I love this. My Siamese refuses to use a regular scratcher so the cardboard is the way to go. I didn’t get a bag of cat nip at all with my purchase or the box. The glue they give you ended up getting all over me and breaking about halfway through so I gave up and used super glue. Every thing has held together thus far & it’s been about a week. The cardboard isn’t scented like catnip so I’m not sure why it’s labeled like that. I love that you can turn the bottom plate around however my kitty had an accident on her bottom plate of the cardboard and peed right through both sides of it so I won’t be able to have her use the bottom part of the scratcher. It wasn’t till after that incident I hopped on to chewy to see if they sell replacement parts and learned that they don’t so that’s my fault that I didn’t research first before I just bought it.
In order for this to be a viable scratching area, I had to nail it to the wall. Once that was done, my cats started using it (especially the vertical scratching area) right away, and continue to use it. This is the single most important factor. I like that the scratching areas are cardboard rather than sisal or carpet since both my cats prefer to scratch cardboard. I do wish the cardboard slabs were refillable though. Once the cardboard is scratched away, the only option is to buy another.
There was no free catnip included. The product is liked by the cats, but missing the nip!
Out of everything toys, bed or otherwise this is the all time favorite. Good for stretching, scratching and napping!
