Frequently Asked Questions

How did World's Best Cat Litter™ get its name?

Our company started back in 1996, when a group of scientists set out to create the best clumping cat litter possible. What they discovered was a revolutionary process that turned our natural ingredients into a cat litter that delivered concentrated power for a cleaner litter box—with less hassle and less litter. After several tests with consumers, we quickly realized that our litter could go by no other name, and World's Best Cat Litter™ was born!

What formulas of World's Best Cat Litter™ are available?

We have a total of five formulas that all deliver the concentrated power of corn so you can do more with less litter. The Original Series offers long-lasting litters with outstanding overall performance.

  • Clumping formula for homes with one to two cats
  • Multiple Cat Clumping formula for homes with two or more cats
  • Lavender Scented Multiple Cat Clumping formula for multiple-cat parents who enjoy their litter with a light, all-natural floral scent

Advanced Series products deliver our hallmark concentrated power, but add unique ingredient combinations that solve specific problems for cat owners who demand even more out of their litter. This series is available in the following formulas:

  • Zero Mess™ is the multiple-cat-strength litter that guarantees fast and easy cleanup with 2X better clumping and 2X more odor control, so you get less mess with less wasted litter. It's the only litter that combines the concentrated power of corn with super-absorbent plant fibers that quickly trap liquids in tight clumps, so you don't have to chisel and scrape the box. Scoop once and you're done.
  • Zero Mess™ Pine Scented delivers the fast and easy cleanup of Zero Mess™. Plus, it adds a blend of real pine ingredients for a gentle, natural scent you'll love.

What are the differences between the Original Series and Advanced Series formulas?

To satisfy the needs of all cat parents, we offer two series of litters that deliver the concentrated power that helps you do more with less. The Original Series offers long-lasting litters with outstanding overall performance. The Advanced Series delivers long-lasting litters purpose-built to solve specific problems.

Our formulas contain no synthetic additives, chemicals, clays or perfumes, and they are made from sustainably grown ingredients—not mined or drilled using heavy equipment. We use an advanced, patented process to create formulas that harness the natural absorbency of renewable ingredients. World's Best Cat Litter™ contains no artificial chemicals or silica dust, so it's pet, people and planet friendly!

How does Lavender Scented Multiple Cat Clumping formula impact people or pets that suffer from allergies or sensitivities to fragrance?

As with any new product you introduce into your home, we recommend testing the product to see how you and/or your pets react. Like all World's Best Cat Litter™ products, this formula contains only 100% natural ingredients. However, if you or your pets are sensitive to fragrances, we recommend using our Clumping or Multiple Cat Clumping formulas, which are fragrance free.

How does World's Best Cat Litter™ offer concentrated power and how does it benefit me?

World's Best Cat Litter™ uses the concentrated power of corn to help you use less litter to maintain a cleaner litter box. Our patented production process compresses corn into concentrated granules, giving our litter natural absorbency and long-lasting performance. This allows you to enjoy a cleaner litter box with less hassle and less litter.

Is World's Best Cat Litter™ flushable?

Yes! All World's Best Cat Litter™ formulas have undergone rigorous testing to confirm they are sewer and septic safe. Unlike clay-based litters, World's Best Cat Litter™ harnesses the concentrated power of corn, so you can simply scoop, flush and move on with your day!

Are there any special requirements for storing World's Best Cat Litter™?

World's Best Cat Litter™ is a natural product, so bugs may be attracted to the litter if they gain access. Seal the package or store in a sealed container in a cool, dry place. Do not place litter boxes outdoors in humid locations.

Is World's Best Cat Litter™ more expensive than other litters?

Nope! With World's Best Cat Litter™, you get more for your money because it harnesses the concentrated power of naturally absorbent corn for long-lasting performance. One small bag of World's Best Cat Litter™ lasts one cat 30+ days. How? Our patented process compresses highly absorbent corn into concentrated granules, giving you a cleaner litter box with less litter! Quick-clumping and easy-scooping performance means the rest of the litter stays dry, so you use less, throw away less—and spend less.

Is World's Best Cat Litter™ safe for kittens?

