To attract the greatest variety of birds, you should have at least 2 - 3 different types of feeders to accommodate different types of seeds, and varying feeding habits. Hopper Feeders and Tube Feeders (with large holes) are better for Sunflower Seed, Safflower Seed, Peanuts and Blended Seeds. Finch Tube Feeders (with small holes) are better for Nyer Seed and Finch Food. Platform Feeders will accommodate ground feeding birds (such as Cardinals, Juncos, Doves, Jays, and Sparrows) and other wildlife.

They've also been the first to market black oil sunflower seed, regional blends, and deluxe and premium bird foods.

not so great
By spotsmith on Apr 22, 2022
I was excited to find Nyjer seed at Chewy for about the same price as I get it from a tack and feed store near me. The tack and feed store had been out for some time, so I decided to order it from Chewy. Not a good experience. There are a lot of twigs in with the seed - not the case with what I buy from the tack and feed store - which plugs up the bird feeder. The birds are just not eating this brand. That's shocking to me, because normally I reload their feeder every 3-4 days. I will not purchase this brand again. Very disappointing.

Inconsistant Quality
By Judyrutrider on Mar 29, 2022
Normally, these seeds are plump and the birds gobble them up; but three of the bags I've received in the past year have been unpalatable to the birds. They are small and dusty. The birds peck at them listlessly and then boycott them entirely. When the seeds are good, they're "very good indeed, but when they are bad, they are horrid". The last two bags I received, with an apparent expiration date of 3/2/2024, fall into the horrid category; so I wouldn't recommend ordering this product at this time.

waste of money and time
By catrescuer on Feb 22, 2022
I bought this because I thought it was the preferred food of finches and some other birds. I had even bought the special feeder from Perky Pet. I put some of this seed into the feeder and hung it on a clothesline near a dwarf pear tree in the back corner of my yard, a few days before a snowstorm. I watched every day, but the only time any small birds(sparrows?) tried to eat from it was during the snowstorm when they were desperate. After about a month with no birds eating from this feeder, I finally started spreading this nyger seed on a ground platform where pigeons and blackbirds, and sparrows eat. They eat some other seeds and suet nuggets there but leave the nyger seed and only eat a small I bought this because I thought it was the preferred food of finches and some other birds. Not attracting birds
By Roth on May 22, 2022
No birds have come to the feeder! We’re still watching and waiting. But so far we are disappointed. Not sure if it’s the food or the feeder.

Our finches love this food
By Phoenician on Jan 23, 2022
My friend got us started with Wagner’s Nyjer seed last summer, after spending far too much for small quantities of other brands in local stores. The finches LOVE it - I have seen up to 10 at a time on one sock feeder! Unfortunately, sparrows have discovered our patio feeders and have driven away many of the finches. So I’m now trying mixes of different foods in some of the feeders, hoping the sparrows will prefer those and leave the pure Nyjer to the little guys (I also want to try a tube feeder). We’ve gone through at least six 20-pound bags of Wagner’s Nyjer in 6 months and have had no problems with quality or packaging.

Large amount and very fresh
By Kaylynn on Apr 12, 2022
There are a lot of seeds packed into this bag. Nyjer seed needs to be fresh to attract finches or they just won't eat it. This seed is very fresh and of very good quality.

I live in South Florida
By esh1 on Nov 9, 2021
I live in South Florida and buy this to. mix my own wild birdseed mix, along with Black-oiled sunflower, safflower and white millet seeds. It attracts many species of birds, and the many small birds love it!

Finches love this food!
By Caren on Nov 3, 2021
We now have a LOT of finches in our backyard! It gets eaten pretty fast. They flock to the feeders every day. It is fun for us and the cats to watch them from inside the house.
