Cat loves it, but size is inconsistent

    By on

My 15 year old girl cat friend has eaten mostly wet food most of her life, but has always remained a crunchy addict, so I was thrilled when I discovered these. I feed her some sprinkled on top of her wet meal for added crunch. She loves them, and I love the ingredient list, much as we love the Vital Essential minnows. My only concern is that the size of the nibs has been inconsistent bag to bag. Sometimes they're small, comparable to average-sized dry cat food pellets, and sometimes quite a bit larger, maybe 3 times the size of dry pellets. I can't help but question quality control when that happens, and it also makes it harder for chewing, especially for kitties who've had teeth extracted My 15 year old girl cat friend has eaten mostly wet food most of her life, but has always remained a crunchy addict, so I was thrilled when I discovered these. I've taken to hammering the nibs down to smaller bits inside of a bag before serving, but would love it if Vital Essentials could better maintain the consistency of the product. Still, for cats who love crunch, I would recommend this food, just keep an eye on the quality. … more

started good and cats lost interest

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I decided to give this new food a try since Stella and Chewy's rabbit was out of stock for a while. My two cats seemed interested in trying it out for first few days but then seemed not to care for it anymore. Now that Stella and Chewy's freeze dried rabbit is available again, the cats do not really touch eating this. I was hoping my cats would love this instead, b/c the size of these fits inside my automatic feeder.

    Very tough

    By on

I decided to try this brand while my cat's usual brand is out of stock. Unfortunately, I will not be buying it again. It's very hard and doesn't rehydrate well at all. My cats did not like the hard texture and had difficulty chewing it. If your cat is transitioning from dry food to freeze-dried raw, this might be a good transition, but if your cat is already on freeze-dried or wet food, this may not be the best option.

Just might have earned a permanent place on autoship

    By on Top 250 Contributor

In an attempt to help my cat's digestion (he was frequently vomiting his food) I started him back on freeze-dried food. He absolutely loves rabbit and he liked the other vital essentials proteins so I gave in and got him rabbit. It's his birthday next month so why not?! He loves this stuff. And I wish it wasn't double the price of the other proteins but I understand why it is. He's so picky so I always end up putting the foods he does like on auto ship. This one is a keeper.

    Mimi goes crazy

Our 2 year old Bombay loves these. Usually we serve this dry but one-third times we put hot water in bowl for two minutes. She prefers these to parties, and she mainly eats canned food.

Cleocatra loves the vital essentials rabbit mini nibs. She goes back and forth between the nibs and the patties.

They get super happy after I feed them these snacks. It also holds them out for dinner. Every cat is very unique so you have to find out what they like and I'm happy they love these.

    Kitties not a fan

    By on

It’s great that it’s easy to serve dehydrated, but my boys weren’t into it. My less fussy one who eats almost everything tried a couple of pieces and after some seriously loud and strenuous crunching, gave up and walked away. Tried it rehydrated and both weren’t interested either. The ingredients are good so I wish they liked it, but cats.

My cats liked them, too. Very concerned about feeding my cats real food. Me, too!
