Found out my 14 year old Yorkie poo tore her ACL and because of her age and her congestive heart disease, she is not a candidate for surgery. Could have taken her for a custom fit brace but way to expensive. Decided to try this brace and was so glad I did. After using the brace for a week, she is no longer 3 legging when she walks. She walks gingerly but uses all 4 legs. I will continue to use the brace for her short walks each day. I used the instructions on how to measure and the fit is perfect. Very well made. I would highly recommend if surgery is not an option for a torn ACL.
good middle ground product - I recommend it
This is the first knee brace I've purchased and I wasn't sure if my dog would wear it or if it would help. So, I compared inexpensive, middle priced, and very expensive braces. I chose the WalkAbout brace because I wanted one that seemed like it would be effective, but not break the bank if my pup wouldn't wear it, or if it didn't seem to help. Good decision to get this one. It's pretty easy to put on (although I make sure to be gentle with her injured knee) and seems to help. Once it's on, my pup doesn't really seem to notice it. It stays in place well too. It wraps around her knee like it should when she's standing. Then it moves further down around her lower leg when she lays down so it's not uncomfortable for her. The size chart and measurements helped me get exactly the right size. Just be sure to select the correct side, left or right knee. The strap is included and keeps the brace in place. This is the only product I found that includes the strap which is a necessity. More expensive braces required the strap to be purchased separately. Inexpensive braces didn't offer straps as part of the purchase and no straps were available for purchase. If your dog has a knee injury, I recommend this brace.
When I first got this it seemed perfect, however, by the end of the day I understood the other reviews The actual knee brace can be tightened with a little Velcro but trying to keep the back straps from falling is impossible and I've tried several different harnesses and adjusting the back straps of the brace. It still won't stay put because they are too close to the slope leading to the tail and the connecting straps don't connect around the body well. Because I want to try to avoid surgery on an 8y.o. service dog I'm going to have to find a way to fix it.
I tried to put this on my dog(XS) and it just swallows her. The manufacture made it about a size too large. I have Chihuahuas and this would fit a rat terrier. (Med. size dog) The materials seem to be good /comfortable quality. Chewy was very good about sending it quickly! Thank You!
Sizing is awful
I read great reviews on this brace. My experience with product as been terrible. I bought a medium for my baby her upper thigh is 11". Abdomen is 25". When I received brace I was excited. I put the brace on her and the leg sleeve was way big, would not support her leg just a neoprene thing around her leg. The strap to help hold the brace fit well. Small would not fit either the strap for support was way too small and the sleeve too short. If your baby has a thigh of 11" I would NOT recommend this product. Guess my baby is too in between for this product to fit right. Like I said I read great reviews about this brace. I am sure it worked for other fur baby owners. Was really hoping this would work for my fur baby,
Totally Ill Fitting
I checked and double checked my measurements and the brace was totally ill fitting — offering no support whatsoever. May be better on larger dogs but I have a small chihuahua mix and the XS was still too big but the smaller size would not have fit the circumference of her thigh. Am returning.
These things are great!
Didn't know Chewy carried these, I have ordered direct from manufacturer. Had one for my last Aussie, Sara, it really helped. Just got one for my little Pug. And she is little, may have a smidge of Chi in her. Measuring didn't quite work, but I think I had the knee in the wrong position. Exchange was quick and easy and the xxs is a perfect fit. Giving her time to get used to one, then will get one for the left knee...she has luxating patellas. And of course, don't forget joint supplements too!
Early onset hip dysplasia
I have a senior Portuguese water dog who started to show early onset of hip dysplasia/arthritis. She would struggle to get up sometimes and walk with an open gate. After trying CBD glucosamine and a handful of other vitamins and anti-inflammatories, which all seemed to offer a little help I ordered the brace. Overall quality is pretty basic neoprene and velcro. It can be used with a front harness which I already had and use about half the time. As far as helping her get up I think it gives her very little support, but has made her stride and her stability on her walks much better. I ordered the right side because that was the side she seem to be favoring or the weaker. Overall I think it’s helped her quality of life so I would consider it a good purchase.
Sorry couldn't figure out how to use it
We were unable to figure out how to put this on our dog. Maybe because she is a female, but I should have returned but didn't get that done.
Bad fit for small dogs
I measured and ordered according to the guide and it was too big I returned it got a refund and ordered the smaller size and its still too big I got a refund for that as well. Only gets 2 stars because the return was easy and the reps were friendly and helpful, but wouldn't recommend for small dogs or cats.
