The best way to transition to a new food is to switch gradually over the course of 7-10 days. For example, make a mixture that contains 25% of the new food and 75% of the old food and feed that for three days. Then make it 50-50 for three more days, then 75% new food and 25% old food for three more days. If your cat seems comfortable with this progression, you can start feeding 100% new food. If at any time your pet starts vomiting, has loose stools, or appears constipated, slow the rate at which you are switching the food. If problems continue to occur, consult your veterinarian.
My cat loves all the seafood tiki cat products, so far. It's so weird, I am vegan but I like seeing the sardine chunks in this because I know it is real. It's a little different than seeing shredded chicken or tuna etc. The silver chunks bring me comfort that I'm giving my cat real food. I usually give my cats a can of one of Tiki's sardine recipes (there are a few) once a week. My cat gobbles it right up.
I've had some disappointments with other high-priced wet cat foods, and my vet recommended Tiki Cat, so I've tried some flavors. The brand so far seems to do a great job with quality and consistency. Some flavors are huge hits but not all of them are popular with my cats. This one started out strong and then lost its appeal. I was surprised to see that one ingredient is paprika. Not necessarily unhealthy, just seems weird to give that to cats. Maybe that's what they took a dislike to. I am giving it a "yes" on recommending because I think that many cats would like it and continue to scarf it up, just not mine.
Cats should not eat fish, for many reasons. But I thought I would get a few cans and give him a spoonful in between meals. Nope, he won't eat it. I gave 2 stars because it contains no carbs and it is high in protein. But overall, this is not a good variety to buy. Try their chicken flavors instead.
My cats love this for a special treat. I do break up the cutlets somewhat for the kitty who just wants to lick the fish, maybe not sure what to do with a whole fish!
If your cat is a fish lover, I definitely recommend the sardine cutlets, they have enough sardines and also a thick consomme broth that my cat absolutely loves!!!
I don't think this food is for all cats, but for cats who love it, and I have one, it is their favorite. It has actual sardine chunks, which aren't always eaten, but everything else is.
I ordered this thinking it would be a healthy alternative for my senior male cat; however, the only way he will eat even a little of it at any given time is when it is offered along with one of his proven favorites. Even then will push it around his plate and leave some behind.
Both cats absolutely love this recipe, and the other sardine-based versions in consomme. As others have mentioned, the fish chunks break up easily if the cats aren't a fan of big pieces.
I truly don't understand the complaints about the big chunks of sardine. They are very soft and easily mashed up with a fork. Two seconds. I then add a little water cause my cats like sauce. Some love it; some won't touch it. Tastes vary.
My cats LOVE this food. It’s meat heavy and great for my two obligate carnivores. They especially like the sardine one, which is chunky and full of sardines. Low carbs, and full of moisture. I will continue to buy.
