Don't let the fact that it looks like a lost TV remote battery cover put you off, it is actually good quality. Honestly, I bet the only reason this isn't the only brand people like is because it looks like it fell of a piece of office furniture. I had a whistle for years and now I realize it was a total waste of time and money. I take my friends dogs on hikes and they also have whistles and their stats would be a mile different and the map tracker was a mess. One dog would have the path we walked, one dog would show a triangle, and the third dog was marked at home. Tractive is awesome. When I walk my dog on a leash it shows the exact same thing as my brand new apple watch. I'm really excited about it. I also got to see some dogs I recognize in my neighborhood in the stats which is fun! The app is great its super intuitive and has all kinds of great info, and theres like a little dog social media section which is super cute. Plus you don't have to buy a stupid ugly collar for $50 that weighs 2lb! You can use your own.
We live in the mountains and have very little cellular coverage. I was hoping the satellite coverage would work , but is does not. The lights on the unit indicate that GPS has coverage but I can not get any information on the app until we are in an area with cellular coverage. As soon as we drive to where we have cellular coverage Tractive works great. However I am returning because the GPS does not give any coverage. My phone can pinpoint exactly where I am but Tractive does not.
I bought two of these for my granddogs since my daughter and her boyfriend travel with their two dogs just about everywhere they go. Pros: - They fit easily on the collars, but I wouldn't attempt fitting it on a collar that's over one inch wide and I feel like it would slip around on collars that are less than one inch (for smaller dogs) - The app is so user friendly and I like that she could add multiple users to the same account so I can watch for them, her boyfriend can have the app, and of course she can. We loved that feature. -The app also is supposed to keep track of health/activity but it's not the most polished feature. -overall it tracks really well and has a longer battery life than most other trackers so we are pleased with that -even though its a little larger than we would like, it does the job - allows you to set your home on battery saving using wifi which helps extend battery life Cons: - the charging is super finicky and it doesn't plug in easily- its a magnetic connector and its just not 100% secure all the time. -It isn't "hard to spot" and this is something we aren't a fan of because the breeds she has are very desirable and one of them was a rescue that had been previously stolen from the first owner. -even though the monthly fee is relatively inexpensive, it would be cool to have a bundle offer for folks with multiple pets. Other trackers offered this but I chose this simply for the longer battery life.
If you know the breed you know how important it is to know where your beagle is. Wilma's will maniacally track deer, bunnies, and whatever else her nose detects. She recently crossed a main road in pursuit. It was heart wrenching to realize she'd left the woods. Now, I can track where she is in real time when we're in the park off leash.
You have to buy the subscription with it. Which I read in the reviews before I bought it and thought it would be fine I would just pay monthly. NO! THEY MAKE YOU PAY IT ALL UP FRONT! You have to buy a year to 5 years of this subscription and I believe the cheapest package is 179! No thanks goodbye
I do recommend this product. Easy to utilize app, which is required apart from the tracker. My cat did get lost but thankfully we were reunited and so far the tracker works great this time around.
I have had 1 tracker for almost 2 years and a second for about a year. Bottomline - they do not work as advertised and the customer service isnt' very good. Neither tracker can last more than about 36 hours on a charge. Customer service says to turn on the WIFI enabled track, but that doesn't allow you to do live tracking. Our WIFI is boosted to support operations in the adjacent shop. But that coverage area near the house goes into the woods where both dogs find and track deer. SInce I can't use the live track I should be getting updates every 15 minutes. Well, sometimes the first update I get that they have left the virtual fence comes after they are safe and at home. Again customer service gives me a soft answer - maybe you have bad coverage in your area. Ok - not every 15 minutes for the update but how about within an hour? I get alerts all the time multiple hours after the dogs are back at home. The best this gives you in terms of location is a relative bearing. Charging cable is extremely short and is magnetically attached - countless times I have put it on charge just to realize it disconnected. The attachments have failed on both devices - they are now duct taped to the collars. This device doesn't work in a wooded area - maybe a wide open neighborhood but don't count on it telling you which neighbors yard your dog has run to, only that they went that-a-way.
Works incredible for tracking and battery life is weeks at a time. I had a Whistle and switched to this because the whistle would always fail at tracking, which is the primary purpose. Bluetooth and app work flawlessly. Best tracker, hands down.
I got this brand two years ago for my puppy bc it was inexpensive. It was boxy, I had to charge it daily, and was hard to get on and off the collar to charge. They listened to all the comments and this new design is awesome! Very sleek and blends with the collar. The new fastener is rubber which makes it fit all sizes of collars. The best part? Charge lasts three days, even with lots of movement. The updated app I'd the cherry on top. Loved the new design for my puppy so got a new one for my adult pup. So happy with this product!
My very adventurous indoor/outdoor city cat went missing for six days -- that was way too much heartache for me and I got this collar the next day. It arrived very quickly and the activation and sync was seamless. I was worried it would be too big for her, especially since she is quite petite (maybe 7 lbs on after a big meal), but it doesn't seem to bother her at all. She uses it as a chin rest sometimes. It gives me quite an accurate map of her activity and huge peace of mind knowing I can go retrieve her if needed. The local leaderboard of other active cats is hilarious. I live in a city so that might help with signal -- a friend in the countryside did not have great luck with similar collars. Sometimes the GPS jumps and her path is not quite accurate, which is why I docked a star. Like it will show that she suddenly ran a block down when I don't think she did, I just think that's how the signal pinged.
