    Perfect for traveling

    By on

My English Bulldog eats primarily frozen raw but it's not practical to travel with so we bring Vital Essentials Duck and Beef patties on vacations. 2 bags will only last a week for a 54 lb dog so it's pricey but well worth it for the quality ingredients and ease of use. I break up the patties by hand (scrub hands afterward, it's raw) and mix with water. I have no problems getting him to eat anything at all, little piglet, but he really seems to enjoy this food.

Most of the patties are broken

    By on

My dog eats a rotation of freeze dried raw patties from a few different companies. She likes the beef flavor from vital essentials and while she does like this flavor as well the majority of the patties are broken in to dust. They are very soft and crumbly. We'll use them up and not purchase them agian.

    Love this food

    By on

I absolutely LOVE Vital Essentials - it is too expensive for me to feed daily since I have multiple dogs but I use Vital Essentials as part of my dogs food rotation. Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried is also the PERFECT food for traveling with your dogs, especially when you feed a fresh food diet - fresh food doesn't always travel well - with refrigeration needed and such, and Vital Essentials is the perfect solution for traveling with dogs - so easy and mess free! I think the thing I love most about Vital Essentials Freeze Dried is that there are so few ingredients - most freeze dried raw foods (and any dog food for that matter) contain way TOO many ingredients, that is NOT the case with this food I absolutely LOVE Vital Essentials - it is too expensive for me to feed daily since I have multiple dogs but I use Vital Essentials as part of my dogs food rotation. Smells weird....dog hates it!

I have tried their freeze-dried beef nuggets and my dog liked them but will just not eat this flavor....even when opening it, it really does not have a good aroma to it...smells weird!

OH, NO, did not go down.

    By on

I had to donate an entire unopened bag and disposed of the entire contents of the opened bag because neither of my dogs would even enter the room where I had placed their bowls of this first bag of duck food. Please understand, I know how to prepare this food for serving, and they have devoured the beef patties for years along with the chicken, so I do not know what is wrong with the duck. Not going to try it again.

Great for transitioning to raw diet

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I purchased this for my 2 year old Chihuahua. She has issues with yeast buildup and even the highest quality kibble made her breakout. After lots of research, I found out that a raw diet is best for yeasty dogs because of the lack of starch (which feeds the yeast!). I want to eventually do DIY raw, but until I get my confidence up, this fits the bill. She loves the duck flavor and I know she'll like the other proteins as well. She also gets extra things like frozen green beans, a probiotic/prebiotic/enzyme supplement, goat's milk, vitamin E, chia seed and dark leafy greens. She is a very happy camper!

He loves this as much if not more than Duck Duck Goose!

    By on Top 100 Contributor

We thought we would try this and see how it compared to Stella & Chewy's. They could not tell the difference between the two and this version of Duck is without the additional additives. We will continue to purchase it. My only regret is that Beef is the only version available in the large dog "hamburger" size patties. The upside is that these smaller ones are as easy to break up as Stella & Chewy's. Highly recommend this food!

Both my dog and I love this food.

    By on

Only she eats it, honest. I searched long and hard for a food containing no carbs, no veggies to turn to sugar. She has yeast issues so this is essential (no pun intended). She loves this food! I love that she loves it.
