About Weruva Wx

Weruva Wx Phos Focused

This low-phosphorous food is all natural and free of ingredients like powdered cellulose, fillers and carbohydrates that can superficially lower phosphorous percentages. Weruva Wx contains up to 50% less phosphorus than AAFCO’s minimum levels.

Weruva’s Lowest Phosphorous Foods

The Weruva Wx formula has low levels of phosphorous without sacrificing protein content or quality. It offers highly bioavailable proteins for optimal digestion and good amino acid absorption to help maintain muscle mass.

Why Seek Lower Phosphorous Formulas?

As kidney health declines, the kidneys may no longer filter blood efficiently, and phosphorous may enter the blood stream. This can make cats feel unwell, become lethargic or experience appetite loss. The situation can become a vicious cycle as excess phosphorous in the blood further impairs the kidneys. A diet with lower phosphorous, although it will not cure kidney issues, can help minimize these other ailments.

No Protein Sacrifice

Cats are obligate carnivores who need meat to thrive. Meat is rich in high-quality protein, which helps maintain healthy muscle mass. Although cats with kidney issues may benefit from diets with lower levels of phosphorous, they still need adequate levels of protein. Because maintaining muscle mass is crucial for cats with kidney issues, Weruva makes sure their Wx formula includes plenty of protein.

About Weruva

Weruva is a family company, wholly owned and operated by pet parents David and Stacie Forman. They originally developed Weruva, a luxurious natural pet food, for their three rescued cats: Webster, Rudi and Vanessa. After searching for the best cat food under the sun to feed them, they realized the best wasn’t good enough and developed these fantastic recipes using quality sourced ingredients.

Questions & Answers

10 Customer Questions

Is this a nutritionally balanced cat food? Do I have to supplement?
Answer by ChewyFeb 28, 2023
This food is not complete and balanced and should not be fed as the only meal to cats on an everyday basis. Consult your veterinarian about how to fit this food into your cat's diet.

Is this produced in the USA?
Answer by ChewySep 13, 2022
Weruva wet products (pouches and cans) are manufactured in Thailand in facilities that also make food for people-much of the food for people goes to the US and countries with the strictest processing standards, such as those in the European Union, Australia and Japan. Thailand is a world leader in producing foods for people around the globe, and much of the world's tuna fish supply for people comes from Thailand (Thailand is also a top chicken producer for people). As exports are the driving force behind the Thai economy, there are strict governmental regulations in place to ensure the safe handling of food for people and pets. In addition, the processing standards from both the supply and production side must meet strict international standards. The process entails quality control standards that include keeping the factory in a condition where it can pass multiple annual inspections performed by international entities and third-party auditors, each under strict scrutiny. Such inspections ensure that we abide by Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) regulations and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) systems, meeting the demands of the global market. Perhaps the strictest human processing standard is called the British Retail Consortium (BRC). A grade of "A" on the BRC standard is regularly earned.

Phosphorus in dry matter base? And in feed matter please? Is that not too low?
Answer by ChewySep 09, 2022
This formula contains approximately 0.072% phosphorus on an as-fed basis, 0.39% phosphorus on a dry matter basis, and 78 milligrams of phosphorus per 100 kcal. Please consult with your veterinarian to ensure these values are suitable for your individual pet's dietary needs.

What is the sodium content and protein content of this food on dry matter basis?
Answer by ChewySep 01, 2022
The dry matter amounts are 0.45% sodium and 61.60% protein.

Weruva low phos

My cat has developed chronic renal failure and needs a low phosphorus diet. She adamantly refuses all the prescription wet foods, but (at least so far) loves the chicken pate low phosphorus. Won’t touch the shredded chicken or other varieties. I checked in with her vet and got her blessing to feed this, dispute it being relatively high in protein and sodium. Note it is labeled as a supplement, not as a stand alone wet food, so recommend asking your vet if considering using this alone.

Looks like cats would love it

This food looks delicious out of the can - it looks like pureed chicken breasts. I bought this for my 16YO female with CRF to help reduce her phosphorus intake, She didn't like the SD KD so I tried this. She eats a few bites and then the other (healthy) cats eat what's left. But even the others aren't devouring it, so I can't give this 5 stars.

he loves it!

My 15 year old cat who is having health issues stopped eating - no matter what I put in front of him he would not eat it - after many trips to the vet - prescription foods etc I decided to try this. Well he loves it - he has now eaten 3 cans in the last 24 hours - he is feeling better and finally eating again. I am so happy - thank you for making a delicious food my sick cat loves.

NOT a complete food.

My cat likes it, but I just realized this is a supplement, not a complete meal. Please make sure you don't feed your cat only this food. It doesn't say anywhere in the title that it's a food supplement, and a cat food.

Surprised my cat eats this

As many cat guardians will tell you, cats can be very picky eaters. My cat prefers a pate texture, but does eat this even though it is not a true pate as it states on the label. Although on another part of the label, it does say it is a puree, this can be confusing. I appreciate that it is hydrating.

None of our cats will eat it

I bought this for my senior who has Stage 2 CKD. She refuses to eat it, even when I tried doing a slow transition onto it. Our 2 boys will not eat it either, so I have almost a full case of it sitting in my cat food pantry. I am going to give it to my neighbor who has senior cats and hope they will eat it.

Our cat enjoys, but is a Supplement!

Please mix with other food or as a treat, didn’t realize this until she had loose stools. All is fine though, mix it in with her specialty food, or regular food.

Wish my cat liked this

Unfortunately, my cats do not like this, even the cat that normally will eat pretty much anything doesn't like it.

Great low phosphate cat food

My 18 yr old cat was recommended to go on a low phosphate diet for early stage kidney disease. She absolutely loves this food! Unlike many other foods where she would only eat small portions, she gobbles up this chicken pate like there's no tomorrow. Her bowl is always licked clean and it has helped her gain a little weight back onto her tiny old frame. This food had been a game changer for my old kitty's overall health, highly recommended!