World's Best Cat Litter™ products are made from food or feed-grade ingredients and are safe for kittens over eight weeks of age. In general, veterinarians do not recommend that kittens under eight weeks old use cat litter.

How often do I need to completely change the litter in the box with World's Best Cat Litter™?

How often you need to change your cat litter depends on how many cats you have and how often they use the litter box. World's Best Cat Litter™ harnesses the concentrated power of corn for long-lasting performance, and customers report that they don't have to change the litter as often as with other cat litters.

Who makes World's Best Cat Litter™?

  • Used for a while but absolutely no more, BAD ODOR, TRACKS, EVERYWHERE!

I've been ordering this litter for two years thinking that I was doing right by my cats but I realized FINALLY that they probably can't stomach the awful odor and that the yellow particles not only TRACK everywhere but they FLY everywhere, and the yellow residual DUST leaves patches of yellow cat footprints on anything that shows color. I like the way it clumps and thought it lasted for at least four weeks (I'd fill the pans deep), but it really does not; the odor is horrible--it's so bad that I can smell it outside a closed door from far away. I am ordering Cat Attract and hope it is better. Can't wait to get rid of this stuff. Another issue is that the cats throw mounds of the World's Best outside the pan and I walk into a room with big yellow piles of it on the floor. I have multiple cats and several litter pans. World's Best is a nightmare. … more

  • Not what I had hoped for

    By on

I waited a bit before writing this review so I had a better idea of the products capabilities in my estimation. I recently rescued four kittens and have a number of cat boxes around the house for them. I clean the boxes twice daily and add more litter as necessary. I find the litter unacceptable for a couple of reasons and will need to find something else. Pros: Lightweight compared to clay litter. Cons: Clumps well, but will fall apart rather easy if you accidentally hit the clump while scooping, making the pieces too small to scoop, which adds to the odor. Odor can be horrific. Tracks everywhere. And the worst con for me, not anywhere close to 99% dust free. One of my kittens is all black. When he comes out of the cat box from digging, his legs are covered in light colored dust, which you also see all over your dark colored clothes when the kittens are picked up. Definitely not for us. I sure hope to find something better. … more

  • Anything for Charlie

Here's why I tried corn litter and will stick with it: Charlie is a sweetheart. He had asthma from scented clay litter, so I switched to pine. He liked it, the other 5 liked it, and his asthma got much better as did mine. I was getting their stuff at the store then, and one day they were out of pine and only had corn. I tried it in the "main" litter box, but all the cats used it and it reeked, so I stopped. Then I used the rest of it in a secondary box just to get rid of it. I soon realized that Charlie was using that box and no one else was. The cats with stronger urine were using the other boxes, so the corn didn't stink like before. Charlie is 14 and I love him more every day. I can't Here's why I tried corn litter and will stick with it: Charlie is a sweetheart. He had asthma from scented clay litter, so I switched to pine. I urge everyone to use natural litter (pine, corn, wheat, etc) because clay litter is so unhealthy for cats AND for us. I have 4 big litter boxes, 3 with pine and corn in one. I think the reason some love corn litter and some hate it is that some cats have stronger smelling urine. But even if it was stinky, I would keep getting it for Charlie. Even if I had to empty it every day. As long as Charlie is happy. … more

  • Salvation in the are of litter boxes

This is the ONLY litter I will use. #1 it doesn't SMELL like CAT LITTER. Those heavily scented litters are gross. It screams - there's a litter box in the room. This litter smells natural and will not hit you in the face when you walk in the room. #2. It clumps amazingly. Someone said it clumps flat and falls apart. That person obviously doesn't put very much littler in the box because I have never in the last year ever had that issue. I sift out round balls and toss them in the trash. I do not flush them, however, because I had a big bill to clear my main drain because of the nice round disposables. #3 - It lasts FOREVER. One tip, make sure you clean the box every day. twice a day is best This is the ONLY litter I will use. #1 it doesn't SMELL like CAT LITTER. Those heavily scented litters are gross. If you remove the waste, the rest of the litter really stays nice and clean with ZERO smell and you can use every bit of it to the very last. So it lasts longer than any litter I have ever tried. THIS is why I will never use another litter and I would like to keep this product in stores however I can. it was removed from a local store and I'm upset about people not knowing how great this product is!!! … more

