My dog will remind me with a nose bump if I forget to brush her teeth - she especially likes the seafood flavor but she likes them all.
My vet always recommended enzymatic toothpaste and I finally found it on Chewy. My dogs always hated the gel and mint paste you get at the pet store, but they LOVE this stuff. Only tried the chicken so far, but I’m sure they’ll love every flavor. I’ve noticed a slight improvement so far, both dogs are seniors so it’s been a struggle to get their teeth clean with their thin patience. Their breath is better and their gums don’t bleed anymore like they used to. Here’s hoping they keep getting better!
I have a baby-sized toothbrush that I use to brush my 14 year old chihuahua's teeth every day. She has heart issues and we all know oral health contributes to heart health so we've made it as much of a priority as supplying her cardio meds. Our previous vet recommended CET brand chews and toothpaste so we've stuck with their products for years. My little chi won't go to bed at night without ensuring we have included her routine brushing with CET toothpaste. Our current vet is thrilled with her oral health. She said her gums are in good health and she has low tartar. The enzymes help even when I can't reach every spot. My other, larger dogs have never tolerated toothbrushes or try to eat them so I just spread a small amount of this toothpaste on one of their CET veggie chews or a Whimzees chew. After just a week, his molars look great after daily use of toothpaste smeared on a chew. They get the benefit of the paste's enzymes and seem to love the added flavor. He is now as demanding as our chihuahua for their nightly dental routine! I even use a small amount on my finger as an occasional training treat. We just picked up a new foster beagle and his molars were coated in green tartar.
I don't know what this, but the other flavor that came with it is as expected, toothpaste. My animals don't like it all. What a waste of money.
Careful where you store this. Tastes too good and my cat got into it as if it were treats. Woke up to the tube bitten up.
IMHO, this "paste" is not the best way to protect a cat's teeth, and as an RN, I wonder about my pet swallowing most of it. Human toothpaste has a warning to not swallow any. In Washington state the VET recommended a 16 oz ( ?) Salmon flavor liquid gel for cleaning their teeth which I liked much better. However, I plan to look for a baby's toothbrush to try with the paste to see if that works better for my cats.
