Why no taurine listed? Cats really need the supplement taurine to be healthy
Answer by ChewyFeb 28, 2018
Taurine is a naturally occurring amino acid mostly found in muscle meat and organs like heart, kidney and liver and in seafood. Since this product contains Finely Ground Duck With Bone, Duck Heart, Duck Liver and Duckgizzard a taurine supplement isn't needed.

What is the carb percentage on dry basis?
Answer by ChewyJan 04, 2021
Due to the fact that Vital Essentials entrees do not contain any fruits, vegetables, or grains; there is less than 1% carbohydrate content. This small amount of carbohydrates is naturally occurring from animal tissues.

I don’t see ground bone or bonemeal on the ingredient list. What’s the source of calcium?
Answer by ChewySep 11, 2021
This food is made with whole meat, organs and bones.

Is this ok to feed to kittens?

Scary dangerous big chunks of bone -- not edible

Over the last few months, the duck patties have contained giant scary chunks of bone. The food used to be pretty ground up, then pressed into patties, no big chunks of anything. Now, the meat is the same, but (I can't say it enough) BIG scary chunks of bone. I first noticed the problem, hearing my boys crunching something...they grimace and look like they're in pain trying to eat. The manufacturer should really address this situation.

One of the best brands available

This is a staple of our cats' menu. One of the top brands for ingredient profile and protein quality and ++made in USA. Cats absolutely devour it.

My cat vomit twice

Ragdoll. Everything's normal. Never vomit before. Really bizarre. Don't recommend this product.

Sharp sharp bones

I know VE include bones in their products. It was totally fine with me until I found FOUR pieces of bones in ONE patty. One was larger than my fingernail and it was very sharp that I felt it cut my finger as I break the patty into pieces. Will not buy this flavor again. For those who feed freeze dried, please watch for large pieces of bones!

Best Cat Food

My cat Aspen wasn’t a huge fan of chicken or turkey, but he loves this stuff. He reminds me exactly when meal times are everyday. I add some water to it but he wouldn’t care either way.

The verdict is unanimous

Nothing I do can convince any of my 6 cats to ingest ANY of this duck. They love duck in other manifestations. Not this one. I also found it very difficult to thoroughly moisten a patty. Little areas of dryness remain, even after earnest efforts to wet them. Seems a negative especially considering that hydration can be an issue for cats.

My cats vote NO!!!!

Neither of my cats would touch this, also it had some really big very hard pieces. They love the chicken and rabbit but this one is a no go!!!!

Saved my cat

These are a godsend. My poor cat came down with horrible food allergies and we think IBS. She began throwing up once a night on her usual food. Lost 45% of her body weight. She has never been a picky eater. I could switch her to different brands, proteins, raw, wet, kibble she always ate. And then she stopped eating. Managed to find the Blue Essentials Duck and Potato wet food which she tolerated (ignored the kibble version though). Finally tried these and managed to eat 12 bowls of food in 24 hours (I'm tired, but also happy). She ate these even while fighting through a nasty URI when she wouldn't even look at anything else. She's begging me for food again right now. I hope she's back up to her normal weight soon...with as much as she's eating, it probably won't be long!
