We do like this crate overall, having upgraded from an all-metal model It took over an hour to assemble, but that was with one person-- I expect it would be easier with 2 (as the instructions recommend). Some of the pieces are quite heavy. The reason for knocking off 1 star is the front latch. The design itself is not ideal, plus the pre-drilled holes have it slightly misaligned. The result is that it is quite difficult to lock and unlock, and our kids, who help with the dogs, are unable to operate it.
These are beautiful, but by the time they were in use for 6 months, they were held together with loc-tite and hope. I have two. The latch hardware failed on both. The screws that hold the door hinges all stripped. I’m constantly supergluing them back together. My dogs weigh between 3 and 12 pounds, so it’s not as though we’re hard on them. For the first time ever, I didn’t get a response from Chewy when I emailed with the issues. At $250 a piece, they are absolutely not worth it.
this is such a beautiful crate. fits in beautifully with the furniture! I even have a lamp on top and a basket! It is large for a 4 lb dog, but it gives her lots of space to roam!
We ordered the medium size dog crate for our 22 lb cocker spaniel. It is well made and relatively easy to assemble. The bed included was basic fleece with bolsters on each side. We replaced it with a foam bed.
Received the cage promptly. This cage looks very elegant, however is very poorly made. The cage is made with partical board and chips very easyly. The hardware used for the latch has malfunctions. I’ve only owned the dog cage for one week and the thing is falling apart. Chewy has great customer service and an awesome return policy, therefore the 3 stars.
I had to have a kennel for the new puppy but was not okay with a big metal cage in the middle of the room. I looked at all kinds of kennels that function as furniture and narrowed it down to a few. This one won out in the end and I am very happy with it. I had to buy the large one and it is about four inches taller than an end table should be but otherwise is lovely. Contrary to many of the other reviews, I found it a snap to put together by myself in under two hours with only one maybe two curse words let loose. I will admit however that I love putting furniture together. It's a giant 3-D puzzle. The instructions are clearly not written by natural English speakers and at least one entirely essential step was omitted completely - by the time you get to that step however it is clear what needs to happen next. Still, if you don't enjoy this sort of thing that could be a real set back. I find it completely sturdy and my puppy can not do any damage to it. I was lucky to have each piece in very good shape and holes predrilled in the correct places with all of the appropriate items neatly packaged and labeled. If I didn't have to get such a tall one, you would never know that the large end table between my sofa loveseat was a kennel at all.
My teenage son, upon being tasked with putting this together, asked me, “Did you read any reviews?” I sheepishly admitted I had not. To help others, let me warn you that not only does this arrive in pieces, but they may be nicked, as some of the nice dark wood had chips out of it. I figure the dogs won’t care, but this thing is expensive and it’s supposed to be a piece of furniture. Worse than that though, the inner door latch (which has to be screwed on with little tiny screws) is supposed to match up to little dots on the doors and the doors were completely misaligned, upside down from each other in direct opposition to the diagram. Sigh. My son the hero was able to solve this by taking off both doors and realigning, but I was pretty dissatisfied. I called and the very nice representative gave me a partial refund. I think that is fair because I am keeping the crate and it does work and look nice. Happily, the dogs like it!
I bought this crate because I loved how it looked in my house and it matched everything. However, after only having it for one month my 12 week old puppy has already chewed through part of it and I am not happy at all with the quality of this product. It was very expensive to become destroyed in exactly one months time.
I bought the large version of this for our 4 mo old Glodendoodle puppy. He is standard size, so pretty big already, and likes to stretch out when he sleeps. He Is not a crate fan, so it was a big deal when he got into it right away! He can stand up in it and also stretch out, giving him plenty of room as he grows. Its also great looking, I hope it holds up. I love that the doors can go on either end, and it was pretty easy to put together with just me. It was pricey, but Im ok with it if it lasts and he likes it!
I really love the crates and my daughter wanted a set for her two dogs. Her apartment is small, Also this helps her as a end table or coffee table. I bought two because my dogs were in black wire dog cage since they were small. They are in a hallway which I wanted a little glam. I brought ceilings fixtures with a dimmer put the crates under my table in the hall. It looks a great. The dogs love them too!
