Every dog plays differently and, since not all toys are created equal, it’s always best to keep a close watch on your pup in case things get ruff. Supervised play will help toys last longer and most importantly keep your pal safe. No dog toy is truly indestructible, so always remove the toy from playtime if pieces begin to break off.
Dishwasher Safe; top shelf.
As far as how long it will last I do not know yet, but I ordered the large and the opening should be a bit smaller. its too big to stuff for an activity, but need the larger for the size of dog. Daughter bought one too and it was a waste of money for us because we wanted a tough toy to stuff with treats.
I've got two of these large tux toys. I like them because they're freezer friendly, can be use with wet food, easy to clean in the dishwasher. However, my dog doesn't like to eat frozen food out of this since it's really frustrating for him. Normal wet food he'll attempt. In terms of treat dispensing toys, I feel like there are some more versatile ones on the market, but I don't regret my purchase. Not a must have, but nice to have!
This toy is great to fill with treats and let your dog have a challenge. I fill this with some treats, then I also put applesauce on top and freeze overnight. Keeps my dogs busy for a while.
I have a 62lb Pit Mix that is a very strong chewer. I was so excited to try Westpaw’s Tux toy for her. It looked so tough and durable but she chewed it apart in less than an hour. :(
I've been buying these for a few years - perfect frozen treat after a walk. My concern is that the 'made in USA' imprint on the chewing edge of this item seriously shortens the it's life. It weakens the inner wall of this chew toy. Move the 'made in USA' imprint to a different spot on this wonderful chew toy !!!
Not one to adopt quickly to new ideas, but after seeing me bounce it with my toe and producing his dental chews, Brett started packing it around and dropping it to get them out himself. Hill’s dental care t/d are just the right size nugget to not pour out but do come out with a small bounce. The round ends are the right size for a medium size dog like Brett to pick up in his mouth. Sturdy so chewing doesn’t destroy them. Bouncy enough to be entertaining.
Plus: I have 2 dogs. Once of them (pitbull mix) immediately became obsessed with this thing even without treats inside. He was going to town chewing on it. Minus: had to pull it from circulation a mere 4 days after I received it because he managed to destroy it. For reference, he will go through a black kong in 2-3 weeks so this is not at black kong level for us. It really is too bad because he loved the thing. if your dog isn't such a heavy chewer, it might be right for you.
Our dog is pretty selective about which treat dispensers are acceptable and which ones are not, usually based off of their difficulty and their capacity to hold high-value treats. This one has been met with her seal of approval. We break her dental chew into pieces and shove it in there with peanut butter and it keeps her busy for a while. For reference, our dog is a 60lb pointer who is not super aggressive with treat dispensers but isn't too gentle either. This toy has held up well thus far. It's also dishwasher safe, which is a huge perk in our household!
My pup sees this as a cup treat puzzle, so she just licks the cavity to get the treats out. She doesn't chew on the outer parts, so the chew parts are kind of useless. The cavity is smaller than the cup treat puzzle and doesn't have the fins and such, so the content isn't as challenging to get out. Takes a lot of space for little amount of treats it holds. Pup does enjoy working on it, so it's not all bad. Still, would've been better off to just get another cup threat puzzle.
Great toy! Not only can you put treats, peanut butter, etc inside of it to keep dogs active, but it has proven so far to be indestructible! Even my aggressive chewers can't damage it!
