Instructions
  • Take dog for a short walk to calm them down and burn off extra energy. Take a few minutes to pet the dog to make sure he is not overly stressed or scared
  • Thoroughly brush and/or comb to remove tangles and mats
  • Understand the product difference between a clipper and a trimmer. A clipper is a larger tool designed to cut longer body hair. A trimmer is more of a detail tool that is used for touch-ups.
  • Consulting specific breed, size and coat type instructions on this website, use clippers to trim excess fur off the dog’s body, choosing the appropriate clipper guide comb to achieve desired length. Start with the shoulders and progress towards the tail
  • Clip as close to the body as desired, leaving at least a half-inch or more in order to maintain enough protection from the elements
  • Clip hair around the paws and tail Inspect the chest to determine if any trimming is needed
  • Clip any excess fur that is hanging or isn’t uniform to the rest of the body
  • Clip the head and face last, being careful of moving ears, mouth, eye lashes and nose. Choose a clip attachment adhering to your desired fur length. Place the clipper flat against the top of the dog’s head with the blade spokes facing to the rear. Pull the clippers towards the back to push fur away from the upper brow.
  • Clip the muzzle by beginning at the bridge of the nose and pulling clippers downward towards the dog’s mouth
  • Clip or trim between the eyes by placing the clipper guide comb or the trimmer flat against the forehead with the blade spokes facing the nose. Progress towards the nose, being extra cautious of potential head movement or jerks in order to remain safely away from the eyes
  • Gently wrap your free hand around the dog’s muzzle and point it towards the ceiling. Place the guide comb against the chin, with the spokes facing the throat, and run the clippers towards the throat to trim the underside of the muzzle.
  • Hold the ear tip between fingers so that only fur rests above the fingers (no skin) and trim this hair. Repeat along the edges of the ear.
  • If necessary, gently trim excess hair in the inside of ears, using a smaller trimmer. Always avoid the ear canal.
FAQ

How can I make my dog more comfortable for grooming?

It is always wise take your dog for a walk or exercise prior to grooming activities, particularly if he is the type to get restless, antsy or apprehensive. It will diminish the dog’s energy level and make it easier to complete the task. Aromatherapists say the smell of spearmint and peppermint help calm dogs, so it might be worth buying a few scented candles.

What is the best way to de-mat my dog?

Use a liquid fur detangler or work some baby oil into the mat. Let it sit for several minutes and then loosen and separate using your fingers or the end of a comb. Gently brush out the loosened sections. Severe, stubborn mats may have to be clipped if detangling doesn’t work.

Do I really need to brush my dog?

Absolutely. Not brushing will lead to the development of mats. Matted hair will pull and inflame his sensitive skin and will be painful to remove. Regular brushing will also keep the dog’s skin healthy by stimulating blood flow and distributing natural oils, while also rooting out parasites.

    Works Great!

By Petparent on Aug 31, 2021

Love this. Take it to the park with me, play ball really hard with my boy, then shave him while he's resting and leave the hair there! :-)

Works very well, with minimum stress to my cats. Low noise which avoids the cat panicking.

    Loud & Buzzy

By Adrienne on May 30, 2021

These are just as loud, if not louder than human buzzers. Also vibrate aggressively, so much so even my hand felt weird after only a few minutes. The pupper took notice as well. Maybe I can use these on my husband.

Guards are meant for shorter hair, but the clipper works well for long hair.

    By reyjitsu02 on Jul 20, 2019

I have a 50-lb Australian shepherd whose got a lot of junk in the trunk--mats, leaves, stickers, waste... It was time to stop paying the groomer over $50 each time and mess up my dog's grooming myself. I got this clipper set to help me achieve that. DVD - the info in it didn't really pertain to me. It was definitely directed towards owners with poodles, cocker spaniels, shih-tzus, and other similarly haired dogs. If I had one of these dogs, I didn't think the instructions were very helpful. I learned how to hold the scissors. That's about it. Comb - SUPER flimsy. I think it would snap easily even when used on a short-medium coat. I didn't use it much on my Aussie. Clipper - battery lasts a good long while! We'll see how they stand the test of time. Also, I'm not sure how to maintain the clippers. No instructions for that were included. … more

    first time used...

By Renee on Jul 18, 2019

This is the first time I did some thining out of the fluffy and thick hair on our golden retriever. The clipper had no problem with the job! I did not intend to shave her, just to get some of the thick coat thinner. Her coat is like a lamb, thick and fuzzy for a golden. And the clipper did the job!
