  • Beware Sizing

I already owned one of these muzzles in a yearling size for my large pony. I liked it - but he kept flipping it off over his nose and the straps were borderline too short (I had them extended out all the way and it barely fit). I'd find him with the whole contraption dangling around his neck, and that made me nervous as heck. So, I ordered the pony sized one from here. While the straps were a lot longer and I was able to get them adjusted to fit him better, the "bucket" part was way too small. He went from not minding it, to yanking it off before I had driven off the farm. I ended up back in the original yearling sized one and rigging a piece of bailing twine straight down from the crown I already owned one of these muzzles in a yearling size for my large pony. I ended up back in the original yearling sized one and rigging a piece of bailing twine straight down from the crown to the front of the muzzle (tried to attached photo but apparently my cell phone photo is too large). And yes, he hates me for it. Long story short is that the sizing on these just stink. They need the pony sized straps on the yearling sized muzzle! I'm now stuck with a pony sized muzzle that doesn't fit my pony. Splain that one! The other thing I find it necessary to mention is the sub-par velcro straps. I'd get to the barn and find it almost completely undone. I had to duct tape it to keep it closed. So, my fancy little show pony is looking pretty ghetto in his bailing twine and duct taped, ill-fitting muzzle! … more

  • Easy Breath Grazing Muzzle

We were trying to slow down his eating rate but when we received this item we realized the same thing that makes it very well constructed also makes it very heavy for him. Maybe some horses are large enough to handle it but ours would rub a place on his nose in a day. Thanks but I think the basket that attaches to his halter might be a better way to go. So while we recommend it for some just not for ours.

  • foundering pony

Spring time can be very hard with a pony that has previously foundered. We cut back his grazing area in his pasture, but when my 4 year old takes him out for a walk, or a ride he can take advantage of her... not anymore. this has really helped her gain her control back. he doesn't pull her over his neck when she is riding anymore. He also doesn't pull her along for walks. He is back to being our polite pony. (he also used to be cinchy, and not on purpose this has fixed that issue as well). It has made for a happier rider, and a much less stressed out momma afraid he was going to graze to much while she was riding.

  • Most comfortable muzzle

This muzzle is the best we have tried for our pony, who has a hard time breathing with the others if he gallops around. He is a Houdini, and we have not found one he does not get off his head. I make a sturdy braid behind his bridle path, and loop a piece of Velcro strap through the braid and around the crown piece of the muzzle. This works, although he sometimes gets it off one ear.

  • Didn't Hold Up

    By on

I liked the design of this muzzle and ordered two for our part time pasture horses two months ago. One muzzle is holding up ok but have to agree with a previous poster that the basket where the hole is, has worn away. I'm concerned that my horse may swallow a piece of the rubber or whatever that material in the basket is made from. It could also pinch as it is torn in one corner so I'm pitching it. I have an old back up which is just the round hole so using that for now. I can not say I would recommend this product at this time.

  • Wonderful strong grazing muzzle

    By on

My farrier suggested a grazing muzzle for my fat donkey. After doing research the Tough1 seemed to shine above the rest. And it sure does. Rosie wears it all day long while she "grazes" in the pasture. She has already lost some weight. And she doesn't even fuss when its put on her.

  • They get the job done!

    By on

Like the headline states, they get the job done. My horses do not like them at all and try to get them off first thing. I understand that is the nature of the beast right now, but I found them hard to adjust initially...

  • Perfect fit!!

This winter, I bought this for a horse that kept biting my horse while out in the pasture leaving small holes in his winter blanket. Now I no longer have to worry about that problem!!

  • Best Grazing Muzzle!!

    By on

I got this muzzle because the "bucket" type one I previously purchased seemed to be uncomfortable for my mare and overly hot. It sounded like she couldn't breathe well in it. A friend recommended the Tough 1 muzzle as it was better ventilated. I just got it yesterday and what a difference!! My mare is sooo much happier in this muzzle and no longer tries to scrape it off -- as she WAS doing non-stop with the other muzzle. She's now happy to graze with it on and I know her intake is quite reduced. We'll get weight off her now, for sure!! Definitely will be buying this one again and telling everyone I know about how awesome this grazing muzzle is!!
