My cat is not a big water drinker, so I'm concerned about feeding this as a strictly dry diet. I know it says they can be reydrated with water, but how much do you add and is it enough to give my cat sufficient moisture in her diet so she doesn't get dehydrated?
Answer by ChewyMay 17, 2019
This formula is meant to be fed as a complete meal. If your pet rarely uses the water bowl, choose the option of adding water to help balance out moisture intake. On average, adding 1/2-1 tablespoon of water is needed to rehydrate food.

I’ve never seen cats, wild or tame, eat bones. What nutritional justification supports bone in the food? Muscles and organs are sufficient. And what of the feathers? Is Chewy sure no feathers are included in the patties?
Answer by ChewyMar 19, 2021
Vital Essentials uses the Alpha Prey Model diet consisting of 45% muscle meat, 45% organs and 10% bone content. Vital Essentials uses only fresh, whole, single-sourced USDA animal proteins. They do not use grains (corn, rice), fillers, artificial preservatives, or rendered by-products.

The tubs were 10.5oz, the new bags are 8oz. How many patties are in the new bags?
Answer by ChewyMar 25, 2019
While the patties are going to be packaged based on weight, there may be close to 13-14 mini patties per 8 ounce bag.

If I am going from one brand of Raw Foods to another brand, do I still need to slowly transition the food?
Answer by ChewyJan 14, 2019
Typically, once a pet has effectively transitioned to a raw food diet, most pets can rotate between formulas without issue.

The Royals Approve!

I have 4 very picky cats who will turn their noses up for almost any reason, up to and including "proper food presentation". They LOOOOVE this stuff. They forget etiquette and turn into little velociratpors at every feeding. It did take a few shipments to get the correct feeding portions down as well as how to prepare it (crumbled dry or crumbled wet). They all prefer cumblet wet, warmer the water the better absorbtion. Yes, it can come crumbled, but once you get a visual for portions size, it's not so bad. Having the comfort of species appropriate food with no fillers and their litter boxes not smelling like they killed a herd of diseased Buffalo...is a win in my book.

Definitely don't recommend

So just crumbled some up and mixed with water. The smell is extremely awful, it barely absorbed water even after soaking for almost 10 minutes, out of 5 cats who will east mostly anything only 2 readily ate and 1 showed interest. Well.... just followed one around as she vomited up everything she could over 5 times that I finally had to put her in my bathroom to contain it. So disgusting! Maybe I'll chop up for treats??? But probably not because it smells so strong and bad. Don't waste the money.

Larger than expected!

We were pleasantly surprised by the amount that you get in this bag and the size of the patties. Our cat is VERY picky and loves these. We feed them dry and just break them up.

It's all my picky eaters want to eat!

Started out using as a topper on wet food they decided not to eat any more. Worked great. Now they don't want anything but crumbled patty! They got the door to pantry open one day & found them pulling the bag out of the kitty food storage basket! They love Vital Cat patties & freeze dried chicken treats!

Freeze-dried Chicken Patties

The patties are easy to break-up. Takes a bit of time to rehydrate. My cat likes them.

not chicken? but it’s beef and chicken?

I been purchasing couple bag of these on chewy now and this time around that I bough chicken is for sure not the same color of texture or smell for the chicken Patties. Instead I think they put in wrong ones like beef and chickens. Because this time the Patty are much darker and have the same texture as the beef and chicken one I bought before. My cats do like the chicken ones but this one is forsure that put in the wrong bag. Kinda sad

cats didnt like but believe to be a good product

Unfortunately my cats just wouldnt eat this so I couldn't give it higher stars. It is however a highly recommended food by a trusted pet health care professional, so it's probably worth a try. I hope to try a different protein source to see if they will eat.

Cat loves them, but they don't love her back

My cat loves these! Unfortunately, they make her vomit. Every time, within an hour of eating, she barfs it all back up. I have no idea why- she has no issues with the pork patties, I don't see any noticeably undigested chunks coming up, we make sure to rehydrate the patties with plenty of warm water before serving...I'm stumped. Hopefully no one else is having this issue and my cat is just weird. Regardless, we won't buy the chicken patties again.
