Minnows are a hit with my kitty!

By Guardian on Jan 6, 2018

I wasn't sure my cat would like these; he surprises me sometimes. So far he has liked all the products I've ordered by VitalCat. He's tried the chicken mini nibs, the turkey patties, and these minnows and goes crazy for them equally. My cat will not touch most treats. He loves hunting and eating bugs and I think these happen to be fairly similar in texture. Crunchy and light! At first he didn't realize the first minnow was something to eat, and kind of batted at it. He was starting to walk away, uninterested, when the smell seemed to suddenly catch his attention, and he snapped back over to devour it. That being said, the odor is not strong since the fish are dry. They keep him busy for some time, too. … more

One Kitty Likes, the Other Won't Touch

By Kenzie on Dec 30, 2017

I've been trying different "healthy" treats for my two kitties whenever I have to order their cat food to replace their old favorite Temptations and these were their 4th taste test. My big boy Kit Kat ate them just fine, but he pretty much eats anything you put in front of him. My big boy Kit Kat ate them just fine, but he pretty much eats anything you put in front of him. On the other hand, my picky cat Milo refused to eat these at all. They are a little creepy since they are literally just freeze-dried fish but that's also what's nice about them, they're definitely not some slaughterhouse meat, it's a fish that you can visually see. It was 50/50 for my boys but one of them is very finicky. … more

One cat loved them, one cat didn't show much interest. She's picky, anyway. If she saw the other cat eat it, she might have shown more interest...either that, or she was just late for her 8 hr nap. Who knows. My male took it to his bed. He's a pig. He'll eat just about anything.

  • A whole food treat for my cat! Yes!!

I thought these were very unique and they caught my eye. I am always on the search for different treats for my kitties. I was skeptical about the amount but there is a good amount in the bag. They do not have a very strong odor, which is good for me. Unfortunately two out of my three cats will not eat them. I will still get them for my old man because he loves to crunch these up and would eat all I give him. (I only give him about three or four a week). I really thought my youngest would go for these because her momma was semi-feral and supplemented their diet with lizards she caught. This is before I found the kitties. I rescued them at about 3 1/2 weeks old. I found out that no lizard is safe I thought these were very unique and they caught my eye. I am always on the search for different treats for my kitties. I also intend to check out Vital Essentials other treats. … more

  • something different

I wanted to try different in terms of treats and heard that cats go crazy for freezedried and these happened to catch my eye so I bought two bags for a test run. Admittedly, it took me a moment to get over the initial queasiness to stick my hand into the bag but I got over it quickly. The bags come with a pretty good amount of minnows with a nice variety in size, mostly big ones, and they were not a crumbled mess. When it came to the cats it was a hit and miss; of my five cats three of them did not care for the treats at all while the other two tried to take off my fingers for them. Because of those two cats I will be buying more of these and hopefully the rest will give them a shot.

  • Acquired taste

At first, my cat was not thrilled about these. I think, because they don't resemble any other cat treat or kibble, he wasn't sure what to think. Now he is used to them, and he goes absolutely crazy when the bag comes out. He loves those little fishies!

Interestingly my kitties would not take these little treats. However, my dogs love them.
