Feeding Instructions

TOP's pellets are an important part of a complete diet. Feed approximately as much as your bird will consume in a day. Some days birds will eat more than others so the amount will fluctuate. Discard the remainder and feed fresh pellets each day. Consult your avian veterinarian if you have any specific diet related concerns. Although an excellent source of protein, vitamins and minerals, no pellet can provide 100 percent of a bird’s nutritional needs. Please be sure to offer vegetables, fruits, nuts, and some seeds each day for a varied diet.

    Quality pellets

By Jane on Aug 11, 2021

My budgies had already been on Roundybush pellets. It only took a couple of days to get them eating this one. I'm feeding both on opposite days so they have a well rounded diet. I also give them a couple Nutriberries each day as well as fresh veggies. They're active & feathers are looking great.

Healthy addition but still too big for Budgies

By kieraofredwall on Dec 10, 2020

I appreciate the ingredients in these pellets as an addition to my budgies diet, but even this new smaller formula is huge. I don't see a good chance of transitioning budgies on to pellets with this. My budgies are used to a wide variety of different pellets so they accepted these, but the pellets are so big half of them turns to powder from my budgies trying to eat it. If you're trying to transition budgies on to pellets I'd recommend Lafebers finch pellets, they're millet sized and shaped and are easily accepted. The nutritional value of TOP's is great but they need at least one more smaller size. If your budgies are accepting of pellets like mine I'd recommend trying TOP's anyways, I'll use I appreciate the ingredients in these pellets as an addition to my budgies diet, but even this new smaller formula is huge. Healthy but Unpalatable

By CBMorgan on Dec 1, 2020

I think this product is moving us in the right direction as far as quality of bird food - it’s unheated and has no artificial vitamins, lower percentage of fat, etc. - but there are some major disadvantages. I don’t know if it’s the pellet size (TOP’s mini’s are four times the size of Harrison’s fine pellets, and eight times the size of H’s superfine, for example) or if it just tastes too “green” for my budgies (who are not picky eaters at all, btw). The first ingredient is alfalfa after all, then millet, barley and rice as the main food ingredients. This is extremely lacking compared to a wild budgies’ diet. I feed this like a veggie supplement because they will only eat a small amount of it I think this product is moving us in the right direction as far as quality of bird food - it’s unheated and has no artificial vitamins, lower percentage of fat, etc. - but there are some major disadvantages. The first ingredient is alfalfa after all, then millet, barley and rice as the main food ingredients. This is extremely lacking compared to a wild budgies’ diet. I feed this like a veggie supplement because they will only eat a small amount of it if nothing else is available, first thing in the morning when they are hungriest, and I have to leave it there until 10/10:30 when they’ve then eaten most of it. But they clearly don’t like it and complain about it all morning. This could be solely due to size of the pellet, as no smaller size exists beyond the mini (which is supposedly meant for budgie-sized birds), and parrots care a lot for texture. But I also think that alfalfa is not really the ideal first ingredient for a budgie. I would suggest a re-formula with canary seed and a mixed variety of millets as the first ingredients, followed then by alfalfa (as a singular ingredient) and then a wider variety of grains than only barley and rice. The extra greens in the current recipe are great though! So I do like this product as a “green-food” (not to replace fresh veggies of course). Sort of how I have a “green-drink” (powdered in water) every morning - I now do the same for my buds with this food, even if they do complain. But like the package says, this should absolutely not be the only diet, especially for a budgie. I also feed soaked and sprouted seed rinsed with apple cider vinegar water, Harrison’s brand pellets, fresh veg, etc. as the main diet - the pellets are just to fill in the gaps and for variety. I vacuum sealed about 3/4 of this giant bag into two portions when I opened it and keep it in the freezer so it will stay fresh, since I am only using a tablespoon each morning for my 8 budgies. I hope this review is helpful to consumers and perhaps the manufacturer as well- though I will be writing to them personally soon. … more

Fat birds don't like healthy food

By Kath on Aug 24, 2020

I can tell this product is high quality and I was very excited to try it but my birds won't touch it. I have tried grinding it into smaller pieces and mixing with their food to get them to try it, we'll see where that goes. Four stars only because I guess they don't like the taste?
