Too many spoiled cans
I am extremely frustrated with this brand. I use this brand for my adult cats. Over the past few years, I’ve tried this formula for my kittens. Like others have described, some cans are a nice pink color and come are greenish grey and rancid. I feel like I throw away about every third can, which is expensive and frustrating! I saw the comment about the email to the manufacturer. But I don’t buy their excuse. I don’t believe this is safe for my kittens and am looking for a permanent switch at this point.

As many reviewers previously noted, some of the cans in my delivery also had a grayish cast on the top layer of the food. I emailed Weruva directly about it and below is their response which I found very reassuring. I have been feeding this food now to my kittens for the past several weeks and they seem to love it. Thank you for your email to Weruva and support of our products. We appreciate the inquiry and are glad you contacted us. It is not unusual for the color of the meat to change a bit as the meat interacts with the vitamins and minerals during cooking. For example, calcium often may dullen or make the formula a bit grey/green. As we use natural ingredients and do not blend them or add in color “stabilizers”, we get some natural variation. This is what you are seeing in the picture you sent. From a production standpoint, we do not add any preservatives to the food. Our pouched foods still have a 2-year shelf life, 3 years for cans, and this is accomplished through the cooking process. The ingredients are first cooked, and the cooked food along with other ingredients are then put into the can or pouch where they are hermetically sealed. The next step in the production is the retort process. Based upon the size of the can or pouch, the ingredients, and the density of the ingredients, the can or pouch is heated at a certain time and temperature. This phase, performed on international human food standards, is one of the critical control steps that is heavily monitored. This process is the commercial sterilization process that is designed to kill all single cell organisms. This is what gives our food a minimum two-year shelf life without adding preservatives. Unless there is a breach, the can or pouch will be sterile (no bacteria) upon opening. Rancid or rotten food will typically have a very obvious bad odor and appearance. Please know we always have a 100% guarantee on our formulas, so if you or your kitties are ever dissatisfied for any reason, if interested, both opened and unopened cans may be returned to the place of purchase for a refund/credit. SPOILED CANS- BE AWARE
I ordered a ton of this food in November 2022 to have on hand after the local pet store I had been getting it from ran out and I had trouble finding it anywhere. Nearly every can I opened was spoiled, greenish brown and many watery looking. I got a refund from Chewy, and didn't feed my kittens the discolored food, but even the non discolored cans (which were few and far between) gave my kittens diarrhea, which is dangerous, especially for such small and young animals. Pretty upsetting honestly. I'm wary of this food and wont be buying it again. Seems like Chewy should be doing a recall because I am seeing a number of people have said the same thing.
All ROTTEN in two orders
The first order had a can of rotten meat(the color is totally different), so I asked for a new order, but the first can I open in the new order is also rancid. Unacceptable quality contol.
check your cans! Bad batch
Generally really love this product but I got a bad batch somehow. The food is usually pink colored and I’ve had a couple of cans now from this batch have a brown tinge on the top 1/8th of the Can and then pink
Kitten did not like it
Cannot say it had anything to do with the product but my kitten would not like it. I try a gradual mix in with her current food, I try it alone, I made a slurry, I warmed it up. She would not take any of it. She has previously been only on other poultry flavors, so I thought that part should not be an issue. I would not consider it to me a mark against the company, but I probably will not be purchasing from them again. Chewy if was excellent about the return, and had such great customer service!

My kitty "Mikey" (almost 5) was recently diagnosed with Feline Leukemia and had stopped eating. I found this kitten food that he's devouring. I'm happy that I found this food.
Favorite food
This is one of the favorite foods for our kittens. It's been difficult to find in our area, so we're very pleased to have access to it on Chewy! We add a little filtered water and mix it in well, as we do with all their wet foods.
Life Saver
I hate to be dramatic but I think this food has saved the life of 3 kittens/cats in my care. I’m a foster and sick shelter cat Mom. One I had a kitten just quit eating and drinking the food provided by the shelter (it wasn’t crappy food it was blue buffalo). I tried 8 brands and this was the only brand that picky litter would eat. She went from failing to thrive getting closer to death every day to a healthy adoptable kitten that gained weight every time I weighed her. It also saved my personal cat who have terrible immune systems and a really bad case of feline herpes. They got very sick to the point of not eating. I again tried many brand but this is the only brand they would eat. The formula is soft and liquidy so I can easily stir in their powder supplements with out having to add the expensive broth (saving me $4 a day!!). And the amount of moisture in this product helps me rest at ease knowing my cats are not dehydrated when they are sick. I will say this food does give them diarrhea even after a few weeks, so expect your litter box to look like a war zone. But it’s still my go to and I’m so happy to have finally found the right brand in my cat program.
