My cat dislikes seafood and all poultry or blander meats. so the other tiki cat with fish and no meats she disdained. This duck, lamb, and the beef tiki cat after dark she LOVES! I mix feline naturals chicken & lamb dry mixers in as it has higher protein and fat, plus it soaks up some water. bit better balance, but she likes it plain too.

  • Great if you have a cat that doesn't drink a lot of water

    By on

I have 3 cats, one that doesn't drink much water so I get him this because there's a good amount of broth so I don't have to add water like I do to most other wet can foods. Broth is excellent for cats and I highly recommend this

  • Mostly water

    By on

Agree with previous reviews - this can is mostly water. No wonder the calorie content is so low! I wanted to get my cat some variety, but I can add my own water for free, thanks. Generally speaking, Tiki Cat has gone downhill lately. All their cans have fewer calories than before, which makes it even more expensive to feed my cat.

  • Exactly what you should be feeding your cat!

So for a couple years, I stayed away from Tiki Cat because all of their products contained fish in some way and were much pricier than other holistic foods.. But this After Dark line is THE BEST! High quality ingredients, chelated minerals, acceptable phosphorus levels, and no carcinogenic additives. For those of you complaining about the water - it's broth - and your cat is an obligate carnivore. They should rarely drink from their water dish. Most of the water a cat consumes is supposed to come from their food. Upon opening the can, it smelled and looked great - nothing like the typical, cat-food smell from other processed wet foods. Lately, I was buying the pouches of Merrick Back Country, which I was satisfied with, but found myself adding some hot water to the pouch and swishing it around to get out all of the gravy and give him additional water. No need for the extra fuss with Tiki Cat After Dark!! Today, I hit my local mom and pop pet supply shop to grab a few pouches before my Chewy.com order came, as I was completely out of food. I passed by the new Tiki Cat cans, and checked out the ingredients (loved them) and compared the price... I used to feed him two 3 ounce packages per day at $1.29 to $1.49 per pouch.. However, one 5.5 oz can of Tiki Cat comes to about $2.40, about $1.20 per serving... Even cheaper then the Merrick pouches!! Best part? My cat LOVES IT!! … more

  • Tasty but mostly liquid

    By on

Not that that's all bad esp. for cats who don't drink enough water...the chicken stock like flavor is tasty and the food nutrious but it is a lot of money for a small amount of solid food. For cats who disdain "pate", it is the right solution.

  • A lot of liquid

    By on

Minced or shredded pieces in A LOT of juice. My cats love it, but its not a good value, so I won't be buying again. I actually saved the juice to use to soften another brand of "wet" cat food, so nothing went to waste.

  • So much water!!

    By on

So far, I have not been impressed with this "After Dark" version from Tiki Cat. It's not the same anymore. The first ingredient on this flavor is chicken BROTH! And I measured. It's over 2 ounces. Of basically water. Of course my cats ate it because it tasted good. But I am not paying for water. Please, Tiki Cat, go back to your old formulas. And after I had already cancelled this in my autoship, I just got an email that another flavor of the carnivore variety was no longer available and they switched it to this. Now I have to see what I can still get of the flavors that aren't "After Dark" to make up my autoship.

So, this is Tiki Cat's replacement line for Gourmet Carnivore (GC). It is substantially different from the GC recipes. The bulk of this food is chicken. But it is not the ordinary chicken food that is so ubiquitous. It has great organ cuts of liver, gizzard and heart as well as dark meat and plenty of broth. Each flavor has a featured meat added in after the chicken cuts. While it is not as much red meat that was in the GC recipes, it is enough to make a flavor difference to a cat. My cat absolutely loves this After DARK Chicken & Lamb, while she didn't like the Chicken & Duck so much. I recently brought a can of this food over my neighbor's cats. My cat absolutely loves this After DARK Chicken & Lamb, while she didn't like the Chicken & Duck so much. I recently brought a can of this food over my neighbor's cats. Two of the three who came to the dish, loved this food! The one cat who usually stays hidden, came right out and lapped up most of it. The other older cat finished it off! The 1-year old cat who is used to Fancy Feast (which has artificial flavor added and I suspect has an addictive quality) turned his nose up at it. Not enough data to say definitively that 3 out of 4 cats love this, but I suspect that most cats who like a shredded/chunky texture will love this food. I find this a nice change to the many chicken breast foods that are out there. The chicken heart and liver add so many valuable nutrients. Tiki Cat also gets it right using the chelated minerals which are easier to absorb. For those who have cats with compromised kidneys, the phosphorous content is not bad either. It is 1.20% on a DMB. While it's not a low-phosphorous food, it is lower than the majority of commercial cat foods. It has great moisture content. Every cat I've fed it too immediately laps up the broth! It also is fish-free! Not even fish oil in it! Kudos to Tiki Cat for offering something different. I highly recommend this food. Note that some of the flakes are larger and chunkier and some cats may prefer it mashed up a bit more. The two cats I fed it to yesterday lapped up every last bit, while my cat tends to leave some of the larger pieces over. … more

  • Not for my cat

Too much liquid and not enough meat for the price. Changing back to fancy feast.

  • Expecting more

    By on

I wasn't sure what to expect with this new After Dark food line. This food is mainly shredded chicken in broth with very tiny bits of lamb and organ meats. This is very different from the Gourmet Carnivore line where the pieces of meats very large and very identifiable. I hope this new food is not a replacement of Tiki's Gourmet Carnivore which had better ingredients and was a little less expensive. My cat did like this food and I would order it again. However at this price point I was expecting more! It should not be so hard to find low carb, high protein cat foods that have good ingredients without fish.
