I live with four senior cats aged between 13-15. Including two finicky eaters, they all went crazy for this good the moment I gave small samples. There must be something special about the taste they love. The ingredients are whole duck with bone and duck’s organs. Exactly the way they should eat had they in nature. I give them home cooked cat food (used to be 100% raw but now I mostly use cooked chicken), I am so happy I found this food for them. Vital essential is the only dry food they crave which I feel 100% comfortable giving them.
Not my favorite!

This is the first time I've bought the freeze dried cat food. I've always bought wet pate that my 14 year old furbaby loves and purchased it from Chewy. I have recently been more aware of ingredients, quality, and concern for my cat's health, so I bought freeze dried in this flavor and the chicken/salmon flavor. He absolutely loves the chicken/salmon one but hates this one. Maybe because it comes in nuggets that don't seem to rehydrate well and are tough and chewy. I tried chopping them up to no avail. Too expensive to throw out, and I just don't know what to do with them!
A lot of extra work in order to feed this to the cats

There's nothing "mini" about these nibs. Some of them are 1.75 inches in length and as big around as my pinky finger. My dog food kibbles are smaller than these nibs are. The cat that I had bought it for wouldn't even touch this, he had no idea what to do with it because the pieces were so large and hard. My other cat who will eat anything struggled to "catch" these nibs and I'm unsure how he actually did eat them. I did see him tossing them around side to side in his mouth, I assume he probably just swallowed them. In order to feed them to my cat, I had to put them in a blender and pulverize them, then soak that pulverized matter in water. They are very, very hard and do not soften quicklyThere's nothing "mini" about these nibs. Some of them are 1.75 inches in length and as big around as my pinky finger. They are very, very hard and do not soften quickly nor easily with warm or boiling water. I only got them to soften a bit by leaving them overnight in water. The product doesn't smell bad, it just isn't soft and crushable like I am used to with freeze dried products. I was unable to use it straight from the bag, just a lot of extra work in order to be able to feed it to my cat. He will eat it once it is in a form small enough for him to swallow, but he will not eat it as it comes. If you are used to Stella and Chewy's, you will not like this product. The consistency is not the same.… more
Rejected this food

I tried to introduce this food and my cat wouldn't eat it. I pre-soaked about 5 or 6 bites and added it to his wet food, and he ate all around it, leaving the duck. I thought this was unusual, because his favorite canned food is duck.
Rocket would eat it but not his favorite

I wanted to try these since my cat loves the Vital Essential Rabbit patties, but it wasn't really his favorite. I'm not sure if it's the flavor or the texture that he does't like. He would still eat some of it, but would leave most of it.
Nice size pieces

The pieces are a decent size, pourable right from the bag. No fillers, great ingredients, trustworthy company. The biggest difference I find with this from other freeze dried raw foods is that it needs to rehydrate longer.

Some of my cats really do enjoy eating the crunchies. I am trying to switch them from some other less healthy treats to these freeze dried niblets since they are a complete food, without grains.
Wow, my cats could not get enough!

My cats just loved this and I have been concerned they are not getting raw diet. Will give this a try again.

I was so relieved to find a label with ingredients that I trusted made almost solely of meat - this is the only cat food that doesn’t have pea proteins and such! My cat eats it no problem and the bag is a lot larger than I assumed 12 oz would be.
