Description

You call the shots with the ThunderLeash Dial-A-Distance Safe Retractable Dog Leash. It’s everything you want in a retractable leash, plus one fantastic safety bonus. The unique “dial a distance” feature allows you to choose an automatic stop, so your dog stays as close—or far—as you want. It takes just seconds to adjust your distance, and the manual thumb break is always there should you need to retract earlier than planned. The ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip for long walks, with a lightweight design that ensures your hand never gets tired.

Key Benefits
  • Retractable leash allows you to choose an automatic stop between 0 to 15 feet.
  • Autobrake reliably stops at the length you choose, with a manual thumb break if you need to stop before.
  • Push in the dial and turn to select the length. Smooth and quiet operation is great for timid dogs while keeping them safe.
  • Lightweight and compact design features an ergonomic rubber grip to avoid hand fatigue.
  • Durable enough to hold 275 pounds of tensile force and dogs up to 50 pounds.

FAQ

What Makes Dial-A-Distance Better? Why Is It Better Than The Manual Thumb Brake?

D-A-D offers all the features of a regular retractable with one key difference. Unlike other retractables, you can set the maximum retractable length anywhere from 0 to 15 feet. Within the length you choose it retracts and extends like a regular retractable. And you still can use the thumb brake when needed. But whenever your dog extends to the max you set, D-A-D autobrakes! D-A-D will always keep your dog within a safe range, even during those inevitable distractions on a walk. It’s like having 15 different retractables in one unit!

Aren’t Retractable Leashes Dangerous?

Retractable leashes are not for everyone, but when used properly and safely, they can make walks more enjoyable for all involved…dogs and humans. Dial-A-Distance is the safest retractable leash ever made!

Aren’t Retractable Leashes Bad For The Dog Because They Put Constant Pulling Pressure On The Throat Of The Dog?

The retractable spring in Dial-A-Distance only maintains very light tension in the leash. Most dogs barely notice it. But if you have a dog with a sensitive neck or are otherwise concerned, we absolutely support the use of a harness with any leash, whether retractable or fixed-length. All of the benefits of a Dial-A-Distance work just as well with a harness!

Do Retractable Leashes Encourage Pulling By Applying Pressure On The Dog’s Neck? The retractable spring in Dial-A-Distance only maintains very light tension in the leash, and doesn’t trigger a “pull response” from the vast majority of dogs. But if you are struggling with a “puller”, we absolutely support the use of a harness with a chest D-ring with any leash, whether retractable or fixed-length. All of the benefits of a Dial-A-Distance work just as well with a harness! For PULLERS we have developed the ThunderLeash NO PULL extension that can be easily added to the D-A-D.

What Sized Dogs Is Dial-A-Distance For? What Sizes Will Be Available?

We currently offer our Medium/Large Dial-A-Distance for dogs up to 55 lbs. You can use it for very small dogs, but it might feel a little bulky for dogs under 10 lbs. We will be developing a size Small in the near future.

How Do You Adjust The Maximum Length Of Dial-A-Distance?

So easy! Simply press in the Adjustment Dial and turn to your desired length, from 0 to 15 feet. It takes just a couple of seconds. Adjustments can be made in approximately 1 foot increments.

Can You Still Manually Brake The Leash?

Absolutely! For example, if you set the maximum length to 10 feet, you can still use the manual thumb break to stop extending at less than 10 ft. But at 10 feet, the autobrake will kick in

Is It Strong? How Much Pull Force Can Dial-A-Distance Hold?

The Medium/Large D-A-D can withstand over 275 lbs of pull-force!

    Not quality

By dogbud on Jun 22, 2020

It dial a length feature didn't work from day 1. So now it's just an extra heavy retractable dog leash. My dog is a 50lb lab that isn't a real puller.

Great idea, not durable unless you have a small dog

By Emmyyyyyyy on Feb 4, 2020

3 stars due to questionable durability Had this for almost 4 months and it sometimes locks (wont retract unless I press in the middle black part that adjusts the length of the leash). When I see another dog before my dog and try to lock the leash with the black button on top, it pops off and I have to physically hold the button down with my thumb (normally you can pop it down and it'll stay down and keep the leash at the length you want). I will mention that my dog (he weights 35 lbs) likes to tug and pull when he sees other dogs- if your dog is well behaved on leash, this leash might be a better option for you. I like the idea of it, and it's useful when I walk my mini black lab. When he lunges at other dogs this one is not as harsh on my arms/shoulders compared to regular leashes (absorbed some of the shock), but had I used this leash for the yorkie, it probably would have lasted and been a better leash option. In summary: if you have a small dog, I would say 20 lbs or less or your dog is well behaved and doesn't tug or lunge- this might be a good leash for you. … more

Not a sturdy as it looks

By JoeM on Nov 1, 2019

This looks a feels sturdy. The spring action ( retraction) failed on this leash and could not be repaired. Also, the cord is flat and very thin so if your dog want to chew thru the lease it will easily succeed. I used it for less that 6 months. Both my dogs are about 20 lbs.

    much needed

By Vicka on Oct 17, 2019

I didn’t know how much I needed the adjustable length until I purchased this leash. Extremely convenient. Also great for dogs that pull. I’ve gone through 3 leashes in the last 6 months and this one seems to be holding up great.

Set you own length for the retractable leash

By kfhonline on Oct 19, 2019

If you use a retractable leash, this is a great alternative. I use this when I go to a store or some other place where I want to limit the length of the leash. You pick the length of the leash.

    Great product

By Neeka on Nov 10, 2019

Just what we needed to give our dog more freedom, but the ability to shorten the lead if necessary.

    Heavy duty

By LesA on Aug 27, 2019

Very well made, heavy duty...only negative..dont let the leash fabric run through your hand when dog is running, it can slice.

    One of a kind

By NABB on Jun 9, 2019

The only one in the market with multiple lengths. This is the best leash ever. Make it short for neighborhood walks. Make it long for park walks. Now I know you can lock all other retractable leashes; however, they will drag on the ground and good luck pulling your strong dog.

    Just Right

By Liese on Feb 12, 2019

I've tried quite a few retractable leashes, and my dog strongly disliked all of them... Until we went on a walk with the ThunderLeash! It has just the right tension, so my dog doesn't feel like I'm constantly pulling her. Leash biting is a thing of the past. Now our walks are full of joyful running hither and yon. I especially wanted to try this leash after reading an eBook about loose leash training by NLD, "Reclaim Your Retractable" It's a really sturdy piece of hardware, which is great because my dog is 65 lbs. I like how it feels in hand, the grippy handle is a nice touch. Again, life-changing!
