Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shelf life of Wellness Natural Pet Food?

Wellness dry foods have an expiration of 18 months from date of manufacture. Wellness canned foods have an expiration of 3 years from date of manufacture. Dog & cat plastic have an expiration of 2 years from date of manufacture.

What does "natural" pet food mean?

Natural means we use ingredients that are derived from plants, animals and minerals in our recipes and that Wellness pet food contains no artificial preservatives or colors.

Why do your products sometimes vary in size, shape, color, texture or aroma?

Wellness products are natural, and as a result, you may experience product that looks slightly different in texture, color, shape, aroma and consistency from time to time. This is a function of natural products in general, but also raw material fluctuations and the manufacturing process. Please be assured that even though the product may look different from batch to batch, its superior nutritional value, palatability and safety does not change.

Why are some Guaranteed Analysis (GA) levels minimums and others maximums? Do you choose how to list them?

Minimum and maximum claims for each nutrient are established by AAFCO. The only necessary claims a pet food must make are for Crude Protein, Fat, Fiber, and Moisture.

  • Protein is always a minimum claim
  • Fat is always a minimum claim
  • Fiber is always a maximum claim
  • Moisture is always a maximum claim

While these are the only nutrients mandated by AAFCO to carry min/max claims, ash may voluntarily be listed, but must be listed as a maximum guarantee. Any vitamins, minerals or live microorganisms (probiotics) may be labeled with a minimum guarantee. We're proud to be 1 of the only pet food manufacturers who are able to include guaranteed levels of probiotics on our dry food recipes. Probiotics can help improve digestion and immune system function.

I bought the soft puppy bites for my two corgis and they love the taste. I wanted another type of treat for them so I bought the crunchy ones as well. The also love these treats and they don't have as strong of a smell as the soft ones.

  • Too hard and lots of crumbs

    By on

When I got this, my puppy was just 8 weeks old. The chicken and carrot bites are too hard so he did not eat it. Now after a month, I gave it to him again and he somewhat liked it but scattered a lot of crumbs from biting the biscuit. Not that bad but I just don't like the mess that comes with it especially if you have a carpeted floor.

  • Healthy treats

My new puppy loves these little treats. I don't use them for training (sit, stay, down) I use them when he goes to bed, it's his treat for going in the cage - he eagerly runs to his bed waits for his treat then lays down.

  • Puppy crunchy bits

These are great. A small size and perfect for training treats. My puppy is 7 months and my other dog is 5 years. Both golden retrievers. They usually each get them and they really like them.

  • Great treats for my pup!

    By on

I started giving these to my 6 month old goldendoodle when looking for different training treats to try and im SO glad i did! they are terrific! my girl just LOVES these, i would suggest not giving these to pups younger than 6 months as they are a bit hard to chew when they haven't gotten their adult teeth yet. otherwise i HIGHLY recommend them! and the ingredients are great! i personally think they deserve a higher rating. the price is excellent, you really can't beat it

  • Too hard for 8 week old lab

    By on

Tried giving these to our 8 week old Labrador puppy. He was very interested but could not chew these so he spit them out. These seem a bit too hard and might work better when he is a little older. I dunked one in his water bowl to soften it and then break it up and he ate it then. These might be better suited to older puppies based on my experience.
