Vetoryl Capsules contain an adrenosuppressant drug that is used to treat hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. Vetoryl Capsules are a prescription drug for dogs.
Hyperadrenocorticism (also known as Cushing’s disease) is a condition in which excess levels of the hormone cortisol are produced. Cortisol is normally released from the adrenal gland into the bloodstream at times of stress. In dogs with hyperadrenocorticism, the level of cortisol produced is excessive and, if left untreated, becomes incapacitating.
Characteristic signs are:
Your dog may not necessarily display all of these signs.
Periodic follow-up and laboratory testing are important for continual safe use of Vetoryl Capsules. Talk with your veterinarian about how often your dog will need to be examined.
Talk to your veterinarian about:
Tell your veterinarian if your dog has ever had the following medical problems:
Tell your veterinarian about:
Vetoryl Capsules, like other drugs, may cause some side effects. Serious side effects have been reported in dogs taking Vetoryl Capsules. Serious side effects can occur with or without warning and result in death.
Side effects generally involve an over suppression of the adrenal glands (hypoadrenocorticism, also known as Addison’s Disease). Look for the following side effects that may indicate your dog is having a problem with Vetoryl Capsules or may have another medical problem:
It is important to stop therapy and contact your veterinarian immediately if you think your dog has a medical problem or side effect from Vetoryl Capsule therapy. If you have additional questions about possible side effects, talk to your veterinarian.
As Vetoryl Capsules control the hyperadrenocorticism, there should be a decrease in food and water consumption to normal levels. There should also be resolution of excess urination. If, however, there is a dramatic decrease in appetite or your dog stops drinking water, it could be an indication of a side effect requiring treatment.
Although Vetoryl Capsules ARE NOT A CURE for hyperadrenocorticism, the product can control the clinical signs:
Your dog should not be given Vetoryl Capsules if he/she:
Tell your veterinarian about all medicines you have given your dog in the past, and any medicines that you are planning to give with Vetoryl Capsules. This should include other medicines that you can get without a prescription. Your veterinarian may want to check that all of your dog's medicines can be given together.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog takes more than the prescribed amount of Vetoryl Capsules.
This sheet provides a summary of information about Vetoryl Capsules. If you have any questions or concerns about Vetoryl Capsules or hyperadrenocorticism, talk to your veterinarian.
As with all prescribed medicines, Vetoryl Capsules should only be given to the dog for which it was prescribed.
It is important to periodically discuss your dog's response to Vetoryl Capsules at regular checkups. Your veterinarian will determine if your dog is responding as expected and if your dog should continue receiving Vetoryl Capsules.
Boxcar was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease last month. He wasn’t himself and was overeating and drinking a lot. He had no interest in anything except sleep. His expression was vacant when he looked at us. It was heartbreaking. After 4 weeks on Vetoryl, he is much more himself, his eating and drinking habits are back to normal, and his test results came back in perfect range. There will be adjustments in the future, I’m sure, but this is an amazing start!
I was detained in a different state because of a medical emergency. I had only brought enough Vetoryl for our dog for the time period I intended to stay. I asked my veterinarian the quickest most efficient way to get more medicine shipped, and he told me Chewy.com. The order was placed, my vet approved the order and I called Chewy customer service just to let them know that I needed the medication as soon as possible. The customer service representative was friendly, professional and extremely helpful in making sure my order got expedited. A day and a half later, the medication was delivered! Bravo Chewy.com for compassionate, professional and prompt customer service.
My dog is a 10 year old pitbull mix and he was recently diagnosed with Cushing's disease. Within a week of taking this medication, his symptoms have significantly decreased and it's given him a better quality of life! Thank God for this medicine!
I needed to speak with a customer service rep before I placed my order. She was very helpful directing me how to place the order. She also asked me how my dog was feeling. I thought that was very kind. I placed the order and it was delivered to my home 3 dats later. Very satisfied
Cheaper than from the vet's office and from the convenience of your home. They get the vet's approval and shipped quickly. By making it auto-shipped I don't have to worry about running out.
My girl recently came down with Cushings disease. After extensive and costly testing it was determined that she needed to go on Vetoryl capsules for the remainder of her life. I shopped the various pet medication sites and found Chewy offered exactly what I needed for about 20% less than the veterinary pharmacy or other pet meds sites. I ordered what I needed and Chewy took care of the rest including contacting my vet for the prescription. Now I get in the mail just what I need every month. I am saving money, time and hassle. Awesome!
Unfortunately my dog is on this med but Chewy came through as always getting it to us in the most expedient manner.
I recently got a Cushing's diagnosis, and my vet started my robust 18lb self on 10mg. After 1 month of treatment I'm feeling better, don't feel constantly hungry and thirsty, and don't have nearly as many unplanned bathroom breaks. I do feel a little weaker in the back legs, so I have to be a bit more circumspect on how fast I go up or down stairs. The cost is a little shocking, and while my human companions grit their teeth and pay up... I'm digging up other options. Vetoryl is a brand name drug for trilostane. Looking at local Compounding Pharmacies, I found a few options that let me get 10mg of trilostane in capsule (or liquid in some places), for around half the cost. Even more convenient? This Chewy pharmacy ALSO has "Trilostane Compounded Capsules"... in a very wide variety of strengths, for a much lower price than the brand name. Autoship is also available. Talk with your veterinarian and see if this might be a good option for you and your human!
Chewy's Vet Med site had 2 advantages over my local DVM..the Vetoryl on line is 40% less expensive and is "in stock" ; my Vet only had 1 month's worth available, waiting for their resupply. Exact same product....
Chewy is great to work with and this med has finally helped Molly to be less stressed and anxious. Getting old is not easy.
