Looks like a great product, and it is, but my Vet said...

I spent more time than I will admit (I'm an analytical one) researching dog food brands, types, and ingredients recently and ended up changing my 11-year-old golden retriever from Natural Balance (fish and sweet potato) that she has been on for at least 9 years(*) to this Wellness CORE Senior GF food I spent more time than I will admit (I'm an analytical one) researching dog food brands, types, and ingredients recently and ended up changing my 11-year-old golden retriever from Natural Balance (fish and sweet potato) that she has been on for at least 9 years(*) to this Wellness CORE Senior GF food. She liked it and I was feeling pretty good about our choice as the ingredients and overall care and reputation of Wellness has certainly grown on me (Natural Balance is great too). Then, our vet informed us that the heart issue dogs are getting is contributed by having too much peas, potatoes, or chickpeas in the food (in the specific case of this food, the issue is broader than this when other foods are looked at). (* We started her as a puppy with Blue Buffalo but she would poop in the house by the back door occasionally and then eat her poop in the yard. After spending money on vet visits and other things we finally change the food and presto, zero problems since. Well, we recently adopted a mixed breed puppy that was on Blue Buffalo and the same thing happened, switched to Wellness brand puppy food, no more problem. Beware of Blue Buffalo, they seem to spend a lot on marketing but their food does not agree with my dogs.) … more

    Kibble is big and hard

By Holly on Apr 23, 2020

My dog did not do well with this food , the kibble is very hard and this food made her gain weight . It is important that I keep her weight down as she is 10 with some arthritis in her back legs .I was giving her natural instinct which she loved but it made her very gassy . I have read good reviews on My dog did not do well with this food , the kibble is very hard and this food made her gain weight .
