  • My Cats Won't Eat It

    By on

I love the ingredient list of this food, and in general I really like how Tiki cat food looks like people food. But it missed the most important mark- my cats refuse to eat it. Tried a couple cans but they lift their nose and walk away and beg for something else. I wish they'd eat it, it's the exact type of food that I think cats should be eating, but my guys are a bit fussy. If your cats like it, I think this is some of the best/healthiest food you can serve to them.

  • Not much bang for the buck

My cats love this stuff. I thought they might turn their noses up at the quail egg, but that was the first thing they gobbled down. My main complaint is that all flavors of the After Dark line have substantially more water/broth than the regular Tiki Cat canned food and less meat. The large cans are also .5oz smaller. I can get 4 servings out of the regular large 6oz Tiki Cat cans, but I'm lucky to get 2.5 servings out of the 5.5oz After Dark ones - and they're more expensive on top of it.

The cans are half full of water. The food smell disgusting. Cats would not even go near it. All three cats walked away from it.

  • A waste of money

    By on Top 25 Contributor

I didn't expect tiny pieces of shredded chicken that looked dried out and not a lot of it. The quail egg is literally a hard boiled egg sitting on top after being cut in half. It looked awful. I had expected, like they have in other products of theirs, that the egg would have been basically scramble cooked and mixed in with the chicken. The bottom of the can has some grey sludge which is from who knows what. All in all Tiki Cat is off my possible list. 12 cats and not 1 ate any of the food.

  • More like soup

This is an interesting food. It's composition is mostly broth with some shredded meat and HALVES of quail eggs. I was surprised our cats ate the halves as is. But they did seem to like the broth-y-ness, in small quantities. I just don't think this food is good value for what you pay vs what amount of meat you actually get.

  • Seems great!

Lots of help from Chewy chat! I opened the food to slowly switch over to this Tiki. Looks good, smells good. I'm not sure if Baby knows what's best for her, or if she just likes the gravy from her donation food. I will continue to giver her the gravy from the gravy lovers until she will eat something healthy.

  • My whoofers don't approve

    By on

My cats whoof down everything that's served to them. We love TikiCat. Even this, except Jonny wasn't too fond of the hearts-parts. Half a quail egg in each can was quite interesting. It's because of the mess in the litter box afterwards that we won't be ordering this one again.

  • Kitty loves quail eggs

    By on

My kitty goes right for the little egg first every time, he loves this recipe! The bottoms of some of the cans were dented, but not bad enough to have popped open or leak, so we used them and both cats are fine and happy.

Do not introduce your cat to After Dark on its own. My cat was fine with the Tiki Chicken Consomme. After he tried the After Dark Chicken & Quail on its own, he began refusing the healthier white meat versions, such as Tiki Chicken Consomme, Tiki Chicken & Egg, and Tiki Chicken & Salmon. The After Dark's are dark meat, organs, and it comes in a soup so it's very tasty compared to the meatier white meat selections with only a little broth. I tried combining an After Dark with one of the regular white meat selections, but by then, my cat felt like I ruined a good thing. He did not refuse to eat it all together, but he left me most of the white meat to throw away. Meanwhile, this is like Do not introduce your cat to After Dark on its own. But, it means nothing except money down the drain if your cat ends up refusing to eat. … more
