Preparation: Freeze - Dried Mini Patties can be fed as is or rehydrated with warm water. After adding water, let sit for a few minutes and then serve.

To maximize freshness, do not break original seal until ready to use. Remove as much air as possible when closing zipper and store in cool, dark place. Best if fed within 30 days of opening.

Transition Instructions

Switch to a purely raw diet slowly. Some pets may take to raw immediately, while others may take longer because they are hooked on the added flavorings in traditional pet food. Take at least 10 days to 2 weeks to gradually transition your pets diet. This gives the digestive system time to adjust to the new food.

    Bone heavy

By Nana on Oct 13, 2021

The chicken Patties are the least favorite flavor for my cats out of all of VE’s protein choices. It (amongst other proteins) all contains small sharp bones so do be careful when crumbling they apart.

    Foster and resident approved

    By Lissla on Oct 24, 2021 top250Contributor

My foster kittens love this stuff as well as one of my newer resident kittens. One patty does the trick for those hungry, growing kitties

new formula- does it still include bone?!

By HannahandHerCats on May 13, 2021

Very disappointed in VE for changing their formula, and disappointed with Chewy as well for not updating the information on their site. This brand has been my go-to for almost a year, if not more. VE changed their formula with no explanation to their customers, and now the packaging no longer states whether it includes ground bone. I made another small purchase for now because I am having a hard time finding anything comparable to the original VE formula in freeze-dried form, but once I do I will likely no longer purchase VE. It’s a shame, I was recommending them to everyone I know and now I don’t feel confident doing so or even feeding VE to my cats with the synthetic mineral complexes added Very disappointed in VE for changing their formula, and disappointed with Chewy as well for not updating the information on their site. I can only assume their meat is no longer high quality and they had to change to something of lesser quality, meaning they now have to add the mineral complexes. Tip: if you want to see the updated ingredient information, click on the picture of the back of the package and enlarge it. THAT is what you are now getting, NOT the ingredients Chewy states, at least until they update their site. I was previously very confident in Chewy and Vital Essentials. Sigh... I guess all good things come to an end. … more

    beware of the "new" formula

By Santosha on Apr 24, 2021

first - vital essentials changed the formula from something that my cat loved to something filled with synthetic vitamins and other fillers - ie cheaper and lower quality ingredients for the same outrageous high price. i do not mind paying for quality, but i won't pay for junk - so i'm off to find another alternative {chewy doesn't have anything comparable, so i'll look elsewhere}. second - after contacting chewy twice {verbally and in writing} about the ingredient listing not being updated, i see it still isn't, so i'm writing my review. cats oftentimes have sensitive tummies and a change in ingredients can make a huge difference in their digestion and elimination.

Now They Fail the Sniff Test

By MomOfAmber on May 3, 2021

My picky former outdoor cat Amber loved the older Chicken Entree round patties. I thought I was buying the same thing, but ended up with a bag of the new formula Chicken Dinner Patties, now without the goat milk and with some mineral chelates. She barely sniffed at the new patties. I called Vital Essentials on Friday, and left a message, as no one answers the phone. 24 hrs and I haven’t received a call back. Now Amber is getting kibble for lunch until I can find something better that she’ll eat.

    Happy about this purchase

By catlover on Jul 1, 2021

My cats like this food. They are picky eaters, hard to find something they both like. Pricey but I will keep buying it as long as they like it.

    My cat didn't like this

By HelloWorld on Aug 11, 2021

Opened the bag and my cat just smelled it, then walked away. Even didn't want to try it.

    Why did the formula change

By Nancy on May 27, 2021

They changed the formula and didn't tell anyone. I think that is sneaky. If I had known they removed the bone, chicken egg and goat's milk, I would not have purchased it. How do I know this formula is better for my cat's health or the company's bottom-line?

    Beware of new formula

By Kayla on Apr 27, 2021

If you have used this product in the past, make note that the formula has changed. Your pet needs to be transitioned to the new formula. It is not just a “new look” but new ingredients. I had to contact Vital Essentials to find out because the information is not upfront. My cat did not react well to it, and I had to switch to something different.

    Awful new formula

By Rebecca on Apr 13, 2021

Look closely friends. The package and the bags look very similar. But they have revamped the ingredients. There is less protein now and no longer any goats milk. The patties are how square instead of round. The name has changed from Chicken Entree to Chicken Dinner. My cats used tobe so enthusiastic about these. No longer! Will be looking for a new brand. Very annoyed.
