These used to be different and they've changed the recipe and now my kitty won't touch them. I noticed when I opened them they smelled quite a lot different from the previous bags I bought last fall when my cat's herpes flared up. He, apparently, agrees and doesn't want anything to do with them. To their credit, Chewy was quick to fix the problem but the product itself has changed which is sad. Even more so because the other lysine product I swear by seems to be discontinued completely.
I hope the company changes the formula back to the original one. My cat has eaten these for 9 years now. But the last couple of bags he will no longer eat them. They also have a different smell to them. If they go back to original formula I will buy them again for sure. But I can't keep trying bag after bag. Chewy is great as they sent me this last bag for free but once again my cat will not touch it.
I gave these to my young 5 week old kitten per recommendation of my vet, they gave him diarrhea. I stopped. I still had them when a sick feral became part of our family. They seemed to help him, but he had severe diarrhea for months. I had him on 3 different meds thinking he had some weird things going on. Vet could not find anything And I was on verge of spending $150 for testing. Then I took him off everything and he got better...finally! So I gave him a few weeks and his runny eyes started again. So I gave him a low dose of the Lysine, 1 twice daily. Well, the diarrhea is back. I can't help think these are the culprit. I will be throwing them in the trash. Really hoped they would help him...they actually seemed to, except for the diarrhea...severe. so not worth it.
These have great reviews and were recommended by my vet for our 3 cats, since one is for sure positive for feline herpesvirus. I opened the package and the majority of the treats were stuck/smashed together. Maybe that's normal but it was a good solid chunk. ? Regardless, none of the kitties wanted to eat them. I even broke them up in smaller pieces hoping it would smell better and they'd try them. Nope. I'm sure it's a good product, but we will never know.
One cat has Feline Herpes Virus and Lysine Plus keeps her nose from running and her eyes from watering. She loves the flavor.
I got these for my cats asthma and she will not eat these at all. They must smell bad or something. I even tried breaking them up in pieces and she still won’t eat them and she’s not a picky cat.
I was so excited to get these in as my vet recommended these for my cattery. So since I have 12 cats I purchased the biggest count. Unfortunately only 2 of them will willingly eat these treats. The rest have to be grounded up and mix into their wet food.
Two of my three Siberians need lysine immune support, and I have been adding a powder to their wet food. I thought the treats would be easier (if more expensive per dose) and bought these in a recommendation of a friend who's cats love this brand. None of my 3 would touch these, over a week long period of offering them :( big miss on this product for us!
Have used for 5 years and my cat is no longer interested. They are hard and smell awful now. I have to cut them up and hide them in food.
As others have mentioned in these reviews, they changed the formula on these, they smell funny and my cats won't eat them. Chewy is so great! They refunded my money and asked that I just donate the treats or give them to someone with cat(s). I didn't have to return them!
