For a kibble, this is a great product. Every 3 months I change my animals main protein- venison AND starch -free? GREAT. I don't live in an area where venison is available. Rather surprised it's not more popular by that's okay by me- and my pets. I did read all the reviews on here before purchasing, on other sites, read ingredients too naturally. I didn't experience any of the negative issues others had but slow transition (add kefir or plain yogurt, or probiotics pill form) is key in my opinion but again, I change their protein source regularly. I add homemade bone broth to this, add blended veggies & fruits, calcium source, herbs, turmeric, etc as suggested by holistic vets for my dogs. My For a kibble, this is a great product. VERY happy healthy campers! Next order I'll need to add an additional bag! Two won't make it for the month :) I highly recommend this product also- as do my 60lb mix-breed dogs & significantly small cat! … more

  • Complete profile (grain- AND starch-free)

    By on

I'm a nutritionist and extraordinarily particular about the food I eat and give my pets. Grain-free AND starch-free is what is biologically appropriate for cats and dogs. Carb content should be under 10% in your pets food and this is the only food I've found which meets this. GI upset can occur with any diet change. (Bacteria present in one's GI tract is specific to food regularly eaten.) The less diverse the diet, the less diverse the bacteria and this is what leads to upset with diet change. Pumpkin purée will help with this (**NOT the pie mix!**) Rotate flavors for better diversity in gut flora, aka digestive bacteria.

  • Incredibly low carbs, nutrient dense food

Wysong Epigen uses a radically different method for making a dry kibble without starch. Intended for rotation feeding between their Archetype freeze dried raw foods and their canned versions, this stuff is amazing! My dogs thrive on the Epigen line; they maintain hard muscled condition for very active performance training, and their coats are superior. My only concern is not having an actual calories per cup number printed on the bag; I understand these products are made in very small batches, so perhaps a listed calorie count range would be helpful for owners who need to know precisely how much food the dog needs. Epigen Venison was the first recipe tested with my older female. She seemed puzzled at first, because the small kibbles and small serving size looked lost in her bowl. No GI upsets, readily accepted, and no problems when we moved to Epigen Fish next in the rotation. Highly recommended! … more

  • Amazing formula!

I am not a fan of most 'kibble' dog food. Even the grain free kinds have TOO MUCH carbohydrates for an opportunistic carnivore like a canine. I feed raw but occasionally need something more convenient (for boarding or if my mother cares for my pets) This feed meets that need for me and I don't have to compromise too much.

  • A quaility product for both cats & dogs

I have 3 dogs, and 2 cats, all are fed a raw species appropriate diet. I do from time to time especially in the winter months supplement with a high quality, dry food. Wysong is by far the best dry food to feed, if you must feed dry. I have yet to find any dry food that comes close into comparison. I also love the fact that I can purchase the SAME food for all my crew, cats and dogs alike. I love that Wysong stands for quality and the effects of their products show in all my animals via their energy levels, their shinny coats, and most importantly their health and well being. • Very Unique!

You thought that label told you everything you needed to know about what you were feeding your pet - NOT! The HUGE amount of starch (aka. sugar) hidden in pet food should be a crime. And we can't figure out why our pets are so sick. Finally! Wysong has given us the answer. This food has actually given my poor dog a new lease on life. She's more alert with much more energy.

  • Not a fan ...

Despite mostly negative reviews I gave this food a chance... mistake. A cat that has previously had no digestive issues regularly throws up right after eating this. It also smells like your stereotypical cheap pet kibble smells like

  • This dog food did not agree with our dogs

    By on

I purchased this dog food because our previous dog food company of choice stopped manufacturing to restructure their company. My senior dog has digestive issues already and I though a grain free choice might help. I also liked the fact that this is American made. However, it caused great gastro discomfort and gave both of my dogs the "back door trots". Their stool turned completely black (the dog food is very dark) and it made my four year old dog vomit for the first time in his life. The vomit was so dark, it stained the carpet which now will have to be professionally cleaned. I now have two bags of expensive dog food that I can not use, or give away in good conscious. Only problem is my doberman refuses to touch it. He's never shown to be a picky eater.
