What is the percentage of bone is the new formulation?

I have a 45lb puppy and still growing. The weight for the feeding instruction only goes up to 25 for the mini patties. How do I know how much to feed him?? I get it says feed up to double to amount for puppies, but how do I know how many patties for over 25lb??
Answer by ChewyJun 29, 2021
Dogs over 50 pounds would get 8 patties while 100 pound dogs would get 16 patties. However these are just guidelines and each pet will vary.

Is this okay for puppies?
Answer by ChewyApr 08, 2020
This food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages, including growth of large size dogs (70 pounds or more as an adult).

How many patties are in one bag? Or how long would a bag last a 50 lb dog?
Answer by ChewyOct 28, 2022
The quantity of patties will vary due to this product being based on weight. The duration of how long this food would last varies depending on the daily feeding amounts. Vital essentials Rabbit nibs

My yorkie loves this food. But I have to buy several bags to get one good bag. If the nibs are brown or pink, they are ok. But when they are yellowish, my dog will either not eat it, or if she does she gets diarrhea. A lot of waste. And I feel sorry for my dog.

my yorkies love this but......

I have 2 old yorkies (13 & 19) that do not have teeth, they love this but you have to watch for small bones, tiny bones that sometimes are very sharp. I soak these patties and then when I break them up, I squish it and take out the bone fragments. If your dog has teeth, I'm sure they could break up the bones by chewing but my yorkies are 5 lbs and i'm scared they'll choke if they ate one of the sharper bones. Some of the bones are round and would probably go down just fine, but I have come across some that have a sharp pointy end. I am talking tiny, like a shriveled pea, again, not a problem if round and your dog has teeth but bad for toothless dogs and the sharp ones. They do LOVE this food though. I can't decide if I'll buy it again because its extra work for me. The more bones I find, the more my doberman gets a taste of rabbit so nothing is wasted.

Weird Smell and Color

My dog loves rabbit Pattie so I bought him another bag in January. However, what I received this time looks very different from last time’s. It is in light pink and smells weird.

Smelt and looked different

My puppy who is not picky and is a foody normally loves this dog food but for some reason this package she didn’t eat it and just stared at me. It smelt weird and looked lighter color. I threw it away. Luckily I also had the s&c rabbit one too which ate right up.

My cats love these, even though they're for dogs.

I've tried both the cat version and the dog version, and my cats love both. They like them as-is, just broken up, not rehydrated, but it's like kitty crack to them that way LOL The patties are easy to break up, too, although a bit messy, which is to be expected. As others have noted, it can cause constipation. My older cats did start getting constipated from this when I tried to add it as part of their food, so now they only get a small amount as a treat to avoid the constipation. I have a younger cat who has allergies who loves this, though, so he gets it in his food which helps with his allergies, and his system is able to deal with the change without constipation.

Great food Lacking, but lacking fiber. Made my dog constipated

This food is great if you're doing an elimination diet to see what your dog may be allergic to, but from experience I don't think it would be healthy to feed for a long period. My senior dog has been eating this for awhile due to allergies and she's been doing great as far as itching and scratching but because this has nothing other than meat, no veggies or fruits, and no fiber she is very constipated. She has a very very hard time pooping.. Gonna try to find something else that will work. If not, maybe I'll just add my own veggies and fruits.

Perfect for seniors

I've been feeding my senior chihuahua TruDog for a few years and will continue to feed it along with Vital Essentials Rabbit Patties. The mini rabbit patties are perfect for Precious’s teeth. I soak the broken pieces in a bit of water and they are nice and soft. She LOVES it!! Highly recommended!

The only food our cats eat

This is the only food our 12-lbs Ragdoll and 8-lbs British Shorthair cats will eat. They have been raw fed since 10 weeks old but in the beginning they only ate pre-made raw food from a high quality raw pet food brand (Raw Paws - great company) and would only eat goat meat for two years. Then they woke up one day and decided they did not like goat anymore. We ordered pre-made raw chicken, lamb, beef, pork, alpaca, mutton, mouse, guinea pig, and rabbit from another raw food company. But nope, these brats turned their nose up. We turned to Chewy and tried Ziwi, Tiki cat, etc but they didn’t like any of them either. All the while, we have been giving VE as treats but never as an actual meal. Eventually, we gave all VE freeze-dried entrees (beef, chicken, duck, turkey) a try and this is the only one they’ve been eating consistently. We buy VE dog food instead of cat food because of the quantity. Sure, it costs us $300 a month to feed two cats but no more thawing raw meat in the fridge and all together much easier to feed and a great balance diet. Their stool does not smell on this diet either while other food caused their stool to smell horrendous. At this price point, no, it’s not going to be for everyone but if you want convenient and high quality raw diet for your pets, this is it.

Excellent Food

I have finicky Eaters. They all love Vital Essentials. I rotate all the proteins, Rabbit seems to be their favorite. Love that it comes in patties now. Easy to break and re-hydrate.
