When I first adopted my dog she was beyond anxious. When she wasn't hiding in the bathroom she was literally trying to climb the walls. She was trying to fit under furniture she didn't actually fit under, up-ending side tables and chairs. When I took her to the vet, she gator rolled 2 vet techs who were trying to hold her still. She was just so scared. All the time. The vet put her on trazodone; 100mg 2x a day. While the pills helped in the moment immediately to ease her fear, after about a week or so, it was like I had a completely different dog. She still runs to hide in the bathroom when she hears loud noises, but she she's not trying to claw her way up the walls, and she's not turning over all the furniture. The vet asked if I noticed my dog being knocked out during the day, like if the meds just made her too sleepy to panic, but that's not what I've seen at all. She's just a calmer dog. She's been taking the 200mg every day since and she's doing great.
After getting this med at my vet's and realizing the price had more than doubled, I checked Chewy's pharmacy. I was able to get it for about one fifth the price of my vet. Horray!
Our 15 year old dog suffers from sundowners syndrome and becomes very agitated and anxious at night. Trazodone has really help calm her down and also helps her to sleep better.
This is a lifesaver! It's getting harder and harder to buy meds for the humans and the pets in our family, and this was a nice surprise!
I appreciate having a generic alternative. It is not only as effective as the name brand but also easier on the wallet.
We transferred our dog's existing script to Chewy for convenience (vs. picking it up once a month from them). His anxiety was very well managed. Exact same prescription, exact same dosage - but the Chewy formula didn't work at all! We had three days of using it and an increasingly upset dog before frantically calling our vet to get a replacement from them. 24 hours later, no other changes at all besides the vet's pills vs. Chewy's, and everything was back to normal. I did notice the pills were slightly larger than the ones our vet gave us, so I think it must be a different generic formula that just doesn't work for our dog. Please be aware of this possibility when switching pharmacies!
Chewy is always prompt and great! They contacted my vet and took care of everything for me
This is by far the best product I would ever recommend for my highly stressed pit! There is nothing that doesn’t scare her and cause her to go into full blown panic mode! We just recently moved into a new home and she went into full destruction ruining 2 of our couch cushions that we just bought the night before, then started using this and we haven’t had any issues with panic or anxiety or even her freaking out when I’m not in the same room as her! She only gets 2 pills every few weeks depending on if there’s going to be a rain storm or fireworks that night, then she will get 2 if needed. She refuses to take the pills, but if I crush them up with the back of a spoon and mix them with whipped cream she has no problems!
We came across trazodone for my dog, "accidentally"...after she ended up at the emergency vet for a tear she received during daycare...they prescribed her trazodone as she is a 65 pound CRAZY ENERGETIC 2 year old black lab...seriously, her energy can be off the charts! If we're awake, she thinks it's playtime. all.day.long... Anyways, they gave it to me to keep her calm as to not disturb the stitches as she wasn't allowed to jump or play or run for 2 weeks!!! I've actually taken Trazodone before for myself, for sleep issues and always loved it when I took it. We've had our pup, Olive, for about 8 months now and since coming to be with us, her energy, sometimes, can be a lot to handle... We also have a 6 year old lab who is not as energetic (although he has his moments!) They do love to play together, but he'd rather lay on the couch all day until it's time to go to the park. I do work from home and she would sit here barking at me while I am working, hindering my work, making me frustrated and angry. :( (c'mon I'm human!) I want to play with her, but I just can't because - I'm working. I try to take her to the dog park, daily, to release her energy, but that's usually not until after I get off work...otherwise I try to take her on a walk in the mornings...but that's just not enough for her. So when trazodone came into our lives...seriously. This stuff is a god-send. I asked our vet about keeping her on this, daily, to help with her anxiety and barking ... and she immediately agreed that it would be a great idea and safe to do! I will add, we HAVE put her through obedience training, which has helped, but obedience training isn't BEHAVIORAL training...(which we are looking into) And I also take her to day care on Fridays so that she can have all day to play with other dogs... So the pill is 5mg per kg of weight which for her ends up being 136 mg per dose... I have quickly learned she doesn't even need that much! I give her 1 - 50mg pill daily (more like 4 out of 7 days/week) and she is so much calmer and happy during the day while I work! I'm so happy that I can get it easily through Chewy!
Works well but takes 2-3 hours to kick in. 14 year old dog responded well.
