Transition Instructions
Switch to a purely raw diet slowly. Some pets may take to raw immediately, while others may take longer because they are hooked on the added flavorings in traditional pet food. Take at least 10 days to 2 weeks to gradually transition your pet's diet. This gives the digestive system time to adjust to the new food.

According to the feeding chart my 16-lb Himalayan should eat a cup of this per serving. Assuming two servings a day, that means this isn't even a full day's food for one cat? The price has me doubting if that could be true.
Answer by • Oct 25, 2017
The recommended daily feeding amount for a 16-pound cat is 8 ounces.
Can you explain why there isn't added taurine in this particular food? We've been giving our cats Vita Essentials freeze dried rabbit bites for years (their fave treat) and want to be sure this would be a well-rounded diet containing everything they'd need in their diet.
Answer by • Jun 03, 2018
This product doesn't have added synthetic vitamins to the formula, so the taurine is naturally occurring. This formula is a complete and balanced diet, containing 0.22% taurine on a dry matter basis.
How many cups are in a bag?
Answer by • Oct 31, 2022
There are approximately 7-8 cups per bag.
Would this be good for ferrets?
Answer by • Jun 08, 2018
Ferrets are true carnivores and are not built to digest fiber. They need lots of meat protein and fat. Since this food is primarily protein, this is a good alternative if you're unable to feed it a proper ferret diet.
My cats are really into the Vital Essentials Rabbit Patties. A few years back, I gave them a shot at the older version of Vital Essentials rabbit nibbles, but they were just too tough and hard for them to chow down on. When I spotted the new packaging this year, I figured, why not give it another go? Plus, the size of these nibs fits my automatic feeder perfectly.
But, here's the twist—my cats turned their noses up at the nibbles, even though they're digging the patties. This whole situation has got me scratching my head a bit. I'm starting to wonder if there's something different between the two.
I'm really hoping the nibbles can win my cats over, so I don't have to go through the hassle of breaking down the patties into smaller bits for the automatic feeder. Come on, Vital Essentials, let's make those nibbles just as much of a hit as the patties!

Too tough for my cats to chew
My cats love the rabbit patties and the chicken treats by this brand. These nibs, however, were just too hard/tough for my cats. They can't be crumbled like the patties, and I tried serving them both dry and after soaking in water....no luck.

My cat will do anything for these treats
My cat tried to chew through a bag of these rabbit treats after he managed to break into the container that they were in. This bag was the one that was the most chewed up one in there. He is crazy about them and I can't recommend them enough.
They come in a really sturdy bag, too; he did a lot of damage but wasn't able to actually get in!

My cats loved this, but....
My cats absolutely loved this either wet or dry & in the variety of flavors offered, but I usually fed it to them with water added. Unfortunately my older cat developed an allergy to it (primarily the rabbit) & started having asthma attacks when I fed it to her. I stopped getting it, of course but she's been left with moderate lung damage & worsening asthma, for which she's treated with inhalers & currently, steroids. It's unfortunate because I thought it was a very high quality food & my cats would start begging as soon as I pulled out the bag. I stopped using all of the Vital Essentials products, including the treats because of my cat's reaction & fear that my other cat would get sick as well.

Good option
Both of my cats like it , the old formula was better with the goat milk, but they adjusted, and now they like the new formula as well.

Cats hated
My cats hated this. It wouldn't get soft enough to smooth out and felt more like a sponge. I tried it warm water and left it in water for days and all I could to was cut it up into smaller pieces. Each cut was like a sponge. Nothing like the other freeze-dried cat food I've had before. No I have no idea what to do with what's left.

Disappointed
My 2 cats will not eat these. They love the VitalCat Rabbit Dinner Patties, but as those were out of stock I decided to order these. These are described the same as the patties, freeze-dried raw food. They are rock hard pellets. They are nothing like the freeze-dried patties. I was expecting something similar but just a different size/shape.

My Spunky loves this food
My cats love this food. I like feeding them foods with ingredients that they would eat naturally and they definitely would eat rabbits.
