating fish, as it absorbs most medications.
  3. Clean the outside of the Air Pump with a damp cloth. When cleaning the filter and Air Pump, unplug the Air Pump. Do not use detergents or soap, as residue may be harmful to fish.
  1. Lift the filter cover. Rinse with tap water and insert the filter cartridge.
  2. Connect the airline tubing to the filters diffuser and Air Pump.
  3. Install the filter inside the. back wall of your tank.(Note: the spillway of the filter should be approximately one-half inch above the water level in the aquarium, and the diffuser should be approximately one-half inch above the aquarium gravel.)
  4. To place the pump on a surface lower than the water level of the aquarium, install the check-valve (included) on the tube between the aquarium and the Air Pump. (Note: The check-valve should be attached close to the air pump nozzle. The check valve prevents water from siphoning into your Air Pump in case of an electrical power failure. It is not necessary to use the check valve if the Air Pump is positioned higher than the water level.)
  5. Plug in the Air Pump creating a drip loop in the power cord and airline tubing.

    Works well for the Triops

    By BZOO on Feb 3, 2020 top250Contributor

Have a small Triop tank... they are filthy little buggers. Have this for use when they are larger, just an airstone running when babies. Have to cut up a fish net and wrap around intake, but it gets the job done. Because Troops are dirty, filter must be changed at least weekly. But they're so cute, it's worth it.

Doesn't filter, stops working after a month (x2)

    By amw2020 on Oct 23, 2019

Got this to purely keep the water flowing a little in my cherry shrimp tank. They're bottom feeders, so it doesnt have much left to filter. I also have a small pleco and some snails. They do most of the natural filtering. I got one, it stopped working within a week. I contacted Chewy, they sent me a new one for free. This second one has now essentially stopped after a month, with only a tiny trickle of water coming out. If you have a betta, you might have better luck, but I'd advise buying something different... I'm about to.

    Good in a pinch

By Emily on Nov 14, 2019

I've kept one of these as a backup, since my tanks are 3.5 to 5.5 with one exception, and it's good for when you don't have another filter to put in. However, the clip is too small and very cheap. If you adjust it too many times, it'll break off the mounting peg inside of it. The filter will not fit on an aquarium with a finished edge - you'll have to freeball it without the clip.

    Whisper by Tetras

By Bernie on Dec 17, 2019

The Whisper pump is small, but need to have a bar over the water flow and not a hole . The fish get stuck in it.

    Pretty good!

    By Justapetservant on Jun 21, 2019 top50Contributor

This filter is pretty good! I use it in a 5.5 gallon paludarium with a male Northern Cricket Frog. Since this type of frog is technically a tree frog, he doesn't seem to use the water part much. However, every once in awhile, he'll decide to soak for a few hours, and that's exactly why I use this filter! It works in about 2.5" of water and is extraordinarily quiet! The flow is soft and it's kept the water clean and clear! I seed the filter with already cycled media from some of my aquariums, and ever since then, the water has been crystal clear!! I highly recommend this filter. I have 3 of these filters; 1 in the frog tank and 2 in the Hermit Crab tank. Hermit Crabs really do require deep water This filter is pretty good! Hermit Crabs really do require deep water dishes that are filtered, and that's exactly what I do. 1 is in the freshwater section, and 1 is in the saltwater section. Overall, I highly recommend these little filters! They're small, quiet, they keep the water clean, and they last!! 5 stars for me :) … more

    Works fantastic

By WNYMomma on May 10, 2019

Had 2 pumps go out in 2.5 gal so tried a bigger pump this one a gift from my daughter in law after several fish losses and tears by my youngest 10 yo son.. no more tears this pump performance is great we’ve gotten good weekly water checks and it helps his tank look great. We’ve had it in two weeks and hopefully it’ll keep doing a great job. We ordered the filter to replace from chewy but haven’t needed yet and it hadn’t been a month yet as recommended to change or sooner if needed.

    step up filter

By wyomingfishgrandpa on Mar 16, 2019

I have a small 3 gal aquarium on the bar and felt I needed a bit more filter. Got in touch with Chewy.com and moved up to a filter for a 5 gal tank. They had all the information I needed for what would fit and filter to use. Our aquarium is perfectly clear, fish are happy and so am I. Living in Wyoming we have a number of pets of all sizes and Chewy are our go to folks.

No Good picture on box is impressive

    By CLB1 on May 21, 2019

Clip is not user friendly, does not stay in place, then will leak. Better off getting a real filter
