Transition Instructions

The best way to transition to a new food is to switch gradually over the course of 7-10 days. For example, make a mixture that contains 25% of the new food and 75% of the old food and feed that for three days. Then make it 50-50 for three more days, then 75% new food and 25% old food for three more days. If your cat seems comfortable with this progression, you can start feeding 100% new food. If at any time your pet starts vomiting, has loose stools, or appears constipated, slow the rate at which you are switching the food. If problems continue to occur, consult your veterinarian.

My cat ate this slowly and left some in the bowl

    By on

I thought this looked awful in the can and also had a lot of water. It was just mushy small bits of stuff. It looked like it was very small dark fish bits...not what people would eat. He nibbles at it. I don't think I would buy this again. He likes the sea bass better.

    for a kidney-failure cat

    By on

My kidney-failure cat needs low phosphorous low carb and low protein foods, and this one fit the requirements according to my vet. Unfortunately the kidney-failure cat did not care for it (she likes the seabass), but the others in my home did. That includes a cat with IBD who also needs low carbs.

    Broth-y, tasty food.

Consistency: Like the other seafood formulations from the luau line, this is shredded fish in a broth ("consomme"). I have seen other reviews complain about the broth to meat ratio, but to me, this ratio is perfect for cats who like to lap up liquid. At 73 kcal/3 oz can, it's about average for calories among boutique brand cat foods. It's not like your cats will starve if they eat this food. For me, the broth is a bonus, but if you insist that your cat's canned food is packed with meat, this may not be for you. Palatability: My cats loved this! They enthusiastically endorse this food. I will continue buying this in the 6-oz cans to split between my two cats for a meal. … more

    Lots of juice!

    By on

Abbie loves the Tilapia TikiCat. It’s nothing more than fish meat and lots of juice. Great for her mid morning snack! The most recent pack that we got has more skin in it than before, so I pick some of that out before feeding it to Abbie.
