Transition Instructions

The best way to transition onto a new food is to gradually introduce the food by mixing it with the old diet. This is particularly important when the new food is much tastier than the old, as is the case with Wellness. Mixing the food will allow the dog to acclimate to the new taste and not overindulge on the new food.

When food transition is not an option, there are a few ways to ensure a good transition:

  • Feed multiple, smaller volume meals. This will decrease the likelihood of over-consumption and provide for a more consistent, firm stool. This is an especially good option for puppies and senior dogs.

  • Add clean warm water to the food to help soften it.

  • Add a digestive aid such a boiled brown rice or sugar-free canned pumpkin

  • Good Food for Sensitive Systems

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I have a Jack Russell that has a sensitive digestion. Baked food seems to work well for him. I have him on a rotational diet to avoid further GI Issues. He has done well on TruFood and I will add this to my rotation. Also rec.: Lotus and Stella and Chewy - both are baked in small batches. All are worth the price.

  • Skin issue

    By on

I have 4 minuture schnauzers, one of them is all white and gets really bad food allergies so chicken an grain is out. He is also a very finicky eater ( of course) so we've tried many brands of dog food. We recently added to our fur babies and was given a list of vet approved foods. I came across this brand and decided to try a small bag to see if my finicky eater would even touch it and guess what?? He loves this food!!! He eats every little nugget of food they have been eating Trufood now for 4 months and no skin issues no schnauzer bumps, and happy tummys

  • I won't buy this again

    By on

I used to buy Trufood from Petsmart and then they stopped selling it. When I found it on Chewy I ordered it, thinking my dogs would love it as usual. The recipe appears to be changed. They will not touch it.

  • My dogs love this food!

    By on

My chihuahua mixes (small breed) love this food - I've tried other products including other choices from Wellness and the reaction is lackluster, but Wellness Trufood is their fave - small triangular pieces with flakes of vegetables added throughout and they are eager to consume unlike other products - grain free - what's not to like!

  • Better if raw

    By on

I usually love lamb, but baked is not as good as raw. I tell my human to buy the raw lamb kibble next time.

  • Not that special?

    By on

I have 5 rescues, 1 is an extremely picky eater. I feed them all Wellness formulas with very good success. I got this esp for my picky one (Rat Terrier mix) as I have to practically hand feed him his kibble. He eats every piece one by one! The first time he ate this real well, seemed to like it but after that shows no more interest in the Trufood than the other. I give him half & half & manage to get it down him - he has me well-trained! I doubt I will buy it again but just keep on with the usual Wellness formula as it doesn't seem special enough to him. It is very tiny bits, BTW - wouldn't recommend for large dogs.

  • My dogs love this food!

    By on

I use this food for my two very picky eaters and one who was very sick and has since passed away. It was the only food I could get her to eat. It's probably best for feeding one small dog because of the price tag, but I like keeping it on hand.