  • i wanted to love it

i wanted to love this litter so bad, the way the litter clumps is seriously a dream to clean and my cat seems to like it......BUT the smell, when my cat uses the litter box it smells SO bad. i have never had anything smell this bad. it stinks up the entire house if you don't clean it out basically immediately after its been used. the litter smells fine and you barley notice it when they haven't used it but once they do its worse than anything i've smelled. i have had friends walk into my house and ask if i can light a candle! i have even had my boyfriend come over and he took the febreze out of the bath room to spray the house! its kind of embarrassing....

  • Love it and hate it

    By on

I was hoping to be as thrilled as some other people are, but I'm not. I love the way it clumps and I can just scoop it and flush it down the toilet; however, I know the minute my kitten goes because the smell is intolerable until I scoop it. I wasn't expecting that! The other negative thing is that I have litter-colored footprints everywhere within 10-12 feet of the litter box. Of course, you don't even see it on beige tile, but on the dark throw rugs it's a disaster. This also tells me that even though I can't see it on the tile, it's there! You wouldn't think that finding a great litter would be such an ordeal.

  • Great, long lasting, and no odor

The litter I have used since I got my cat 3 years ago is no longer available without that strong floral scent that I can't stand and neither can my cat. I don't like any of the sandy type litter and she doesn't like the Walnut shells or pellets. I thought I would give this a try and ordered it and it's Scoops amazingly it is long-lasting with no odor it's a little bit messier than my old brand but it's well worth it because we're going through less of the litter and there's no perfumey smell. I wasn't sure how quickly my cat would make the transition from the old to the new and she seems to love it as well.

  • It's True!

I've been using this litter for about 2 years based on a friend's recommendation after many years of using other alternatives like the "clumping" type made of clay and the pure "crystal" type. I've had up to 6 cats at one time (indoor/outdoor) but was down to 3 when I switched to World's Best. World's Best has overcome all the complaints I had about the other litters. I thought the clay ones were heavy to scoop and often left the bottom of the box wet for a long time even after the clumps were scooped and they "expired" quickly. Small pieces of the crystal litter would get carried out of the box in the pads of my cats' paws and scatter on the floor nearby (making an annoying "crunch" when I've been using this litter for about 2 years based on a friend's recommendation after many years of using other alternatives like the "clumping" type made of clay and the pure "crystal" type. With World's Greatest the "clumps" are now very light to remove (like sawdust) and the bottom of the box doesn't stay wet at all, it doesn't track out of the box as much (and doesn't "crunch" when it does) and the cats do a better job of burying everything. At first I wasn't sure I would be able to use World's Best because I wasn't a fan of the "earthy" scent of the litter (I've never tried the scented), but now the scent of the litter, new or used, doesn't bother me at all although I still do notice it. when I'm scooping the litter (which I do at least once a day.) And while the product is more expensive than the clay-based ones, it remains usable a lot longer with no complaints from the cats, so, for me it's a no-brainer. … more

  • Really good litter

    By on

I buy WB in the green bag. Giant selling point: The litter itself smells neutral, unlike other so-called unscented litters. (And why companies make scented litters is a mystery--If they irritate my nose, of course they repel cats. Plus, the aroma of perfume-scented poop throughout the house? No thanks.) WB also reduces the odor from kitty waste, and scooping at least once a day helps. Hey, your own toilet would smell bad if you peed in it all day and never flushed. WB clumps really well, too. Chewy continues to get my business on this product.

  • First & Probably Best Litter

    By on

It's my first time with kittens and I've only noticed a couple of flaws. It doesn't go down the toilet easily and if you're wearing black when your kitty steps out of the box... I wish you luck because it'll probably leave little foot marks. I reccomend this litter over their multiple cat litter they have simply because the odor control doesn't seem different to me. However, it does do its job on being dust free and clumping. For the price I give it an A+. It's really nice litter compared to others.
